  1. It's been a real eye opener to me as to the value of the fans in live attendance. I'd been under the false assumption for years that MLB could operate profitably without fans in the stands. The competitive balance issue is troubling to me as well. It is baffling why they can't have some semblance of sanity on this issue of the haves and have nots financially.
  2. MVP - La Tortuga As you said, let's have some fun with the SSS.
  3. I couldn't agree more. Hopefully, this is all just posturing and they cut a reasonable deal soon. It's all about greed and baseball is dancing close to a major PR disaster. I remember 1994 and how many friends and family that were casual fans said forget MLB. If they don't play a 2019 the negative reactions will dwarf what happened in 1994.
  4. I didn't realize this season was the swan song for so many Twins. This was such an ugly period of sustained Twins losing. The losing of the 90s didn't seem to sting so much, maybe because the memory of 1991 was recent.
  5. No. That is not it at all. You have the right to that opinion. I don't agree as I can remember the 1970s and how society still treated people then. The offensive language still used and accepted, and the unfair treatment. Things have gotten better for minorities, disabled, special needs, LGTBQ, etc. in the last 55 years. I disagree with your attack on white people. I firmly believe you would consider my family and me part of "White America" that you feel is preventing change when nothing could be further from the truth. I want to thank TFRazor for the post which does a great job of making points I agree with on what has really changed in 55 years and "subconscious racism".
  6. This was over the line and offensive. I have been telling myself for 24 hours not to respond to this thread. For my own reasons. I have been reading, trying to respect and understand the various perspectives expressed. I cannot do the same for these words.
  7. Yes, just a terrible season from the get-go. My only lasting memory is thinking that Gardy should get fired after the September collapse. Little did I know how wrong I'd be.
  8. I just remember how darn difficult and expensive it seemed to get tickets in 2010. I remember walking into the Twins pro shop in Apple Valley and it was packed with people (10 years before social distancing, a scene like that seems so odd now). Finally getting my chance to buy some tickets, I simply spent my entire budget that day because demand was so crazy. Fun season,Tarvet Field turned out to be worth it. I went to 2 or 3 games that April and just remember the thrill of outdoor baseball and the buzz of the excited Twins fans.
  9. Jeepers, $400 per week is $10 per hour. Even after all that has happened, the owners should pay this for Pete's sake. The business of baseball is broken, as it always has been.
  10. My knee jerk reaction was a solid no for Torii. You spun a good case so i looked at JAWS, where Torii is at 34, right behind guys like Curtis Granderson, Ellis Burks, Devon White, and Brett Butler. Hall of Very Good may be more appropriate.
  11. Or, the Twins now get Rich Hill from opening day (the Strib recently projected a mid-July return), Maeda won't wear down and get sent to the bullpen, and Graterol will essentially lose a year of development.
  12. The amount and frequency of the strikeouts is sickening. Yes, it will eventually catch up to Sano, good work on the Prince Fielder comp. One of the baseball principles I grew up with was that you cannot get a hit if you don't put the ball in play.
  13. If both sides end up scuttling the 2020 season and get portrayed as greedy pigs unable to split a $3 billion pie then they will lose many fans.
  14. I know it doesn't get any better as this series makes its way to 2019, however, it is getting really old to have a great regular season followed by a thud in the playoffs.
  15. Yes. The lousy, cheating Astros title from a few years ago is still considered legitimate so 2020 should have no issues in comparison. World War II had players lost to war service including big names such as Ted Williams, Stan Musial, and Joe DiMaggio and those years are all considered valid.
  16. Ditto, this has been a great series so far. I am in the camp that Johan losing out on this Cy Young derailed any chance of a serious HOF candidacy. I still can't recall Mauer stealing bases, although I know he was a great all around athlete as I watched him play high school football.
  17. Wasn't the celebration in the clip subdued because it was the Twins only clinching a tie for the division instead of outright winning the division?
  18. Thanks for the memories. Taking a detailed dive like this really highlights how much fun and how special it is to follow a team long term. Johnny Damon on the Royals! I haven't thought of that game in 20 years, it's weird to spark that memory of such an obscure game.
  19. Fear is the opposite of faith and there are no guarantees in life (especially in this COVID-19 new normal). If baseball does things the right way and uses common sense and logic in regard to safety then things should (hopefully) be OK. To call the season off quibbling over dollars would be a travesty and tbe lost fans will dwarf the 1994 numbers.
  20. I will echo what others have said so far and state that I expect Mitch to be solid behind the plate for the next 3-5 years. I love the swing and disciplined plate approach and it should serve Mitch well as he ages.
  21. A.J was a legit pick. The guy acted like a horse's patooty. Don't hate Jeter because he roasted our Twinkies for all those years. He was the epitome of class. Even though the Twins beat the Cardinals in the 1987 World Series, Ozzie Smith always annoyed me to aggravation.
  22. Even though he had one rough start against the Twins last season, I fell like Lucas Giolito will be in this list in 10 years.
