  1. I think you posted these out of order. And I always pegged you for a swimming "costume" guy anyway.
  2. This is the exact reason I didn't allow myself to get overly excited after the last homestand. The AL is not good...
  3. Pretty sure my FIL has a pair of those sandals and I know they have the towel.
  4. Perhaps, but I have to imagine the Patriots and Tom Brady not only had a better case but more connections on a far less serious issue.
  5. Fair point, but I can enjoy a beer now and then. And I'm definitely in a mood to enjoy some jazz!
  6. Jazz night sounds perfect for my mood. Give me a cocktail and let me mellow out to some smooth sounds!
  7. Courts tend to avoid collectively bargained issues like this. See Tom Brady and Deflategate. The punishment handed down to Brady by the NFL was upheld because the situation in which he was punished was collectively bargained. Obviously much different situation, but still enforceable by the CBA, which both the owners and players agreed to.
  8. It's still against the law to physically abuse another person. They don't have to die to be prosecuted. The prosecutor felt that they couldn't meet the burden of proof to convict him of criminal charges. As @chpettit19points out, a case of "he said, she said" is difficult to prove. MLB has no such burden, only that he violated the terms of the CBA.
  9. Just like civil cases versus criminal cases, much different standards for burden of proof. MLB concluded that he violated the terms of the CBA, which is all that really matters in this particular scenario.
  10. MLB isn't messing around with domestic violence. Just because charges weren't handed down, they're still sending a message, right or wrong.
  11. MLB certainly seemed to take their time with this to be thorough. The punishment certainly sends a message.
  12. I'd love to see how much, if at all, his thoughts change after 15 to 20 starts. Or even if they change the allotted time on the clock. This is going to be harder for some than others.
  13. and you were right to do so! That's totally fair! Self awareness lags behind what others already know!
  14. I've watched this gif so many times that I'm starting to question my own sanity.
  15. I think they go hand in hand. And they both take time to consistent at. And one will breed the other in the process. In other team sports, great chemistry will often beat superior talent. That said, I think that the only real answer is... Yes.
  16. I'd be very interested in an update at the 40 game mark. Especially if the starters continue their trend and offense continues to warm up. The quarter mark of the season is also a reasonable place to look at reasonable trends and what direction this team is really headed in.
  17. I think your first point is a good one. There's definitely a trickle down effect with pitchers not even being allowed to go deeper into games because of the success hitters have the third time around. It reiterates the mention of the number pitchers Juan Soto has already seen in 86 PAs versus how many Ted Williams saw over the course of an entire 600+ PA season. And I'm fully on board with your last statement.
  18. Nice write-up! Interesting in-depth look at how the FO identifies a player they think they can get value out of both on the acquisition front and on the field. I think you see that with Joe Ryan as well. It doesn't seem like they're doing anything drastic, just minor tweaks or pitch mixes to make a guy more effective.
  19. I think the number of pitchers and their relative workload relationship is key to a lot of this. While I'm in favor of pitch clock, assuming it's actually enforced, I think that the already in place rules being enforced would also be helpful. And I wouldn't be opposed to adding a pitch clock even with the actual enforcement of the existing rules. Anything to speed up a pitchers pace would help reduce the max effort style of pitching, and ultimately improve action on the bases. And in my view, scoring. Whether that improves scoring or not, I don't know for sure. But at the very least it makes for a more interesting game when things are happening on the base paths.
  20. I thought this was a good piece with some solid reasons why the bats have struggled league wide. Do you agree with Tom? Disagree? Have other factors to consider? Let TD know below! https://www.si.com/mlb/2022/04/28/mets-hbp-baseball-conspiracies-the-opener
