Report from the Fort: Excitement Leads the Way on Day 1
jrod23 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
God bless ya Bonnes. This is EXACTLY what I needed to read tonight. I've only been once to Fort Myers, but I love the joys baseball in the spring brings. I wear a different jersey every day at school this week to celebrate the start of the best season in America. My students are champs and embrace every bit of it with me. They're excited to listen to the first game over lunch in my classroom. Enjoy yourself John. -
One Position May Hold the Key to the Twins Offense
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There is nothing I want more than to see Kirilloff take off. He's been through so much with his wrist. He's so potent at the plate when healthy. A lingering wrist issue is NOT comfortable when you swing bats for a living. I pray this surgery did the trick. Someone posted we wouldn't have traded Arraez if we'd know Kirilloff wouldn't be ready. I would LOVE for this to be true. I'd love to see Alex just demolish baseballs as he did in the minors. However, even Alex, himself, has said recently that he's still experiencing discomfort in the wrist. I pray that it's part of the recovery process. I've followed this kid since draft day and have been waiting for him to let the world know what he's capable off. Now, say he's not able... For all those talking Gallo to 1B? Really?!?! He hits dingers, walks, and plays Gold Glove defense in the outfield. Really going to take a GG outfielder and stick him at first? 3/4 his paycheck is for his defense. Miranda is best suited by far. Kepler even. With Farmer and Gordon as utility and bench (no specific order), we shouldn't have to see Gallo at 1B at all. All this is mute as long as Kirilloff gets back to form. Please do Alex. Please.- 49 replies

Who Would You Have on your AL Central All-Star Team?
jrod23 replied to Hunter McCall's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Oscar Gonzalez is another guy with very little prospect love, but translated well to the bigs. He deserves an honorable mention.- 29 replies

Are Twins' Third Base Plans for Jose Miranda a Misstep?
jrod23 replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As mentioned, we're at that point of the off-season. We're all ready to just engage in the game. Miranda will make all the plays he needs to and having Correa next to him will only help (both on the field, for the learning curve, and mindfully as well). He will learn and he will prove whether he's worthy of holding the position or moving off when others show up. Let the kid play. -

Twins Make Boring, Necessary Trade for Michael A. Taylor
jrod23 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nothing but Rain Drops bobbleheads volume 2. Really though, I'm excited to see the next couple moves. Still not over losing Arraez, but excited at the moves. This is so much more exciting than the Terry Ryan model.- 38 replies

Assessing the Luis Arraez for Pablo López Trade
jrod23 replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd have preferred Kep and two of our prospects for Lopez, than Arraez for Lopez and two of their prospects. -
“Robo Umps” Coming to all AAA Ballparks in 2023
jrod23 replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Sorry I can't remember the exact interview. I listen to too many podcasts. However, there was an interview of an AFL ball player, may have been Royce Lewis even, and further more, could've been a Seth Stoh's interview. They were speaking honestly about the strike zone of robo umps. It wasn't all to positive. They recalled the pitches where they "KNEW" it wasn't a strike that were called strikes. Then there was the delay. Batters thinking there was a walk isn't anything new, but waiting for the actual call was an inconvenience. Hopefully they fixed the delay. -
Still blows my mind we blew $4,000,000 on Wander Javier back in 2015 as Juan Soto signs for $1.5, Andres Gimenez signs for $1.2, and Fernando Tatis Jr. signs for $700,000...$700,000 {escalating George Castanza voice}!!!

Lewis and Lee are definitely the future of the Minnesota Twins. Lewis has really taken an unfortunate path to the majors, and I tip my hat to how he's handled every bit of it. Two ACL's by the time he's 24 is not something you're able to advertise to sell at market, but it is something one person can rise and overcome and beat the odds. I'm in favor of the latter. This kid can lead and I'm beyond excited to see the locker room chemistry when Royce has a corner locker. Lee is the player you see with momentum and you can't help but root as a player. He's got the pedigree, ability, maturity, and aggressiveness. Lee and Royce are only going to compliment each other. In a humble fan's opinion, it doesn't matter who gets there first. I just want to see them play together.

Minnesota Twins Sign Joey Gallo
jrod23 replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wow. I know I'm not on payroll to make decisions for the Minnesota Twins, but wow. This is...wow. His OBP, dingers, and GG's, but hard pass 10 times out of 10. We finally are rid of Sano. I guess one year of Gallo trying to prove his worth is okay? But is it? I'll gladly eat crow on this. But wow. Not a signing I was expecting. Nor wanting. -
I agree on pretty much all, except I think we could've pushed harder for Bassitt. Not a huge strikeout arm, but very capable top-mid rotation guy. However, Rodon, Gray, Mahle, Maeda, and Ryan sounds freakin' fantastic and freakin' doable.

Twins May Benefit From a Change in Spending Strategy
jrod23 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What free agent pitcher, with interest from anyone else, would want to come to Minnesota with Rocco in the helm? "You're doing great. You're hitting your spots. Pitching to the scouting report to a T. You're straight rolling...but you're 5 1/3 innings in and numbers show on cloudy evenings when you're in the midwest and there's a chance of rain, you have a tendency to throw 84% of your pitches up in the zone and give up 24% more dingers. Shower up."- 26 replies

I am excited about this. The #5 pick is phenomenal. However in a draft where 620 kids are drafted, it definitely doesn't hold the same value as an NBA lottery. But like I said, I'm excited. If we had NBA value to these picks, could you imagine the top end pitcher we could get for that pick though? ...But seriously, I am excited. However, even flipping this for a kid like Andrew Painter. I'd be all on board.

The Twins New Shortstop for 2023?
jrod23 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Correa didn't blow my socks off this season. The Twins did when they signed him, but that's about it. He was behind Miranda in RBI, but with 80 more at bats that Jose. He was also 2nd in dingers. A whole 22. His average was pretty solid, but he just didn't wow anyone. We kept waiting for that outburst. Sucked when it came at the end of the season, a mini one at that, when everyone else wasn't producing at the plate and we saw the division slip off into Cleveland. He wants to cash in while he's under 30. Good luck to him. I really did appreciate him though until he had that atrocious comment of going into the mall and going to Dior, etc. That made him sound terrible. I'm not excited about SS this year until, praying he's healthy and can still do his thing, Royce comes back. Brooks Lee sounds like a 3B from what I hear, although I still don't get that. Wander Javier has a 0.5% chance of helping us in an impactful way at SS. Julien sounds like 2B. Nick Gordon? I'm on board with that. Let him sink or swim. He sinks, he goes back to super utility. He swims, then we let the little squirt fly solo for a season at SS while Royce refurbishes.- 42 replies

Review the Debuts: Twins Rookie Position Players
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Royce Lewis - Everything about him screams team leader. Please let that ACL heal properly and keep him at SS. He'll slump at the plate, but will bounce back. Matt Wallner is everything we wanted Brent Rooker to be, but with a stronger arm. I agree with trading Kepler and just letting Wallner ride. He's good. Not fan friendly at all, but still a solid ball player. Jose Miranda - I wrote him off prior to the pandemic. A flyer of a minor leaguer after his first few years. Then I don't know who got a hold of him or what he got a hold of, but cheese and rice did he develop into something special. I remember sitting in our seats in St. Paul watching him make his AAA debut on his birthday. Wow. Bless him. He's everything you could've ever hoped for and more. Brooks Lee - Why can't he be the next Alex Bregman without the scandal? Truly. He's bombarded the pitchers at every level. He will fail at some point, but we have to let him learn. He's special. Lee and Lewis on the left side of the diamond? Sign me up.- 35 replies

4 Fun Facts About New Twins Outfielder Billy Hamilton
jrod23 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I just can't stand how a stolen base is looked at so minimally. Definitely reflects the game. You don't want to work too hard for your bases once you're on because we're either going to score on a double or a dinger. In the past 5-6 seasons, the only teams that are consistently in the top 5 each year for stolen bases are Kansas City, Miami, and Texas (in no particular order). Not really playoff pushers. -
It's not what I want to point out, and they're too different people, but Kopech is making the transition this year. Had a fantastic year as a fireballer out of the pen last year. Huge strikeout numbers, 4/1 walk to K ratio, but really wanted to be a starter yet. His fastball took a big hit, his K numbers went from 100 in 70 innings to 98 in 110 innings, and his injury history is much different. Big difference is their secondary pitchers. Fast to slider for Kopech and fastball to curveball/splitter for Duran. I am big on allowing starters to prove they're starters until they can't, but man Duran is special out of the pen. Truly special.

We've developed Josh Winder, Bailey Ober, and Randy Dobnak. Those are the pitchers who have even come close to staying on as major league starting pitchers. Ober and Dobnak were completely off the radar for those who don't follow the minors. Dobnak definitely looks to be bullpen, say he even comes back to help at all. Varland is seemingly close to defying the Falvine odds of a minor league starter making a big league rotation. I know they only took over in late 2016, but developing starting pitching, thus far, hasn't been Falvine's forte. However, Developing a Major League bullpen? My hat's off. It's their blessing and curse. In my amateur mind, they're giving up on top of the rotation talent far too early, to a point where they barely get to sniff out a chance after getting all the way to AAA as a starter. Then, they must see something they don't like, but love in the short innings. So they chuck them in the pen and they do great. Long story short, LOVE Duran, but for the love of PETE, please develop us a TOP OF THE ROTATION STARTER!!!

Who is the Twins 2022 Rookie of the Year?
jrod23 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love this fodder. We can't lose with either Duran or Miranda for team ROY. I could care less about the AL ROY. We all know it'll be Adley, Witt Jr., or Rodriguez. They can have it. I'm beyond excited we have all three of these guys (Ryan is a straight up gift from Tampa). We NEED to take a page out of Atlanta's playbook and start signing these guys to some deals. We tried with Polanco and Kepler and it's going well, but look at Atlanta's payroll. They develop and sign. It also shows the loyalty that is so overlooked in professional sports now days.- 32 replies
