  1. Pretty much. I figured that if it would be "okay" as long as they dealt Plouffe. Since that didn't happen, all bets were off. In fact, at that point I was convinced that that's exactly what was going to happen because that's the only way the deal made any sense.
  2. Also correct. I figured this day was coming as soon as that signing was made. I'm surprised that it took this long, but the writing was on the wall. That move created far more problems than it's been worth.
  3. Correct. I'm not going to lose sleep over Arcia, but there were more deserving options to be cut loose or sent down. Carrying the 13 pitchers for Molitor to mismanage and overuse is a mistake.
  4. I don't really want him getting AB's and time in the field over Buxton or Kepler, but there is no reason that he couldn't have been platooning at DH.
  5. I agree, he is playing far too much. But it's not because he's wearing out.
  6. I don't care where Polanco is playing as long as he's playing every day.
  7. And they're doing virtually the same thing with Polanco. I'm not sure if adding him to the active roster to provide depth and not playing him is better or worse than sitting behind that list of crap veterans. It's not good or smart, that is for sure.
  8. Agreed completely. At this point, there is no reason to consider using a roster spot on a defensive specialist (using it sarcastically). While I'm not nearly as bent out of shape about Arcia's DFA, I am miffed by the timing and how it went down.
  9. Agreed. The response there is that they have better all around options in the INF, but had none in the OF. Arcia can't even play a corner spot, let alone CF. Again, I'm simply stating what I believe to be the other side of this argument. It is very thin, I agree. But it's the only rational reason I can see as a benefit of this move.
  10. I said "adequate enough", which is not the same as adequate in my book. Though, clearly he isn't on the team for his offense. Secondly, please re-read the last sentence in my post.
  11. He's a backup that can play INF and OF. He's good/great at neither but plays them adequately enough and hits like a backup. I agree with your argument if he continues to play every day, but that versatility is why he's on the roster. Would I have rather they sent down a pitcher instead of DFA'ing Arcia, yes. They chose to keep the extra pitcher. Frankly, I'd rather see Santana sitting on the bench rotting than Polanco or another prospect. For the record, this is by no means an attempt to defend the FO. I'm simply pointing out what I perceive to be their reasoning.
  12. I know this isn't your point, but I'd argue that's exactly what they did. Arcia is better off elsewhere. He'll get a real chance.
  13. It's as though you were reading my mind. I was willing to give him the chance since I had no choice in the matter anyway, but other than that you took the words right out of my brain. That one move created so many other issues that he'd have to be an MVP in order for it to be worthwhile.
  14. In my view, he's not confused so much, but he can't hit a major league fastball. Not going to see those in AAA. He's good at punishing the odd hanger. I believe all of his HR's are on off speed stuff. But I'm not really opposed to sending him down, I was merely stating the perceived line of thinking. Vargas is earning another chance.
  15. Supposedly, the Korean league is similar to AAA. In order to adjust to MLB pitching, he's going to need to face MLB pitching. Sending him down doesn't serve as much of a benefit to him.
  16. Fair points and I agree completely with your last paragraph. But there are younger players arriving that exhibit more talent than a platoon DH. They shouldn't sacrifice big league PT at this point either. When Sano comes back, he'll likely get trotted back into RF again - which will be a direct result of an older player being entrenched at a position for some absurd reason. I think that scenario reinforces your point better.
  17. This is basically where I sit as well. I'm fine with DH types, but there isn't room for him there. Since I don't want to ever see him in the field again, that doesn't work. That is compounded with the fact that the Kepler's of the world are going to be better in the long run, IMO. Give me a guy that can field a position and bat with a better all around approach. 25 HR's a year are nice, but not if he's going to hit .210 and strike out 35% of the time. I do think it's best for both parties in this situation.
  18. My guess is that they don't feel that sending him down would be beneficial. I'm in that camp. To your point, failing isn't an issue for me. It happens. It's failure to recognize or do anything about it, continuing and compounding the failure that is the problem. Admitting mistakes and adjusting accordingly is the difference between crap leadership and competent leadership.
  19. add to the list: g) not sign a guy who was previously waived by two teams in 3 weeks.
  20. I was at that game as well. All I could do was shake my head, especially because of the scenario that preceded it. The 5th and 6th innings were just managerial folly. It's become comical with how inefficiently he uses the bullpen. It's no wonder these guys wear down.
  21. Ah, it was me who didn't understand your argument. That makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion. I'm not sure Beresford has any greater future with this team than Santana, but I can at least buy the argument that he deserves more of an opportunity in the Show. At this point, that is what this team should be doing. They need to figure out who is in the long term plans. Arcia obviously wasn't. I'm not overly bent out of shape about that, but I do think how this went down reeks of mismanagement as well.
  22. I wasn't necessarily trying to say it was. Beresford or the 12 guys on waivers aren't on the 40 man, so that complicates things further (unless they did the smart thing and not claimed Ramirez). If that happens, then you have two guys that can do the same thing on the 40 man. That doesn't make sense either. Fact of the matter is that the Park signing and a long list of other roster mismanagement led to this point. It always goes back to the pieces of this roster puzzle not fitting. I for one don't mind that they chose to move on from him. I do mind how they got here.
