This week's show features the full fearsome foursome. With all hands on deck the gentlemen discuss the Torii Hunter signing and try to figure out if the press conference to announce the move was newsworthy in and of itself.

We also review the Twins decision to offer arbitration with all of their arbitration eligible players, and some other Twins news tidbits before we are joined by Seth Stohs (@SethTweets) from Twins Daily to discuss his upcoming book, the Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook.

Due to some technical difficulties and the time constraints of the hosts, we had to cut the show short. Be sure to tune in next week to hear us continue our reviewing the roster series when we discuss Kyle Gibson, Danny (Dan) Santana.

Thanks for listening.

The subject of the FSNorth Girls came up in a post by PeanutsFromHeaven the other day from a post about hirting his mom to be the next Twins manager.
http://twinsdaily.com/blog/68/entry-6101-an-unconventional-choice-for-the-next-twins-manager/
"•Hiring her would give young female fans something to aspire and relate to OTHER than being a Fox Sports North Girl. [Nothing wrong with the girls, but rather than having the broadcast focus on appearances and introductions, focusing on a woman's strategy, intelligence and involvement with the on-field action]"

I responded in a comment
"And I agree, in this day and age, should we really have women filling the roll of "girls" who have at least some expectation of being eye candy rather than reporters/broadcasters/journalists? Should we not also have FSNBoys? Would any man feel comfortable filling that description? I think it's great that Fox Sports are finding ways to get women into their broadcasts, but there has to be a less sexist way to do so than by objectifying them."

So I put the topic out to you, Twins Territory, what are we to make of the FSNorth Girls in today's world? Are they taboo and holding women back, exploiting them for their looks, or are they a viable option to get young sports minded women a foot into a male dominated world?

Maybe somewhere in between.

Josmil Pinto (aka Beans) wants you to do the Target Field Helmet Challenge. He years for you to stuff your face with a helmet full of fries, another full of nachos and a third filled with ice cream for a savory dessert. He wants you to live large and be merry.

He wants you to do the helmet challenge.

On September 15th the Twins host the Detroit Tigers. Pitching match-ups are still a long ways off, but the boys from the Talk to Contact Podcast would like to invite you to join them at the game for the Helmet Challenge. Beans may or may not be joinging you for a post-game photo and autograph signing.

Tickets are available from Ticket King for as low as THREE DOLLARS! Are you kidding me? No, I'm not kidding you. It's for real. I used the internet and the internet doesn't lie.

Eric (@erolfpleis) and Jay (@Jay__Corn) will assemble fans interested in the helmet challenge at various points during the game to try each of the three helmet dishes. Prizes (PRIZES!!!!) may be awarded to the winner, whatever it means to win a helmet challenge. I'm hoping there's peptobismol, or at least a roll of tums. Ow ow ow.

So join the Talk to Contact crew, and maybe Josmil Pinto, and do the Helmet Challenge.

The Twins head to KC after an off-day to take on the first place Royals (!!?!) with the following matchups scheduled

Ricky Nolasco v Danny Duffy (8-11, 2.53 ERA)

Phil Hughes v Yordano Ventura (10-9, 3.40 ERA)

Tommy Milone v Jeremy Guthrie (10-10, 4.32 ERA)

Do the Twins have a chance to take the series? They face Duffy, Ventura and Guthrie for the 2nd time in the last 2 weeks, a combination that resulted in 2 wins and a loss for the Royals when they visited Minnesota.

Nolasco has been a wreck all season, all I want from him is pain-free innings so he can come back next year and perform. I don't think he can keep KC in check, nor do I expect the Twins offense to continue scoring a million billion runs every night.

Phil Hughes represents a real chance at a victory every time he takes the mound, he walks no one and even misses some bats, something other Twins pitchers should take note of (it's allowed, even encouraged fellas!). If the Twins bats can muster a couple of runs Hughes may very well be able to quiet the fans in KC and allow the Twins a chance at a series victory.

Tommy Milone, who gave up 6 runs in 1.1 to these same Royals a short 10 days ago, will try to redeem himself under considerably dryer conditions. Guthrie hasn't been great and strugged in his last outing against the Twins, giving up 5 runs but still earned a victory thanks to a rain-soaked 7 run 2nd inning. I think Tommy pitches considerably better in KC, but that the Royals keep on Royalsing and take the series 2-1.

How's that for optomism?

What are your keys to the series?
5. Paul Pleiss
Sean Doolittle of the Oakland A's did a guest piece for ESPN and made up some Sabermetric stats for Oakland, including in his list were BDP (Beard Dependent pitching), WPA/3+C (win probablitly added with three plus catchers in the lineup) and frFSR (right field fan scouting report) along with others, You can check the article for the full list.

What sort of tongue in cheek stats would the Twins have?

LAR (Legs above replacement) If you have bi-lateral leg weakness, that's an automatic -2.0 on the LAR scale.

HAH+ (Heart and Hustle plus) Adjusted to 100 for league average, above is better, below is worse. Gardy uses this stat to make his lineup. No heart, no hustle, no playing time.

2BB2 (Play second, bat second) The number one stat used to determine lineup construction on a day in, day out basis.

There's a new fad going around MLB with funny signs trolling players. Hunter Pence has been trolled pretty hard by fans across the country, and the Astros mascott, Orbit, was giving it to J.P Arencibia pretty good when Tornoto was in town last week. My favorite was "J.P. Arencibia cried during the Notebook." That's prime time, grade-A, trolling.

Joe Mauer is the face of the Twins ballclub, but this season he's struggled to play up to Joe Mauer levels, and to stay healthy. Fans have been booing Mauer, both in real life, and all over the Twitter machine. If you're going to get down on Mauer, let's do it in a more creative way. let's have a little fun. Let's troll Joe Mauer.

Here are some signs I'd recommend taking on your next trip to Target Field

"Joe Mauer puts cream and sugar in his coffee."

"Joe Mauer gets beat up by his brother Jake."

"Joe Mauer thinks Christian Ponder is a good QB."

"My mom has better sideburns than Joe Mauer."

"Joe Mauer let the dawgs out."

"Joe Mauer took the last cup of coffee and didn't make a new pot."

"Joe Mauer has dandruff."

"Joe Mauer doesn't eat his peas and carrots."

And my own personal favorite

"Joe Mauer prefers cats over dogs"

A Lament

By Percy Bysshe Shelley 1792–1822
Retold by Paul Pleiss

O world! O life! O time!
On whose last steps Jarod Burton doth climb,
Trembling at that where he had stood 66ft 6in before;
When will return the glory of your prime?
No more—Oh, never more!

Out of the day and night
A joy has taken flight;
Fresh spring, and summer, and winter hoar,
Move my faint heart with grief, but with delight
No more—Oh, never more!

Major League Baseball, we've been told, has decided that there are too many people talking about baseball on the internet and sent a request to iTunes to have many baseball related podcasts removed. We're one of the many podcasts affected. So far, based on what he's been able to find so far, John Bonnes has found that in addition to Twins podcasts, the Cubs, Orioles and Mets.

While this seems like a minor issue, MLB might just be getting started. Obviously if they make the move to remove all team specific podcasts from iTunes there will be additional pressure on them to reverse course, but they might just start asking the big name hosting sites to remove team specific blogs as well.

Get in contact with Major League Baseball and let them know how you feel. We'll be doing the same.

For now, you can continue to find our podacst right here at TalkToContact.com, and we'll be available on Stitcher Radio. For our Android users, there should not be any change right now. But maybe MLB will go after us there as well.

Stay tuned, and there is more to come on Episode 82 about how we plan to handle this going forward.
UPDATE 1: If you're curious about how to continue to listen, David Temple at FanGraphs has the scoop - http://www.fangraphs.com/not/advice-listening-to-baseball-podcasts-after-562014/

UPDATE 2: Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) issued the following statement earlier this afternoon.

As we have done in the past, yesterday we notified Apple about certain podcasts on the iTunes Store whose titles and/or thumbnails include infringing uses of trademarks of Major League Baseball and certain Clubs. And, as we have done in the past, we asked Apple to have these trademarks removed from the podcast titles and thumbnails. Although we did not ask for or seek to have any podcast removed from the Store, it has come to our attention that Apple removed them. Given our many years of experience in notifying Apple about trademark issues on the Store, we trust that removing the podcasts was an oversight, and ask that you please look into this matter as soon as possible.
Thank you for your cooperation.I'm curious to see what the end resolution is for this, but I am happy to see so much turmoil directed at MLB as the news hit twitter/blogs across the internet.

Episode 65 is out for your listening enjoyment. Happy New Year from all of the gang at Talk to Contact. We debated titling the podcast after Twins Coach Nelson Prada who wore #65 a few years ago, but anytime Tom Kelly's zubaz come up on conversation you are required to title said conversation after those wonderful pants. You can download the new Talk to Contact (@TalkToContact) episode via iTunes or by clicking here.
http://puckettspond.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2014/01/tom-kelley-300x450.jpgAfter a holiday hiatus the Talk to Contact podcast returns will all of the usual contributors. Up for discussion this week is Chris Colobello declining a trip to Korea, the make-up of the Twins opening day outfield, former Twins making comebacks and a rousing of debate of whether or not Kurt Suzuki will play a meaningful role for the Twins in 2014. We go down on the pond and take a look at the Twins 2013 4th round draft pick, Stephen Gonsalves (LHP), discuss whether a shandy should even be considered a beer and talk about moves from around the rest of the MLB, including possible landing spots for Masahiro Tanaka and the potential for the Houston Astros to contend in the AL West this coming season. All of that and more on this week's podcast.
Thanks for the download. You can follow Cody on Twitter (@NoDakTwinsFan) or read his writing at NoDakTwinsFan, and you can find Eric on Twitter (@ERolfPleiss) and read his writing at Knuckleballs! If you enjoy our podcast, please take a couple extra minutes and rate and review us on iTunes. Ratings and reviews have magical iTunes powers, that will help Liam Hendriks make the major league club in Baltimore and hopefully pitch against Danny Valencia and the Royals, beaning him in the middle of the back.

For the first time in many moons Cody takes a break and Paul and Eric are forced to go it alone. We talk about Aaron Hick's demotion to AAA, whether or not the Twins are "rebuilding" and who the winners and losers were at the trade deadline. Adam (AJ) Pettersen is this week's minor league prospect profile; will he ever get a cup of coffee in the big leagues? Google image search black holes, good summer beers and lots more on this week's episode of the Talk to Contact podcast.

I live in Seattle, a city known for rainy days and craft beer. I like it here, and while I'm a long way from my beloved Minnesota Twins, the Mariners community here in Seattle is quite welcoming. After watching the Twins fall to the Tigers on Opening Day I headed over to the open house held at Safeco Field.

(this post originally appeared at http://www.baseballtwins.com)

The Mariners opened the stadium at 6pm with free admission for all fans, free parking and 5-dollar beers all evening. 15,000+ Mariner fans showed up to watch the game on the newly installed jumbo tron, the biggest in all of baseball. I got a chance to walk around the warning track and enjoy a wide variety of craft beers around the stadium before finding a seat and watching Felix Hernandez stifle the Oakland Athletics. I even picked up a Seattle Pilots cap which I'll be sporting around Seattle in the days and weeks ahead. The Pilots, who left Seattle after one season to become the Milwaukee Brewers, had one of my favorite caps in MLB history (http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1915837&CAWELAID=1808382631&cagpspn=pla).

A big thank you to the Mariners for putting on the Open House. It was fun being able to walk around the warning track and take in the new additions to Safeco field. There's a great patio seating section in Center field now that they've moved the fences in, and Seattle legend Edgar Martinez was on hand signing autographs and taking pictures in Edgar's lounge. A neat way for Seattle fans, and baseball fans of all sorts, to get back into the baseball mode.

It was fun being back in a major league ball park watching baseball. And while I didn't get to see the Twins or the Mariners play in person, the huge screen, the roar of the crowd, the smell of hot dogs, beer and fresh grass was enough to have be back in baseball heaven after a long and somewhat depressing off-season. Baseball is back, and I'm looking forward to another season of America's pastime.

In Episode 31, Paul, Eric, and Cody get together to discuss Twins news leading up to Opening Day, the Twins 25-man roster, and they make their MLB predictions for each division, for the World Series, and for MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year. Cody does a great job in his first full show on Talk to Contact, and while his segways are initially weak, he gets stronger as the episode goes along. Along the way we’re joined by Bryan Craves, the Displaced Tigers Fan, to talk about Opening Day, Justin Verlander, and what might happen in the Twins’ first series of the year. Brace yourself for more than 130 minutes of awesome.

Now more than 6 months into the podcasting experiment the Pleiss brothers tackle the glory and excitement that is the dawn of the 2013 baseball season. Among things discussed are the real value of spring training stats (none), things to watch around the diamond in 2013 for the Twins (infield, outfield, rotation, bullpen) and a discussion of arguably the biggest post MVP flop in baseball history (Zoilo Versalles); toss in some banter about whether or not bigger is actually better, prospect talk (Jorge Polanco and Niko Goodrum) with Seth Stohs (@SethTweets) and some other baseball banter and you've got a fine mess for your listening enjoyment.

Paul spent the weekend up in Minnesota attending TwinsFest, drinking beer and talking baseball. As a result, he sounds both hungover and lifeless on the podcast, but there's still lots of great content. Apologies to the listener for the audio quality at points during the recording as Paul was using his AWESOME (sarcasm) travel laptop for recording, thus you can literally hear the computer fan whirring in the background trying to keep the computer from exploding.
