  1. Nice take, agreed that the Twins somehow landed the #1 shortstop in the game for ages 28-33 seasons and the (long suffering) Minnesota fans need to enjoy it. For a decent price with control at the end of the contract. Enjoy the ride in 2023 with Correa leading the charge, enjoy superstars Correa and Buxton on the field together, enjoy the Correa Hall of Fame introduction ceremony as a Twin in 20 years, enjoy it all.
  2. I'm glad people found deals. Weren't they for the outdated merchandise, though? My experience was I gave my Correa shirt to charity when it first appeared he wasn't returning to the Twins. Then, a thrifty friend gave me a Correa shirt for Christmas, which I told him I'd use it for yard work. Now, I'll wear it much more often for many years.
  3. What are you unsure about? Bauer's suspension was reduced and he was reinstated. Per ESPN.com, "The Dodgers are on the hook for the $22.5 million Bauer is owed for the final season of his contract but would save $720,000, the major league minimum, if another team signs him in the open market." It's fine if you don't want the Twins to consider signing Bauer. The suspension and contract information is factual, though.
  4. That's like worrying about how you will pay the taxes if you hit the Powerball.
  5. I'm not surprised since this franchise hasn't been relevant in the playoffs for 20+ years and has only sniffed the World Series once in 30+ years. The 2019 Twins taught me that the championship hopes of this Twins franchise are on par with the Vikings franchise - highly unlikely and don't ever get your hopes inflated. I've learned to stay detached from the results and just enjoy the process, the atmosphere, and the games.
  6. I'm glad to see Joe Ryan get his due. I can't help but feel we are mining fool's gold with two unproven at the MLB level shortstops in the top 5.
  7. I hinted at this before and must state it again now. Why such a hard line approach on Luis while (presumably) Buxton gets a pass as I'm assuming Buxton will be #1? Injuries are held over Arraez's head while the more often injured Buxton doesn't seem to get penalized as much for health. Arraez wins the batting title in 2022 and is at his max? Buxton wasn't at his max (when he was on the field) in 2022? It seems quite a double standard. Arraez hit .316 in 2022. He eclipsed that BA in both 2019 and 2020. I believe he can hit .330 in a full season. 2023 will be his age 26 season, he has room to improve and put up better numbers the next 5 seasons. His home runs have slowly increased to 8 in 2022. I'm not bold enough to predict a 20 HR season for Luis - I will state he will achieve double digits in home runs. I'm placing my money on Arraez's numbers improving for the next 5 years.
  8. Yes, that's it. In the moment at Target Field and the game starts it doesn't matter that they haven't really competed for a title except for maybe once in the last 30 years. It's the Twins, outdoor baseball, let's go. God has blessed us to enjoy watching the greatest players in the world at the game we love. What more can we ask?
  9. It's interesting how Arraez is dinged for a "tough aging curve" while I'm assuming in the 1-5 rankings Buxton will be #1. As for Miranda, only 15 home runs in 2022 surprised me. I would have guessed 20+. Memories fade and I was there for the Hader walk off and other nice Miranda games so I was influenced. Emmanuel Rodriguez wasn't on my radar, so that is a name I will now track closer. I am a huge Ober fan and like his ranking.
  10. The best ability is availability. Buxton is not available (or full strength) a great amount of games. I am as big of a Buxton fan as anyone. I just cannot count on Buxton to be there in the field for the Twins. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me nine times (estimated number of Buxton injuries, I can't find an exact count), shame on me for believing.
  11. 1 Vikings, 1 Wolves, 1 Wild, 2 Twins. Although I do like someone's earlier idea for a three peat for the Vikings to shut up the sanctimonious Packers fans.
  12. I've longed for the Metrodome during many a cold April game at Target Field.
  13. Wow, 57 games is impressive. I agree with your list, especially number 11. The best way to spend a night is at Target Field. The complaints about baseball being too boring, the cost, and time spent are tiresome and always somewhat surprising to me for some reason. Anyway, I made it to 22 Twins games in 2022, 19 at Target Field, 2 at Dodger Stadium, and one at Angels Stadium. I also attended non-Twins MLB games at Wrigley Field and Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. The Twins were 9-13 when I attended. I saw the Kershaw truncated no hitter, walk offs by Buxton, Miranda against the hated Brewers, and so much more. The only addition I have to your list was the all you can eat Friday nights were quite fun. I was convinced to go by my buddy and begrudgingly went along. I enjoyed the variety and was able to keep the consumption in check. So, I took my dad a few weeks later and he also enjoyed. I just fasted the day of the all you can eat games so I could enjoy the unlimited ballpark favorites guilt free.
  14. Yes, very pessimistic yet realistic. They had a chance this offseason to spend and improve, mission failed. There's still time, maybe they can pull off a trade that is a difference maker. So far, it's just been Joey Freakin' Gallo - yuck.
  15. That's an interesting and unique take on switching the teams around in Santana's career and I agree. As for the not getting three Cy Youngs, I believe it dearly cost him. Voters not very familiar with his career would have seen the 3 awards and maybe given Santana some consideration. There is a clear line of distinction between two and three Cy Young awards: Clemens 7 - we all know why he's not HOF yet; Randy Johnson 5 - HOF; Greg Maddux 4 - HOF; Steve Carlton 4 - HOF; Justin Verlander 3 - future HOF; Max Scherzer 3 - most likely future HOF; Clayton Kershaw 3 - most likely future HOF; Pedro Martinez - HOF; Jim Palmer -HOF; Tom Seaver 3 - HOF; Sandy Koufax 3 - HOF. Pitchers with 2 Cy Young Awards Jacob deGrom (NL 2018-19) probably not having an HOF career as of now Corey Kluber (AL 2014, '17) probably not having an HOF career as of now Roy Halladay (AL 2003, NL 2010) HOF Tim Lincecum (NL 2008-09) off HOF ballot after one year Johan Santana (AL 2004, '06) Tom Glavine (NL 1991, '98) HOF Bret Saberhagen (AL 1985, '89) off HOF ballot after one year Gaylord Perry (AL 1972, NL 1978) HOF Bob Gibson (NL 1968, '70) HOF Denny McLain (AL 1968-69) not in the HOF Who knows, maybe Johan didn't get that third Cy Young for a reason. That would have likely been difficult for some voters to vote yes on Santana considering he was a one and done case with only 2.4 percent voting yes.
  16. Yes, the Gold Glove at 1B would have been quite a feather in the cap. My worst fear is that not getting that GG will lead Joe to have a Johan Santana type HOF case that gets dismissed too quickly. Johan lost a Cy Young to Bartolo Colon when he shouldn't have and it presumably cost his HOF case a lot of votes.
  17. Oddly enough, it seems Mauer has a more positive profile nationally. Possibly they weren't burdened with the ultra high expectations so they have a more reasonable summary of Joe's accomplishments post career.
  18. I'd rather take a risk on a multi-year contract rather than a one year contract with Joey Freakin' Gallo. It's about a 99.9999 percent chance Gallo is gone after one year. So, even if Joey brings back the glory years, takes a liking to the short right field porch in Target Field, and hits 40 bombs in 2023, he's most likely gone. I'm just not sure what that gets the franchise since they aren't a championship contender in 2023 (at least not yet).
  19. The Yankees beat Cleveland in the ALDS, 3-2. Although I do give Cleveland credit for playing the Yankees tough. We all know our Twins would have been swept. Yes, Cleveland had the horseshoe in 2022. I couldn't help but think, why couldn't that have been our Twins? Again, tip of the cap to Cleveland for winning the close games and taking advantage.
  20. Let's talk baseball on Christmas morning?!? Yes, I love it. I don't believe Mauer will be first ballot Hall of Fame. I do believe he has a better than not chance of getting in within the first five years. Then, I plan to make my first trip to Cooperstown to celebrate watching a guy from playing in high school to the HOF.
  21. Dare to dream, twinssporto. Dare to dream, my friend. If only the Twins could be so lucky.
  22. Well, I've learned to get detached from outcome to allow myself to enjoy the season. The Twins have won one playoff series in the last 30 years and currently hold the all-time record for most playoff losses in a row. If I keep things in perspective such as just enjoying the game or soaking in the atmosphere at Target Field while not getting too focused on the score then it helps. It's almost a defense mechanism. 2019 I let my guard down and believed in the Bomba Squad and they ended up with the same old result of getting swept. I learned my lesson during that season.
  23. As someone else already mentioned, competing for a playoff spot in the weak Al Central is attainable. That isn't really too impressive and not really a success marker. I'd amend the statement to, "The Twins won't be competing for a World Series title or being a factor in the playoffs anytime soon."
