  1. As it sits right now, a lot more guys than Ober and Ryan need to establish themselves. While I think Dobnak is much more suited for a starting role and expect him to be worked back into the rotation, I'm not sure that he can be relied on at this point. Even if you do decide to rely on him, that still leaves one open spot in the rotation. And that assumes that Bundy is less of what he was last season and more of what he was earlier in his career. This season's flow will go with the rollercoaster that is likely to be the rotation. Lots of highs and just as many lows.
  2. I'll never get tired of watching that swing. In their prime, there were two players in all of baseball that I would stop whatever I was doing and watch the at bat; Mauer and Pujols. Also, the only reason that I was at the final home game in 2018 was because I believed that was going to be Mauer's last game. I had more pressing things to do, and the weather certainly could have made for a more enjoyable day. I'm far from a Mauer fanboy, but I appreciate a talent like his and I wanted to enjoy it one last time. Absolutely glad that I went.
  3. I'd absolutely love to bring Bryant in. He's better than any of the depth they have anywhere aside from maybe 3B. He's a guy I'd find a place for. But it's all a pipe dream, so there's also that.
  4. That's certainly where he belongs, 1B. That Sano guy needs to get out of the way though.
  5. Good point. In my mind, I'd like to see him prove that 2018 and 2019 were the fluke, not 2021. I don't know what the likelihood of this would be, but I'd love to see him just flat out take the SS position in ST. Make it hard for the organization to send him back down. He excites me more than most of the remaining free agent crop anyway.
  6. I'm really enjoying the new approach on these prospect lists, Seth. Great reading as always!
  7. This largely depends on what the goal for the season is. If they're trying to rebound from last season and be competitive in the division, making a trade is the thing to do since they're clearly not signing free agent talent. But if they're retooling (or whatever we're calling it), then it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to deal anyone unless the idea is to free up playing time for a guy like Miranda.
  8. I don't know where he'd play without someone getting dealt. I definitely don't want him just sitting on the bench, he needs to be playing every day. It'll be interesting to see what happens if he has a massive spring though.
  9. Valid question, for sure. I'm willing to accept reluctance early in the season given the lack of prior season, but that doesn't apply to the later part of the season. Several were injured and I'm sure that trying to limit innings coming off the loss of the prior season also plays into it. I don't think that answers the question entirely though.
  10. The pitching prospects are the single biggest reason why I've been reluctant to simply write off this FO to this point. They were tasked with rebuilding the entire organization from the top down, that doesn't happen overnight. I have plenty of quarrels with how they've handled the big league club, particularly lately, but I've been under the assumption that they were simply setting themselves up for the point in time described in this article. Now they've just got to be right.
  11. I think Gordon is the primary backup to Buxton to start the season. Martin or Lewis will eventually play into that role. Celestino could as well, but depending on how Martin and/or Lewis turn out, he may be a good trade chip or become a primary backup should Lewis or Martin be dealt. There are a few scenarios there that would work fine, but beyond that, I'm not really sure what they've got.
  12. There are plenty of players that have that skillset. Like you said, he needs to learn to recognize those pitches and force pitchers to stay in the zone more. He can work himself into fastball situations more often and capitalize on those too.
  13. He's simply got to adjust. Breaking pitches at the MLB level are better and in better spots than they are in the minors. And everyone can throw them. I think he'll get that chance, and I think he'll be fine. But it's up to him to make that adjustment. Coaches can only do so much.
  14. I can see them adding OF depth, but I don't see them adding starting quality. I'd like to see them do it, but that list doesn't really excite me after the first two or three. Plus, I'd rather they do something rather than just sit out free agency all together.
  15. Given two lost seasons, I don't know how much value he really has at this point. Could someone bite? I suppose so, but I don't really see getting much of a return until he gets back into game action. And if he produces, then trading him probably doesn't make much sense.
  16. Great, now I'm having Matt Capps flashbacks again!
  17. I think it's time to shift Sano to DH and make room for Kirilloff at 1B. My understanding is that he's very good defensively there as well. Perhaps his best position. That would also take a little pressure off the logjam that is corner outfield.
  18. I think he was an pretty underrated player and had quite the career, but still probably not good enough for the Hall.
  19. I'm a small Hall guy, felt Kaat probably should already have been in. Wish Oliva's run was longer, then he'd definitely already have been in. Hard to argue his dominance before his knees took it from him. Happy for both regardless!
  20. I don't think it's a coincidence that Polanco's bat took off with the move to 2B. He was also healthier. That's not a coincidence either. They do need to bring in a shortstop. I'd rather they roll with Martin or Lewis at SS than move Polanco back. I agree entirely that that move was the best of the 2021 decisions. Don't negate it by undoing it. Regarding Polanco, this seems like a "don't mess with success" scenario. Find another solution.
  21. With such a long stride, trying to add another step in there probably adds its own set of potential issues. Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. You have a valid point though, that can't be good on that hip.
  22. Mine was when they actually let the ink dry on the deal before they non-tendered him. That was sweet.
  23. That roller coaster was so crazy that I got motion sickness just reading that! ?
