  1. I can't get enough of Kernels baseball. One of my favorite places to take in a game. Just too bad it's a 5 hour drive and I have to see most of them on MiLB. Those tenderloin sandwiches drenched in sauce with a smooth craft, and the sound of baseball...you just can't beat it. Regardless, It's great to see Palacios find his groove again. Palacios, Kranson, and Whitefield have been fantastic. Curious how fast Whitefield is. Blank needs to get that swing back, which I'm sure he will with that discipline. Sean Poppen and Tyler Wells have shown great strides. Wells still needs to find a pair of pants that fit him. Who's going to be the first to move up in the system? Palacios to Fort Myers to help fill the void left by Arraez or Gordon to Rochester where there really isn't much of a SS.
  2. Watching the game, I felt like someone needed to tell Wells his pants are 3 sizes too small, but hey, he was rolling. And it's hard to find a good pair of baseball pants at 6'8". Regardless, the dude was zoned in. Marcus Wilson hurt him, but Wilson is also leading the Midwest League hitting at a .392 clip. Tough to watch that outing slip away.......much like Santana's yesterday. How 'bout that Polacio's though. I harped him a little after last season, but he's right behind Wilson in the Midwest in hitting. HR away from the cycle.
  3. I was big on A.J. Murray last year even though he struggled some after being called to Fort Myers. What is he on the DL for? I agree with: Besides that I'm expecting big things from Wells & Arraez. This is a group of scrappy gamers, which is Dougy Baseball's kind of guys.
  4. Definitely made Chattanooga a stop on our annual minor league road trip two years ago when they had Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Polanco, Berrios, (Adam) Walker, Harrison, etc. Well worth it and they were extremely hospitable (shot out to Rich Mozingo). This lineup's potential is quite similar, however, the '15 lineup was more stacked in batting prowess. This year's Lookout roster is going to keep people off the bases. Downside is Burdi, Jay, Stewart, Melotakis, Gonsalves now, and Romero have all been on the DL doing some hard time. Keep those arms healthy, and we'll see some results. Will we EVER see the days again where pitchers would hurl 9 innings and then do it again 3-4 days later, and repeat that for an entire season, and repeat all that for an entire career? This is a successful group, mixed with a good chunk of talent from the Kernels that went to the finals in the Midwest League 2 years ago. Add Wade's bat, and you've got a reliable lineup. Not overly prospect studded, but above average.
  5. I'll echo. Great report and keep them coming. I love Buxton and that glove, but I visibly cringe every time I see a gapper because you know he zones in on that ball and blocks out EVERYTHING else like a lab after a tennis ball. And much like a lab, if Buxton ever runs into anything he gets right back up and wants another. Can you imagine how good of a shortstop he would've made?
  6. Genius on the Twins part. Because they KNOW after each game is said and done, I'm likely to spend, on average, $15 for parking, $18-$27 for 2-3 Surly's, $12 for Red Cow's Poutine, and $1 for a program to take book...minimum. The squad is in statistical disarray to the outsider. They'd smirk. I assume anyone who reads or comments here has no problem watching any and every game they can regardless of situation. So to me, just show me where to sign. This does bring me back to the days at the dome where you could sit front row of the bullpen and BS with Latroy, Eddie, or Travis Miller and drop that $10 Tom was talking about.
  7. That clears up a lot and makes sense. Didn't think of it as a 2nd headquarters. I'll be curious to see what Jake can do with his boys he had in Cedar Rapids in '15 when they made the Midwest League Finals.
  8. Following the minors has become a new passion over the last 5 years. I wasn't terribly surprised to see Sam Clay hit the pen. Perhaps that'll allow him to go further. I'd love to see an article predicting rosters for each minor league squad. One thing still bothers me though, and I'm sure you addressed it. I'm still wrapping my brain around the Mauer to Chattanooga and Dougy Baseball to Ft. Myers. How'd Dougy take that?
  9. I agree with the Gibson comment a great deal. However, we give him some help and plate some runs, his numbers would probably get to average, and above average on a good year. Sucks because he's one of our most reliable guys on the hill, and he's not very reliable. I'm in the camp that Polanco can hold down short. I'm not a huge numbers guy, and I understand Escobar's fielding percentage at short in about 1,800 more innings is .020 points higher than Jorge's, which is actually quite a bit. Maybe I'm just getting sick of the Minnesota Twins' SS issues. I love Dozier, but let's trade him, get a solid couple of prospects, put Jorge at 2B, fast-forward time and get Nick Gordon up here batting .317 with a .998 fielding percentage.
  10. Can't believe I didn't see that earlier. Fantastic comparison.
  11. Well placed. I'd say Rortvedt could be too high. He's an unproven high school draftee. I think it's safe to assume you went on potential there. Catchers are a different breed. If it were up to me, unless a catcher was hitting well over .300 and throwing out guys at an alarming rate prior to AA, they shouldn't be worth a mention on any top 20 list. Not to take away from the kid, but nothing is proven and catchers prospect levels come and go like the wind in the minors. Garver's the only one on MiLB's Organizational All-Star list that's shown up multiple times since 2010. I really hope he sticks. I'd love to see A.J. Murray make an impact in high-A, maybe AA this summer. My favorite is LaMonte Wade on this list. He's 20th, and I agree with you. You know what you're getting with this guy. He's a student of the game. Not flashy, but extremely reliable. I love the prospect and tools of young high school & international guys, but you can't deny the hard work and results of a 3-4 year college player.
  12. One more thing. We have a plethora of bullpen arms in the minors. A wise man once said, a bullpen guy is a guy who couldn't cut it as a starter. After consistently drafting strong bullpen arms since '12 we're on the verge of seeing some these guys arrive. We have Nick Burdi, Jake Reed, Mason Melotakis, J.T. Chargois, Trevor Hildenberger, Todd Van Steensel, Michael Cederoth, Michael Theofanopoulos, and an outside shot with Cam Booser. The bullpen is all they've known. Burdi & Chargois are on the list, and you could make an argument over some of the others. How will this new wave of bullpen specialists actually pan out? At the ceiling, with all the heat thrown, we have a bullpen stacked with young possible closers in Burdi, Chargois, Reed, Hildenberger, and Cederoth. Floor? We have erratic fireballers who could sink a ship. Being the rube I am, I think it'll be closer to the ceiling.
  13. Love the fact you gave Arraez, Hildenberger, and Wells some love. All three of those guys were borderline dominant in their respective leagues. Dominant is a strong word, but look at their numbers. I thought Arraez was worthy of a top twenty to be honest. He's a hitting machine. He takes defense for granted at times, but you can't deny that bat. Not too keen on Palacios out of all of them. He had a good Appy season in '15, but struggled to keep up in A ball. I like Jaylin Davis and think he'll will be a mix between an Adam Brett Walker and a Zach Granite. Don't forget about Zander Wiel. He closed out the '16 season on a tear and led the Midwest League in RBI...ahead of Eloy Jimenez.
  14. As sick as I am of hearing it, patience is key. We can move players up throughout the farm system as seen fit as long as they're having successes. However, for some reason or another, our farm grown studs aren't translating to the pros as quickly as the Alex Bregmans and Kris Bryants of the world. In comparison to the NFL, it's like drafting a quarterback and wanting results immediately in our day and age of absolutely zero patience. I believe our studs will be studs, but we have to let them mature and grow within the pro game. So as tough as they are to watch at times, you have to keep telling yourself to be patient. No way around it. It took KC a solid four years to get their present class up and running. So long story longer, being a true Minnesota fan, I don't expect dominance or immediate impacts from these prospects. Buxton & Berrios made me quickly forget Francisco Liriano's dominance as a young pro, and brought me back to realizing the rarity of immediate impact players. That being said, I LOVE the Romero & Gonsalves 1-2 punch. Where's any love for Luis Arreaz on this overall list but he way? Twins for President in 2022!!!
