Article: Twins Daily 2018 Top Prospects: #8 Blayne Enlow
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I LOVE the potential in all three, but crap shoot, coin flip it is all about the same. I really hope I am wrong and all three are starters in MN for years, but I am just being realistic. -
Article: Trade Target: Collin McHugh (McWho?)
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well if you don't make the post season you have Zero chance of winning. But if you mean you go for it and injuries happen or some terrible luck happens, then I am with you. IMO the current state of the Twins is not capable of making the playoffs let alone winning it. Unless of course they are no major injuries or they have incredible luck. Which are two things I don't bet on. I believe the best chance for the Twins competing the next two years and maybe three years has nothing to do with our prospects in A ball. Those prospects can be turned into things to help us (Twins) win for the next few years and if we get the right players and we still don't win, they should be players we can turn around and trade for A balls players in a year one or three. Imagine we trade for Archer and he is really, really good but the rest of the team isn't, We should be able to turn around and trade him at the deadline either of the next two years for more than we gave up to get him.- 64 replies

Really, really like his potential, what worries me is 8,9,10 are complete crap shots. and you might say the same all the way though 13? -
Article: Trade Target: Collin McHugh (McWho?)
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I tend to agree, but maybe the prospects wouldn't be the ones we are thinking. What if it is Stewart and Pearson or similar? That wouldn't affect our core prospects and we could still sign Cobb?- 64 replies

Love the potential and upside of Baddoo and Graterol, what I don't like is they are a few years away from the majors and prospects like are 50/50 at best at making it and way less at being really good. On a positive note - Sign Davish and in the two or three years it take Grateol and Thorpe to make "Big Time" along with Berrios we could have the best pitching staff in the Central and maybe the American league, and this will happen prior to Buxton and Sano becoming free agents.

Article: No Such Thing as Too Much Pitching, Right?
Tomj14 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I also agree, if we sign FA(s) and our prospects are awesome, they will find their way on the Twins. If we don't sign FA(s) and we push the prospects and they don't succeed we are burning options and running AAA pitchers our their every 2 to 3 days and wasting a season and making fans mad. If we sign one or a combo of 1 of the 4 top free agents and they fail, most fans will be mad at the player but accept the team was trying to win. If the plan ends up being Gibson #2 and lets see what Hughes, May and Duffey can do and hopefully a rookie steps up. Well that is GROSS!- 60 replies

2018 free agents starting pitchers, Clayton Kershaw, David Price, Matt Harvey, Gio Gonzalez, Patrick Corbin, Drew Pomeranz, Garrett Richards, Drew Smyly, Brandon McCarthy from here https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/08/21/mlb-2018-free-agent-class-bryce-harper-manny-machado/585368001/ Kershaw is 31 and I don't see us getting him, Price is 34. I don't like that list any better than the ones available now. Trading seems to be the only way to get a top rotation guy, unless by magic one of our minor league pitchers does it in less than 1 year.

Article: Do The Twins Need To Add a Right-Handed Bat?
Tomj14 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Todd Frazier is my guy, really OBP, and plays third. Which we may need. I am done with Vargas, IMO the more he plays the more he gets exposed. Don't have proof or numbers just feels that way.- 81 replies

Article: Dollars Make Sense For 2018 Twins
Tomj14 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wouldn't sign all three, I would try and trade for a pitcher first and if then Darvish would be my second option. but I would ask the question if you took four pitching prospect from any team ever, has all four or even three ever ended up being top end rotation pitchers? How about even two of them if they weren't considered top 50 prospects in all of baseball. That isn't negative that is looking at history.- 37 replies

Article: Dollars Make Sense For 2018 Twins
Tomj14 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So we don't sign any pitchers, get rid of Gibson and Hughes and we are on the cusp of contending? What is everybody's love affair with May? he is 28 and has a grand total of 25 which weren't good. In 2015 he was decent out of the pen; 2016 was a disaster and Ryan Pressly looks like a star compared to him? I am hoping he comes back from injury and helps the Twins, but IMO that is a BIG if. Gibson is the definition of a number 5, great starts, good starts, bad starts and horrible starts, but always ends up averaging close to 6 innings per start. Do I wish we had 5 better starters than that? absolutely but right now he fits that role well.- 37 replies

Article: Dollars Make Sense For 2018 Twins
Tomj14 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
100% agree, because if Gonzo ends up just a 4/5, Romero ends up in the pen. Jorge ends up AAAA, Thorpe isn't quite ready and Little fails, we are stuck waiting for the next round of pitching while our fielders get expensive and people are yelling for us to trade for more prospects. and the cycle continues.- 37 replies

My first would be to trade for a pitcher. Second would be Cobb is you could get him for 4/60 (which I don't think you can) Third Davish If Cobb and Lynn are a combo I would pass. Getting both tells me the Front Office doesn't really see Gonzo or Romero helping this year.

I think this works for the majors, but you also have to look at which players moved on and which players moved into the league. I was completely for drafting Gordon and have been on his bandwagon the last few years, but some of his shine has went away for me. He is 22 and looking at repeating AA (it seems to me most super studs have seen the majors by 22, I could be wrong on that) and we still are not sure of his position. So I have no issue with him falling a bit in the Twins prospect list, but that is also why I am fine with trading him for pitching.

Article: Projecting The 2021 Twins Line-Up
Tomj14 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope Garver is good enough to be a starting catcher, but at this stage in his career Gimenez has on the surface better numbers than Garver and never became a starting catcher. With this lineup either are pitching prospects worked out or we signed big time pitcher free agents, because we still have all of our top prospects.- 33 replies

Article: The Top 20 Minnesota Twins Assets: Part 4 (1-5)
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That fair and I am not trying argue, so based on that where does Pressly fit? His is a bit older and we have him for a year less I think, but it seems he has proven more than either of those two? I wonder if the Twins could only keep Duffey for Busentiz who would they take? I respect your opinion but when I think assets I think if would I rather have player A this year and going forward than Player B. Example I would take Littell and Thorpe going forward over Duffey, which IMO means they are better assets. Again love reading your stuff.- 55 replies

Article: The Top 20 Minnesota Twins Assets: Part 4 (1-5)
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They would lose a guy that gets OBP, plays great defense, sees a lot of pitchers, and a really good utility guy (by playing Escobar full time). You would be moving Sano for the third time in 3 years. You would gain quite a bit as well no denying that; maybe not directly on the field but for sure roster and salary flexibility. You lose Duffey or May and you lose a guy that didn't pitch last year and is no more than a hope this year and the 4th right hander out of the bullpen. Doesn't May have a history with back issues?- 55 replies

Article: The Top 20 Minnesota Twins Assets: Part 4 (1-5)
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand this is subjective, but if you go off of those two things than Mauer is a huge asset, others have posted his AVG, OBP and defense (tied for 4th in WAR in the American league first basemen based on ESPN). Plus 23 million will be coming off the books next year. IMO two league average at best relief pitchers (hope I am wrong) with little to no trade value isn't a key to ongoing success for the Twins. Rooker, Thorpe and Baddoo are more important to the Twins ongoing success, either as a trade chip or contributor to the team Not trying to disrespect Nick this was a great article and hard to do- 55 replies

I think the answer is yes, Rogers, Hildenberger and Busenitz proved that and possibly a few more. Also I was thinking this list was about trade value, IMO we could get more in return for a half dozen of our prospects not listed than May and Duffey.- 55 replies

I don't want three years of Santana and RP in exchange for 1 year of Mauer, but your second option I really like. Honest question what has May and Duffey done that makes them difficult to replace? They both seem exactly like players that are fairly easy to replace? To me a few of our prospects would bring a bigger return than them.- 55 replies

IMO Lewis value is based on the unknown and for teams looking a few years out. Would the Dodgers or Yanks give us want, probably not, would Florida and Tampa? We could probably get anybody on their major league roster for him (with exceptions)- 55 replies

Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My thoughts on Joe's value is that right now it is very limited, to trade him and get anything the twins would have to eat most of his salary, otherwise it would be a salary dump for low level prospect or maybe somebody coming off injury. But if the Twins are out of it around the deadline and Joe is playing like last year he would have a ton a value for a contending team. IMO- 55 replies
