  1. You're right! Now I'm curious. If you have two guys manning first base at the same time, is that like two base runners on the same base? Is one of them out? Is that a double negative, resulting in an extra out for the offense? I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!
  2. The night is young. Plenty of time to do that too. And I'd like to see Kepler moved as well.
  3. I had heard rumors of these types of things going on. Seems like the FO took innovation a bit too far in the training staff department...
  4. Yes they are. The "choose a player" bats are a pretty unique idea too. They have to be active MLB players, but they're individualized. I have a Pujols bat and it has highlights from his resume etched in it along with more basic things like his jersey number.
  5. Pillbox Bat Co out of Winona makes some pretty awesome decorative bats, among other things. I've got a couple of their bats in my rec room and they're pretty cool conversation pieces. https://pillboxbatco.com/collections/minnesota-collection
  6. Lee or Lewis? Yes. There's not a wrong answer to this question. And frankly, it doesn't matter. They're both fantastic prospects with potentially elite talent.
  7. The game has changed. And has arguably changed faster and more dramatically then it's ever changed before in its history. Not all fans are going to keep up with that. Not all of them will even want to, and that's fine. That's the risk of change. Analytics aren't going anywhere, so those that choose to stay do need to adapt to what the game has become. Analytics are everywhere. Not just baseball. Not just sports. Everywhere. Not using them is simply putting yourself at a disadvantage.
  8. Whose face is on it? Knowing @USAFChief, it's possible that his was actually minted before Hamilton was on it!
  9. Pretty sure I found it. In order to claim it, I require a $20 finders fee.
  10. I don't think it really made any difference. It's not like they brought in a totally new voice with a totally new plan, the assistant simply got elevated. Sure, each will have their own way of doing things, but the players knew him and how he operated. I think the injuries were a much bigger factor than Wes leaving.
  11. I said lights out reliever for a reason. Jax isn't a lights out reliever. He's not even a dominant reliever. Can he pitch one inning effectively? Sure. And I can trust him to do that more times than not. Many guys can, as you noted. But I'm not trusting those guys in the stickiest of situations like I would an elite reliever. I would Duran. Jax is not anywhere near Duran's level. Duffey was never at Duran's level. I might give you Lopez, though he wasn't at the end of this season. I can find more Jax's more easily than I can find a Duran. And you just illustrated that. I'm not worried about giving a player a chance to fail when he's already succeeding well in his current role. I'm not going to mess with what is working. Especially with someone as effective as he is. And since this team has a need in both the rotation and the bullpen, weakening one to strengthen the other doesn't make much sense to me. Plus, I don't believe the potential gains in the rotation are offset at all by the hole it creates in the bullpen.
  12. I look at it this way, it's easier to find a guy that can get through the order twice than it is to find a lights out reliever. And with the shorter starts, the more relievers you need. You only need one starter a day. I do see the appeal to try him as a starter, but given his injury history and his elite effectiveness as a reliever, I'm not in the camp that would mess with success.
  13. Considering how rare it is for a catcher to win a batting title in the first place, I'd bet that we have seen the last of it. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see it. I just don't expect it. And I'm in the group that thinks that fewer and fewer catchers will even qualify for batting titles as time passes. This conversation definitely makes me miss the likes of Mauer and Posey a lot more though. Those guys were fun to watch around the plate.
  14. With the deemphasis on starting pitching and the extra burden that puts on the bullpen, how much does that add to the equation?
  15. He needs to be reliever. That's the greater immediate need for the team and he's an incredible asset there. I'm not convinced that he'd be nearly as effective as a starter.
  16. This squad isn't built for the stolen base, so that they came in last in MLB is not surprising. And I would expect that trend to continue unless they reshape active roster construction considerably. Buxton and Gordon are only going to steal so many bases. I don't see larger bases making a dramatic change to this team's game to game strategy. All that said, I'd absolutely love to see it. I miss that aspect of the game a lot! And a baserunning threat complicates the shift. Less so now with the restrictions, but it can still be a problem for defenses.
  17. To me, this discussion is akin to the DH discussion for him. He's been hurt hitting, running and fielding. The only way to avoid injury appears to be to move him to coach. Moving him to a place where there's an extra wall to worry about seems antithetical to the solution.
  18. Correct on the bullpen. If the FO every wants to truly compete, a lockdown bullpen is a must. I wonder how prices for relievers will actually go down though when the league is moving towards shorter starts. That makes quality relievers an even harder get because of demand. The supply simply isn't there to keep prices down.
  19. It almost has to, doesn't it? The question will be how much.
  20. A welfare check should be scheduled should one of these teams actually advance to the World Series.
  21. That's true. "Problem" probably isn't the right term, but I basically see him as one in the same with the Polhads to an extent. Just as DSP is doing his job, the Polhads are running their business as they see fit. I don't really consider the Polhads a "problem" either, it's their philosophy that is at issue. That may seem like semantics, but just because I don't blame them for anything, that doesn't mean that I have to like it either.
  22. I think so. He's running their business for them and he's been there since Carl owned the team, IIRC. It's certainly not unfair, in my view. If the Pohlads didn't like what he was doing, he wouldn't still be there.
  23. Yes, the St. Peter quote is beyond tone deaf. Biting the hand that feeds you doesn't help things. Put something together that's worth investing time and money into and I'll do so. Shaming me because I'm not finding the product enjoyable and entertaining just tells me the fan, that he's not getting the hint. Perhaps he's part of the problem too.
  24. There's a very stark difference between ownership groups that enjoy being owners of a baseball, or any professional sports franchise really, and those that see it as another business. A business that is essentially a license to print money. It's very obvious which ones love the competitive nature of it and do what they can to win. They have fun in doing so. And over the long haul, they're going to make money regardless. Those that see it as another business treat it as just another business and do what it takes to make money. I don't necessarily "blame" them because not everyone likes sports and that's fine, but it definitely takes away from the fan and it probably doesn't maximize profits over the long haul either. Sure, it minimizes loss, but that only nets you so much on the top end too. There's more than one way to skin a cat. I for one, am very jealous of those teams that have owners that treat their franchise more as a hobby than a business interest.
