  1. Kepler's the type of guy who - when he gets on these hot streaks - makes you quickly forget all of his flaws. It's nice to see him coming around. Aside from Gonzalez, I think just about every Twin offensively is meeting or exceeding expectations. It's like best case scenario for just about everyone on offense. I'll take the sweep. Very interested in watching this Astros series. Sure wish the Twins could have caught a break and maybe played the 'Stros later in the summer instead of back-to-back like this. That said, this crappy weather may work in our favor (although the Twins don't seem to like playing in it much either). Jake the Astro Tamer is on the mound to start the series, looking forward to seeing if he can do it again!
  2. Gotta say I've been encouraged with Perez the last couple starts. No walks! I love that. Give up a few hits, fine....but don't give out free passes. Didn't see much of the game, just the first inning. Turned it on later to see La Tortuga get his base rap. Great to see the Twins taking care of business against teams like the O's.
  3. Nats just called up rookie infield prospect Kierboom to play every day in the IF somewhere also. Looks like the Nationals are already moving Dozier to a backup or platoon role.
  4. Tonight's game felt like a sacrifice before it even started. Adrianza, Castro, etc. To Adrianza's credit, dude got a hit off Verlander. I think at some point the Twins are going to have to start putting Astudillo in at 3B or Catcher at least 5 times per week. That means Gonzalez and Castro lose playing time. They don't deserve it. Here's hoping Sano is just practicing that swing like crazy and eating heart-healthy lettuce wraps every night. He comes back healthy, Gonzalez goes into a true backup role and gets 2-3 starts per week max. Might as well have rested Buxton, since the game was a forfeit anyway. I'm headed back to the Twin Cities next week, think I'll be able to see the Astros in person at Target Field on Monday or Tuesday!
  5. Stewart has surprised before. Didn't he pitch a great game against Houston last year, in fact? He just can't walk guys. The walks. The walks. The walks. Enough already. Twins pitchers should not be walking guys ike Tyler White or Yuli Gurriel. Goodness. Gibson, Odorizzi, Pineda and Perez...a couple of average veterans, a guy coming off a major injury, and a rebuilding project. Good grief it looks like the staff of a team like the Orioles or Royals. Gio Gonzalez is available now...what do you all think of that guy? Seriously that Houston lineup is stacked. I don't know how you can win a playoff series against them without elite pitching.
  6. I think there's some grand misconception about May, and I'm not sure where it got started. He's never been super efficient or effective for a long stretch of time. He's got a career ERA of about 5.00. There's nothing "not right" about May at this point - this is just who he is, I think. Not saying he's bad - he can strike guys out with the best of 'em and when he's on, he's very useful. But at this point if you get 1-2 outs from him, maybe get him out of the game before he inevitably blows up. That's why Parker, Hildy, and Rogers are getting the 9th innings. May was in that discussion in Spring Training but he's clearly behind those guys on the depth charts.
  7. The egg the Twins laid against Toronto seems like a million years ago right now. This team is 13-7, 1.5 games ahead in the division. 8-3 on the road 5-4 at home
  8. If the Twins keep playing well, and Buxton continues to hit .275 in the 9 hole, I see no reason to move him. I like what others have said: don't rush this guy. Don't put the spotlight on him. Let him hang out at the bottom of the lineup, see pitches, just let 'em be. As others have also said, I agree that maybe batting him ahead of Castro would be the only flip I'd make. So maybe up him to the 8 spot or something by July. But in the meantime just leave the kid alone. Now...if the Twins take a huge nosedive in the standings, Kepler goes down with an injury, now you start thinking about putting Buxton there out of necessity. But unless a need presents itself, don't touch Buxton right now. Just my opinion.
  9. Great win. Harper was going to get touched up at some point - he's not a "high leverage" guy and this is exactly why. I guess what I'm saying is, it'd bother me a lot more if we lost. Nice to have a game where the Twins could use both Mejia and Harper and get some other guys some rest - against the Astros, no less! That defensive play by Rosario/Schoop was huge. Rosie and Polanco are playing just great and this team is fun to watch right now. Let's go steal one tonight! So you're proposing something more like...this? Gotta keep those hip happenin' kids interested: http://i66.tinypic.com/eb9252.jpg
  10. Yeah I'm on board. The Cron signing looks good. Cruz signing looks great. The Schoop signing looks good. The Gonzalez signing...still up in the air but I think he'll come around. After last year's bombs, it's nice to see this year's signings have been a complete 180 and are really contributing!
  11. Woah woah woah - who whizzed in your Easter Ham, guys? Twins are 12-7. First place. Buxton's hitting. Polanco's hitting. Garver's hitting. Cruz is launching moonshots. Scoop is looking like the 2017 All-Star again. Rosario is absolutely on fire. Astudillo's hitting....did I mention BUXTON is hitting!?!?! Just imagine when Sano gets back. Where do you bat him? 5th behind Cruz? That's borderline scary. And think about when Gonzalez starts hitting. No more snow-outs, no more 30-degree games. The talent is here folks. Down year in the division. Twins could take the Central and avoid the dreaded wildcard. This team could be very, very good. Will the Twins realize that talent? That's the question. But this is the most dangerous Twins team I've seen in a long time. They just have to execute.
  12. Can't wait to see the Twins do more of this to the Tigers, White Sox, and Royals as the season progresses. The Indians are going to feast off those guys too though - which is why winning series like these against non-division opponents is going to be a difference maker.
  13. Bad job of two out hitting with runners in scoring position, advancing runners, doing the little things. This team looks like it could be great, but they will have to start playing smarter. The talent is there.
  14. I'd keep Cave and send Astudillo to the minors. If La Tortuga doesn't break out of his shell (0 for his last 13) soon, he's on the fast track to Rochester when Sano returns and I'm fine with it. A-Stud has options left and it's realistically the smart and logical move. Call him back up in case of injury or IL stint for any of the regulars. Easy. I think people are way too quick to assume that Sano is a terrible fielder. Not sure if that's just because he's big, or because he's easy to criticize, or both. But it's simply not true. He's not Brooks Robinson, and he may even be a bit below average, but his defense isn't something that should keep him out of the lineup. He's a great athlete and I think he'll improve with more playing time there. The Twins are going to need to score 8 runs per game if they want to win games when Berrios isn't on the mound. Sano should be given every opportunity to get into the lineup full time. With Sano, this lineup could prove to be one of the most dominant in MLB.
  15. Yeah this is a pretty good comment. Good observation about executing in the 9th offensively. And you're right, the Twins do have a little junk yard dog in them.
  16. The Twins have played the fewest games in baseball to this point. Maybe it's time for Rocco just to play his "A" lineup for the foreseeable future? Sitting Cron, Cruz, and Scoop in the same game seems a bit conservative at this point. Still kinda miffed about Kepler swinging at that first pitch, grounding into a DP with Buxton on 1st....Polanco goes yard the next at bat...a 3-run HR turns into a solo shot. Eeef. Not blaming A-Stud for anything, but it looks like he's the odd man out (injuries withstanding) when Sano comes back. Odorizzi on the hill tonight. Yikes. Here's hoping he gets his mojo back and repeats that early season masterpiece against Cleveland.
  17. Trevor May's stats returning to his career average of a 5.14 ERA pitcher. Not sure we should be surprised to see him, a career minor leaguer in Harper and Hildy blowing this one. Gibby didn't help much either. Offense needs to start scoring 7-8 runs for this team to have a chance if Berrios isn't on the hill.
  18. Anything less than a 0.00 ERA from this bullpen is unacceptable! Okay, that was sarcasm....seriously, would you prefer the Twins' starters just give up the runs instead? Losses happen. Mejia didn't look good, end of story. Maybe we should start looking at the Twins' bats? The most recent issue is that they seem to only score in one inning per game. Putting up crooked numbers are great, but if you take away a few big innings from the offense they'd be virtually scoreless in the past week. Would like to see the offense start adding a run here and there and not just rely on 3-run HRs for all of their offense.
  19. Missed the game as I was watching the Game of Thrones episode recorded last night....but reading the summary, it appers the walkers from beyond the north wall got to the Twins bullpen? Twins haven't had too many games where everything is working. In both wins and losses there have been some poor performances (starters, bullpen, or offense). The good news: if it all comes together, this team can be really good. Is the shine coming off Astudillo a bit? 0 for his last 10 or something? His last hit was against de Grom if I recall correctly.
  20. Yeah I watched the video above. It looks like dudes were hitting shallow pop-ups that were ending up as HRs. Looks like it was just one of those weird weather days.
  21. The ugly moment sticks with me: Twins load the bases on 3 walks - nobody out - and you had to think the game was going to be blown wide open at that point....to get nothing was a real gut punch. Those harsh moments are always softened by wins. Great day from Pineda, the 'pen, and once again Rosario coming up with the game-winning hit (how many of those does he have already?) Cruz needs a few games to get his swing back, just keep rolling him up there. The way Gonzalez is playing, he's going to start taking a back seat to Astudillo at 3rd sooner rather than later. Interesting video on the non-swinging strikes, Tom...dude needs to get a bit more aggressive it seems.
  22. I have some good memories there too! Went to Game 1 and Game 7 of the 1991 World Series in the Metrodome. Went to the Final Four there as well. Also went to the first ever T'Wolves victory (vs. Philly or Golden State, if memory serves) at the dome. Waited for Frank Viola outside after a game and got an autograph. I lived in town so I'd actually bike down to the dome for day games in the summer, lock it up near Hubert's, and bike back home with my buddies after the game! It was a different era.... All that said I'm glad the dome is gone. I'll take Target Field in a heartbeat, rainouts, snow-outs, and all. It's a far superior experience for fans, players, and I think it's a plus for signing free agents.
  23. The NBA is so incredibly awful these days, it's worse than Disney on Ice. It's the new Chuck E Cheese:a place to host your 10 year old's birthday party. It's not for adults and that's by design. They've gone all in on the entertainment angle and it's just ruined the league for true sports fans IMO.
  24. Tomorrow's game PPD already it appears. Looks like we'll have to wait until Saturday to redeem ourselves.
