  1. Miggy tied Babe Ruth with that hit. I think that's why they wanted the ball, not because he broke a big oh-fer.
  2. I don't quite get this. All the statistical analysis to determine that Rogers has "bad luck." What's the difference between being bad at baseball and being unlucky? To my eyes, they both look like losing. I understand that the advanced statistics can show potential, but my eyes watched Rogers last year and recognized the potential. I just don't get taking solace in the fact that we are losing games because of "luck" rather than being bad, they both look the same in December. I'm not against advanced stats, at all. It's how I discuss the game with friends. I just find it odd that we point out all these numbers as a way to disprove what we think we are seeing. Then chalk it all up to a nebulous thing called luck.
  3. Do teams only look at stats put up in close games to decide contracts? I'm pretty sure Tatis gets paid to hit dingers. The more he hits the more he gets paid. To channel Sprewell, Tatis has got a family to feed. Just because Texas is so bad he has to lose money on his next contract? Makes no sense...
  4. Garver's eye at the plate has always impressed me. Seems like he only swings at strikes (pure eye test, I haven't looked at the numbers). This year so far he seems to take a lot of meaty strikes. The backwards K's are what concerns me, just a little bit. Seems like it might just be a major league hitter taking some time to get his eye at the plate dialed in. I have faith that he'll rake after building up a few more PAs.
  5. I don't know if all the statue toppling we see these days is the right thing to do or not. I'm ok with it and for sure some of them have to go. Griffith was pretty abhorrent but I wonder if there is a better way. Tell the story..."Here's the racist owner who moved the team to MN. Let's let this statue remind us to keep ever vigilant to let no more racists be part of this team." Make it not a statue of pride, but of precaution, a lesson learned...I don't know, maybe that's too simple and the imagery is just too charged to change the perception. I know some will feel it doesn't go far enough and maybe it doesn't, but just disapearing the statue doesn't make the issue go away, just makes it a bit easier not to think about. But just to be clear, I am against statues for racists.
  6. The two things I'll remember from this season are that minor league Buxton collision (scary) and Hughes declining the bonus (classy). The rest I choose to forget. Corey Koskie stole 20+ bases?
  7. I remember seeing Rene Tosoni playing for the St. Paul Saints years later. I recognized the name but couldn't place him. His name sounds a little French-Canadian so I thought he was a hockey player that maybe I saw in the Wild's minor leagues. I was very impressed that he made the change to baseball so effectively. Less impressed when I finally figured out why I knew the name. 2011...WOOF!
  8. That Kubel grand slam may be the most excited I've ever heard Dick...
  9. I'd watch a series about the Contraction Kids. If Brad Pitt can be in a movie about the A's, why not a series about the team who ended their streak and season?
  10. DiDi would be my recent pick. Maybe Paul Konerko from back in the day a bit. I don't really hate the man, I just seem to remember him always coming through against the Twins and being really frustrated by him.
  11. I don't think the issue is his politics, really. It's being a celebrity and Tweeting about it. It's just stupid, all it will bring is controversy and distraction. I don't really get Twitter, at all. If you want to argue with an idiot who doesn't listen, get a goldfish. His politics aside, I don't think he's that good and you know whoever signs him will be paying for that outlier year in '18, just like Dantes said. I don't think he anything special as far as the analytics go either, he just puts out more Youtube videos than other pitchers.
  12. The first name I come with it Scott Stahoviak. I remember thinking that with him and Marty Cordova we were set...not so much. Throw in Chip Hale and I'm not sure how those mid 90's teams ever lost.
  13. Everybody loves Jack but Kirby Puckett IS the Minnesota Twins. Gotta give Puck the edge and go with Game 6. Morris may have been "One of us" but only a Twin for a year...
  14. I have a question about the new rule. Can a guy be put in, get the third out in an inning then start the next inning and only face one batter? I can't imagine that situation will come up that often but what happens? Does he only have to face two batters because he ended an inning even though the end of the inning isn't when he was pulled?
  15. Does this mean we can talk about Maeda in next years "Ex-Twins in 2021" forum or not?
  16. I think I remember reading last year that Cruz would ask Sano two questions after each at bat. What was your plan and how much fun was it? Having a plan is key and I believe Cruz really impacted Sano's approach. Not so much with specific mechanics or even what the plan is (although I suspect he helped with the planning as well) but just going up there as a professional hitter, with a well thought out plan. The second part is important as well. Keep it light and loose. We all know Sano likes to hit and when he gets a hold of one it sure looks like fun to me.
  17. Toss some darts and go with it. Easiest job in MLB; filling out this lineup. Just go with whatever feels right at the time. Have fun Rocco!
  18. It sure felt like Rocco threw in the towel when he put Gibson in. I immediately thought he had given up on the game and was just trying to eat innings. Has he been watching Gibson lately? Being down three runs in game 1 of a 5 game series with this lineup, I'm not sure I get it. Didn't we have another minor league pitcher on our playoff roster that could have given up those runs?
  19. Bench him? I think that ship has sailed. Who is surprised by this? If you want to correct the lack of hustle, the bonehead plays, the showboating you're about 4-5 years too late. I've known (and I suspect most of us have) this is who Eddie is for a while now. I don't particularly like it, but I'm not shocked. Bench him in 2015 if you don't like it, but up 4 with 10 to play after he's been in the league dogging it occasionally for 4 years now, how does that help?
  20. My biggest concerns for flying the coop are Rowson, as the article mentioned and Wes Johnson. I know Johnson is a first year, straight from the college ranks coach, but he seems like a gem to me. Maybe the SSS will protect him a bit, but I could see lots of FOs being interested in him.
