  1. You may want to check the numbers again - they are virtually identical with the bat.
  2. And those pitchers are who, exactly? The only name I've seen them even kick the tires on was Colome and there are multiple holes to fill - most of them guys that contributed a lot to the success of that bullpen last year.
  3. Bradley was a name I definitely hoped they'd look at, especially given the apparent need. I suspect this weekend we'll see the same article with the names changed to Hand and Kluber. Then Rosenthal, Colome and the rest. Then it will be followed up by "Twins Look for Diamonds in the Rough to Fill Bullpen." When do we get the OK to stop waiting patiently to be wowed, or even "meh'd" by the front office?
  4. They better have interest in more than those three players. Those are the kind of signings that a team standing at the doorstep of a title make. That's not what this team is. At least not yet.
  5. I'd say it's still incomplete until we see what exactly Smeltzer can become. If, however, he ends up a AAAA guy riding the Green Line back and forth until he's cut loose, then it's a push. If getting Raley back was the piece that helped land Maeda, then it's very slight advantage Twins. But if they'd really dug their heels in and said "we're not adding him," I highly doubt the Dodgers would've nixed the deal. He was a sweetener to make it look like a bigger return for a recognizable veteran - just like he was to the Twins.
  6. Sign me up for Bradley. Him with Hand and Rosenthal or Hendriks would be a nice haul since I doubt Bauer will be calling Minneapolis home next summer.
  7. A free agent is a free agent, regardless of how they got there. I'd be absolutely thrilled if Bradley was one of the bullpen pieces they brought in for this year.
  8. If they're looking to the trade market, I'd like to see them go after Musgrove.
  9. Can he though? It's more like occupying space around those places and hoping for the best. Honestly, if he has to put a glove on - fielding or batting - this series has gone horribly wrong.
  10. Sometimes you just need a weak, 2-out sac fly to right to get your offense off of the field. Who better than the Tortuga to softly fly out?
  11. I enjoyed Bert more as a pitcher than broadcaster, but as they've trotted out these potential successors I've grown to appreciate him more. I find Morris to be genuinely unlikeable (and he tells stories that simply didn't happen). I know some people really like Smalley, but I'm not one of those people. Not much personality and I rarely find him bringing much to the broadcast. I like Morneau and he's got some really good insights, but he is the human equivalent of celery most of the time. Just a little more personality would be nice.
  12. Marte was the guy I had in mind if they were to look outside the organization.
  13. About the only two guys I would've like to see them bring in were Bradley and Bundy. Bradley would've obviously have helped further fortify the back end of the pen. Bundy could help the rotation and possibly the front end of the pen by shifting someone out of the rotation. Now, if Buxton isn't coming back soon, a RH outfielder would have been nice - even if it meant shifting Max over to center. Although they could probably accomplish the same thing by calling up Rooker. Having said all of that, even before the 5-game skid I wasn't all that impressed with this team. Perhaps this isn't a team you go all in with. Maybe you keep it as is, hope guys get healthy and prove that the first half of this year was the anomaly rather than last year.
  14. It does look a little light, but if you look at the 2019 stats for Cantillo, Miller and Arias, it looks a whole lot better for Cleveland. They're all at least trending in the right way. The other three appear to be roster filler at this point, but Quantrill - at least on the surface - has been good in the pen this year and Naylor is still young enough that he could turn into a serviceable bench piece. Hedges probably is what he is at this point.
  15. Hoping these "predictions" are more "hey, look at me" than things that have actual steam: https://www.mlb.com/news/2020-trade-deadline-predictions
  16. Reasons I don't see the Angels trading him any time soon: - He's not a free agent until '22 - They just gave up four minor leaguers for him - Mike Trout - Anthony Rendon - Ohtani's arm - Lack of pitching depth in the majors - Lack of pitching depth in the upper minors So I guess if the Twins, or any team, were ready to give up high-end prospects that will be ready to go as soon as next year, they might but they're not in a position that they have to.
  17. I would think the most likely would be Rooker if they find a need for some right-handed power. Next up, maybe Duran? If the Odo, Hill, Homer injuries turn out to be more than blips on the radar, they may need high upside arms to serve as reinforcements. Either for the pen or rotation.
  18. I'm only guessing here, but my hunch is that they would treat it like the 1994 season. Everything up until the stoppage counted, they just won't have a finale.
  19. Quotation marks aren't necessary. It's a real disease that can be contracted.
  20. I was expecting Blankenhorn and would've preferred him or Celestino over Whitefield, who it appears hasn't hit at all since Cedar Rapids 2 years ago. I'm guessing his speed and defense could be early assets and you don't lose much if/when you have to make room on the 40 for someone else. Other than that, service time more important on the other 2?
  21. I couldn't disagree more. Nobody (or at least very few) is questioning or doubting the talent level. It's a total game-changer when he's on the field and we all desperately want to see it. But whether it's "bad luck" (not an actual thing) or playing style or some combination of the two, staying healthy enough to put that top-notch talent on display on a regular basis is a skill in and of itself. If he can't do that, he can't display those other tools. So, no, nobody should question or doubt the talent level Buck has, but I think it's absolutely fair to question whether or not he'll ever be healthy enough to contribute on a regular basis. So far (8 years), he hasn't proven that he can. It doesn't mean we're "stupid," or a naysayer or someone who doesn't dig deep into the numbers. It means we've watched a young player that's had a history of injuries ranging from minor to major over the course of the last 8 years.
  22. Can't say I'm a fan - at least as it's setting up. If Chacin and Poppen weren't likely to make the rotation, why stack them together? If this is the plan they're going with, why not put Dobnak in Chacin's spot, as he's shown results more recently, and stack him with either Bailey or Hill? This season has overthinking and experimental nightmare written all over it.
  23. This would be my hope, too. Cave is good as the 4th/5th OF, but I'd rather see one of the young guys out there every day. Maybe Rooker so it's not all lefties out there? If Celestino had played above A+, he might be my pick because it would keep Max in RF.
