    It has certainly been said in other posts. I can't even count how many DFA/phantom DL Polanco posts I've seen. Plenty of calls for Buxton to get sent down as late as June as well.

    So, Gee has already thrown almost 60 pitches. He may or may not be done. But, it is unlikely that he would be available until Monday at the earliest. So, I suspect his reward for a job well done will be an all expense paid trip to beautiful Rochester, New York. Think the Twins risk calling up a position player or will they just swap Gee with Gibson? Maybe they call up Garver and send Granite down to activate Gibson Saturday.

    I love Smalley. Just throw it low and away and he'll chase. Does he not think Mejia is trying to do that? If Mejia had that kind of command he wouldn't have the numbers he has.

    Meaning what, exactly? I really wouldn't call any season either had dominant, other than 1973 for Bert. But they certainly chewed innings. Morris was top 5 in K per 9 twice in his career. Top 5 in CG 8 times. Of course, in Blyleven's era most guys racked up CGs.

    Do you consider 5 complete games to also be a useless statistic? Without looking it up, I would guess that's the highest total in at least 10 years. That's the kind of ace I want. That's the kind of ace Jack Morris and to some extent Bert Blyleven were. They didn't always dominate lineups the way Nolan Ryan or Tom Seaver did. But they gave their team the chance to win the overwhelming majority of the time AND pitched deep into games taking pressure off the pen. That is vitally important in today's game. There is more to being an ace than racking up a lot of strikeouts.

    17 wins will probably be the 3rd or 4th highest total in mlb this year.

    I think he has the Twins record. I think he's about 50 behind Rickey's all time record.

    Really? I must have missed the World Series the Twins were in with Doug Mientkiewicz at first. You need power and run production from positions that should provide it. Getting it elsewhere also is what seperates good teams from elite teams.

    I guess that was kinda my point. Especially Puckett, who early in his career had an extreme downward swing, much like Granite. Granite has zero to gain by hitting the ball in the air. On a good day, he might hit a warning track fly ball. He truly is far better off putting the ball on the ground and hoping for the best more often than not.

    And I still maintain that keeping Berrios in the game was the best chance the Twins had to win the game. You are certainly free to disagree with that, but given the performance of the bullpen of late, I think he had a better chance of keeping the game close than anyone else the Twins could have used. As I said, even if the Twins get Grossman on and get him in they still have to send someone out to pitch. Someone who has probably been struggling of late. Because that describes everyone down there other than Hildenberger and Belisle.

    He finished the 7th with like 75 pitches. He could easily have pitched one more and two maybe if the Twins had scored. It's not so much the reward of the complete game. It's the experience of getting key outs late in a game, when one is starting to get tired.

    Kirby Puckett GIDP 27 times in 1991, which led the AL. He GIDP 17 times in 1988 and was an MVP candidate.

    No. I'm acting like Berrios is way better than anyone in the pen. Even if the Twins scored in the 8th, they had to send someone out to pitch.

    IMO leaving Berrios in would have provided a better chance to win. And I said so before the move was made.

    Yep. Taking Berrios out was definitely a brilliant decision. Grossmann struck out. Busenitz gave up 2 runs. Odds are Berrios does neither of those things.

    A lot of discussion today about the importance of developing guys over the course of the rest of the year. Pinch hitting for Berrios was a wasted opportunity to help Berrios develop. He had a shot at a complete game. Pinch hitting is a move one makes when one is trying to save one's job IMO.

    Plus, the way the pen has been lately, the Twins probably have a better chance to win if Berrios continues to pitch.

    As I said, Berrios is far from an automatic out. He's a career .500 hitter.

    Well, doing that will get him out of the game even faster.

    I'm not sure it's a given that he would be lifted. He will likely be around 80 pitches. Maybe less. Plus, he's a decent hitter.
