  1. Bold of you to assume that I've been wrong! ? First thing that comes to mind is Sano's ability to reign in the strikeouts. His eye at the plate was pretty good, but he'd miss so many balls in the zone that it just didn't make any sense not to come around.
  2. Agreed. There's definitely some "gotta spend money to make some money" aspects to this.
  3. This is true! But also a good point. The division is obviously ripe for the taking (just as it was last year) and this team went backwards, at least on paper. If there's a time to push all of your chips in, it would seemingly be now.
  4. That's an interesting thought though. It has been largely radio silence for the AL Central so far, so I guess this shouldn't be too surprising. I'd be interested to see this done again as spring training opens to see if anything has changed. Or even as the season begins. I wonder if things would cool down as we get further away from the winter meetings and all of the big name free agents are signed.
  5. There's definitely an argument to make regarding a healthy roster that's been decimated by injuries the last two seasons. But that's likely also the riskiest approach. At this point, there aren't a lot of options to fill needs that are still outstanding on this team, let alone depth moves. That puts the FO in a sort of no-man's land, which is at least partially their own doing. A healthy roster could be quite competitive for the division but little else. Another injury plagued season and it probably doesn't matter one way or another. At this point, I'm not really sure what the answer is.
  6. I've maintained for quite a while that given what Falvey was tasked with in rebuilding the organization from the ground up that he'll get plenty of time to do that. I still think that's true, but I do think it's time that those evaluations of the full process can start to be made. As such, I voted for him getting fired down the road, but wouldn't be surprised if it came in the next couple of years barring positive developments. I'm willing to wait to judge the off-season as a whole until ST starts, but the moves this far aren't promising.
  7. Not sure there's going to be much savings on Scotch tape...unless it's because duct tape is what's really needed! ?
  8. Drunk faster may be a good thing at this rate. And I can save money on Scotch!
  9. You can always "enjoy" the Gallo without dinner though!
  10. My pitchfork has broken and my torch burned out. You guys carry on without me!
  11. Not thrilled by the move. I don't really get it. If he were a RH bat, I'd be happier with the deal, yet still not thrilled. My concern is that the FO feels that this is the impact bat they need. He probably will be at times, and I imagine he'll hit around the middle of the order, but he's not the guy to fill that impact bat need.
  12. I guess that I need to update my post from @Nick Nelson's Coping with Correa Signing thread to include "It works for when they sign the completely wrong free agent". I'm with @Brock Beauchamp, this signing makes no sense.
  13. I wondered where I was going to get my prodigious strike out pace fix this season with Sano gone...
  14. Wow. That's frustrating, but also impressive at the same time. That is indeed his job, and he does it extremely well.
  15. There has to some realism in these offseason approaches by the FO. If they're not going to be serious about going after a top tier free agent, then they need forget about those and pursue the next tier down and do it more aggressively. Going after a top tier FA half-assed while allowing lower tier players to sign elsewhere in the process is not the way to conduct an offseason. If they're going to go after a top tier FA, then they need to do it seriously. Otherwise, don't pursue them at all and get more of the less flashy names to fill out a roster. This team is much further away from competing than a Correa. Coming up empty and/or needing to trade for guys to fill the roster holes isn't a sustainable approach.
  16. Being in on and actually signing those players are two very different things. If they weren't tying up funds for a potential signing and used that to up offers on other players they were supposedly in on, perhaps they'd have landed a few of those players. This team wasn't a Correa away from being a true competitor, they need many other pieces. Does the extra money guarantee signing those guys? Absolutely not, but it certainly increases the odds.
  17. I don't think they should have, but they should have realized that there was no way he was signing for less and moved on quickly instead of holding themselves hostage. To me, that's the most frustrating part of it. You can't be that low and expect him to sign let alone basically put yourself in a holding pattern on other signings at the same time.
  18. I was going to say that I doubted it would even need to be free, but free beer would certainly have a greater impact that not free beer even if it were cheaper than it currently is.
  19. I'm coping, I have Scotch! It's a multi-purpose solution. It works when they're losing. It works when they're winning. It works when they sign the free agent of choice. It works when they don't sign the free agent of choice. It's also applicable to the draft!
