  1. Nothing has changed for me. IF we need a rental, fine, if not let him go. Who is the real Forsythe? He is batting .176 with 1 rbi his last nine games.
  2. I agree. This is a business and the Twins and Buxton are in a partnership of sorts. The sting of leaving him in the minors while he has earned the promotion will put a stress on the relationship with the player and the agent that will not be forgotten. On the other hand, the Twins shouldn't be expecting any discount when free agency comes, so I would understand a decision to "shut him down" for the season.
  3. Couldn't be more disappointed. With the exception of a couple of players this team doesn't look like a team bearing down to make the playoffs, they look more like a deer in headlights. I don't care who they trade, as long as it is for good value.
  4. I know they struggle with Duffy, but the Twins looked like the had been in a slumber right up until game time. Sluggish start from a team that should be feeling a sense of urgency. Seems like we'll be sellers soon, I hope management isn't waiting for these guys to show their true colors, we have already seen them. Streaky at best, but below a .500 team. We need to shake up the culture of that club house. This is on the players.
  5. An interesting read in the trib this morning. Joe Christensen's paragraph on Sano insinuates that projections of his future fortunes got to Sano. A good read. http://www.startribune.com/false-starts-to-careers-of-miguel-sano-byron-buxton-leave-twins-with-hope-concerns/488682521/
  6. It may depend how you look at it. I agree they performed well, and at every level. Yet maybe it came too easy and they didn't develop the skills and/or behaviors needed to succeed at the highest level. Another point to consider, how many centerfielders did we trade as Buxton worked his way through the minors. Some people might consider that a strong signal that he is our future, well before he has proved it.
  7. I have really enjoyed box watching with our most recent draft picks. Something I have not done in the past. These new guys sound really good, but to the writers point there is still a long way to go. I had high expectations with Buxton and Sano, certainly those will be in check with the new guys. On the other hand, it seems we have good talent but it does not play through to the big leagues often enough for my tastes. Is it part of the Twins development culture. It seemed to me that Buxton and Sano were ordained well before they got to the big leagues.
  8. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. He went from incredible to awful. Must have been pitching hurt.
  9. I am puzzled with Molitor's reticence to change or shake things up. I like watching Wilson catch, but when a guy flirts with a .100 batting average for significant stretches, it makes no sense. You have to play Garver and hope he gets better as the year goes on. That position needs to be addressed in the off season, both for depth and the future. Also, when Dozier goes cold as ice and you got hot bat's behind him (um relatively hot bats) he needs to move Dozier down in the order. Same story with pitchers. Hildenburger has been our best reliever for a long time and unfortunately Reed has lost it. It took long to promote Hildy and demote Reed. He needs to be demoted again.
  10. This team has not played smart all year. Everyone seems to take a turn, BUT, Garver is leading the pack in knuckle-headed plays. Unless he hits much closer to .300 with a little power there is no need to consider him as anything more than a backup. When you look at what we have in the pipeline at the catcher position it's embarrassing. Rortvedt is at least 3 years away and I am not sure there is anyone else to talk about. Hopefully we can pick up some talent at this position with trades. We should be looking for value and the only untouchables should be Berrios, Rosario and Buxton. Otherwise if we can make deal that improves this team for next year, do it. The sad part is I am not sure there are many options for our players to bring a talent that will help us next year.
  11. Thanks for your comments, very interesting. It hurts to think that this Sano streak won't turn around and it might not this season. Your comment about Dozier was interesting. The few times I have been unable to observe him in the dugout I have thought is has been more reserved and less of a leader than he has been in the past. Are you seeing or hearing the same thing?
  12. I think you can stick a fork in these guys. I am sure it is not the case but these guys seem heartless. Chicago plays hard, Detroit plays hard and we just don't. Kudos to the pitching staff, they have done a nice job the last several weeks. I expect the arms will tire a little, the bats will wake up a little, but, a little too late. Move Adrianza and maybe Polanco too and bring up Gordon. Maybe a little life will enter the squad as we get younger.
  13. My reason for hope and optimism was to compete for the playoffs and show we were an improved team over last year, even if it wasn't fully reflected in the W/L record. Instead, we have seen a team tighten up in clutch moments producing bad at bats, mental errors and poor pitching control. Sure, I can deal with one-off clunkers but we have really strung together a series of games that makes me think this team is not what we thought it was and is unlikely to rise out of this quagmire to compete for post season play. The positive is that the time I as planning to spend on watching the Twins, will be better utilized working on my golf game.
  14. This team looks eerily similar to the 103 loss team. I know we have more talent but they are playing the same way. BTW, the team that loss 103 had too much talent for that as well. 100+ losses is more about your mental state than it is talent. This season feels cursed.
  15. The 162 game season give managers and the FO the option to ride out slumps and delay tough decisions. But these games do matter. We played 163 games last year and have the potential for another tight race this year, so how much longer do you wait for Sano, Groosman, Morrison, Castro, Garver and others to play better? (pitching is a another discussion) I don't like what is happening so far and the corresponding moves should send messages to fledgling players sooner rather than later. There is not much help bat wise in the minors unless you reach further down to Chattanooga. Maybe giving Gordon, Austudillo, an audition while you bench Morrison, Grossman, Castro or Garver and even Sano is in order.
  16. I think the more astute baseball fans saw this as a mess right out of the gate. It's OK to criticize this move while at the time have a lot of respect for what the front office has done in a very short time. Considering how many moves the FO has had to make in a relatively short time, you can't expect them to get them all right. However, I think this situation has turned the corner from being, let's hang on to him as long as we can to see if he can get it together to the FO being slow or unwilling to admit their mistake. Kudos writer!
  17. I don't mind the call. Sure I would have liked for it to go our way but we just need to play better. We certainly can. It seems like the pitching staff has a different approach this year, which may be contributing to more walks. Maybe as the staff get's into the groove there will be less walks. Either that or we need to challenge hitters earlier in the count.
  18. Not a great night for Mollie. He seems to have some conceptions of his team that are not quite accurate right now. I am not sure why he doesn't ride LaMarre's hot bat and his bullpen use has been curious at best. On the other hand, the players seem to have some rust in the field.
  19. I am largely puzzled by the HOF criteria. I think Joe will struggle to get in because his stat line is not sexy enough. Some guys I think about who were great players and are still not in. Tim Raines career WAR~60, .294/.385/.425 OPS .810 2600 hits, 800 stolen bases... Piazza and Bagwell have 427 and 450 home runs respectively while hitting ~.300 Jeff Kent .290/.356/.500 with 2500 hits and 377 HR. ~60 WAR Fred McGriff .284/.377/.509 with ~2500 hits, 493 HR and ~56 WAR
