Article: Twins Daily Top 10 Twins Prospects Update
Vanimal46 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm very excited to see when the Twins will bring up Berrios. I don't think I'm any different than other Twins fans when I thought Meyer was the consensus #1 SP in the farm system. Berrios has continued to develop quickly, and from the sounds of it, might be the first true ace of the rotation we've had since Johan.- 21 replies

Article: Is The Rotation Turning Around?
Vanimal46 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We have 3 starters in the rotation that I am confident with - Gibson, May, and never thought I would say this.... Mike Pelfrey. The synopsis on Hughes is convincing that he can turn it around, but overall I think it's going to be a down year for him compared to last year. With Nolasco... The Twins should throw him a party if he makes it through 6 innings.- 39 replies

Article: Twins Outfield Of The Future Begins
Vanimal46 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Much like others have mentioned, I am not sold on Arcia as an OF option in the future. Ideally I'd like to see Rosario-Buxton-Hicks for the future. Arcia seems to be too much of a head case this early in his career. The bat potential is there, but the guy shows no desire to be a serviceable OF. He could be a DH option, but we also have Vargas, Hunter, and Escobar who can fill that role. I don't know if Arcia just grew a big ego from hitting 20+ bombs in his rookie year, but he is certainly not consistent enough at the plate to forgive his bone headed mistakes in the field. -
Article: Aaron Hicks Promoted, Who's Next?
Vanimal46 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It has to be some bullpen arms that gets the call from TR right? Stauffer's not lighting the world on fire right now... Also, has Alex Meyer completely fallen off the map for a potential promotion this year? Nolasco's spot in the rotation should not be set in stone.- 39 replies

Article: It's Time For Aaron Hicks
Vanimal46 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Unlike Byron Buxton who I am all for an aggressive approach to get him to the majors ASAP, I am completely fine with this conservative approach with Hicks. Maybe I would feel differently if the Twins have not already given him extended time and opportunities with the team over the last 2 seasons. He may only be a AAAA type of player who never really gets it figured out at the MLB level. I'd let him be the star of AAA for the time being, and if he continues to play this for a few more months, I'd like to see him in August/September -
Article: Time To Take Twins Seriously?
Vanimal46 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like most commenters have mentioned I am really enjoying this current string of good baseball by the Twins. Are we contenders yet? Too early to tell. But some promising trends so far: we have a 12-11 record so far in the AL Central. I'm too lazy (and a few drinks too far) on looking up stats, but it seemed like we were getting crushed by teams in our own division the last couple of years. We've also been winning against bad teams so far, which I hope continues the rest of the way. I think 3rd place in the Central is certainly possible this year as the White Sox took over as the division's dumpster fire, and the Indians SP has regressed; specifically Kluber. If we are within 10 games from a WC or division crown in mid-July, who will be our Shannon Stewart circa 2003 that brings us over the hump and back into the playoffs?- 41 replies

You love the topic "year of control" don't you? I've read this in multiple forums by you. If you've read and learned from other forums, you would know that a "year of control" is not burned when the rosters expand in September. Now before you change the subject to "cost of control" I'm going to quote stringerbell's reply from your comment in another thread. "Year of cost control.Yes, if Buxton were recalled before the All-Star break, it is possible that he would be eligible to be a "Super 2" and making him arbitration eligible after less than three full seasons. This would make every contract he signs with the Twins more expensive." I doubt we will ever get to this problem with Buxton. Because if he comes up and is as-advertised, we are going to lock him up in a long-term deal just like Mauer. Bring up Buxton ASAP.

Did The Twins Create Another Debacle?
Vanimal46 commented on Ted Schwerzler's blog entry in Off The Baggy
I don't see any harm in having a cup of coffee in the big leagues.. On another note, why is it assumed that if he struggles in this 2 week stint, that his confidence/development as a player will crumble? In theory, you're seeing better pitching at the MLB level. We won't know if he'll sink or swim once he sees this level of pitching. If he does struggle and gets sent back down, wouldn't he see the ball better just from having that experience? -
When will Byron Buxton be called up?

Article: Game Thread A's@Twins 5/4 7:10PM
Vanimal46 replied to Riverbrian's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is there any mention of Rosario being in the lineup for game 2 of this series? -
To make a point on Santana, sure he could come help out in the 2nd half of this season. More realistically I would think he's going to be very inconsistent. He's going to have some rust after not pitching for half a year recovering from not injesting/injecting PED's, right? Or does that logic only apply to Buxton & Sano working off the rust mentioned in earlier threads?

Limestone Baggy sees this season clearly without blue & red tinted glasses. Reasons to be cautious and not go overboard on this year so far: We've seen Plouffe have these hot streaks before, and we've also seen him disappear off the face of the earth for weeks at a time. I really hope he can stay consistent, but there hasn't been any evidence in his MLB career so far to say he will. Twins W-L record on this date (May 4th) over the last 5 seasons: 2010 - 18-9 (last contending season) 2011 - 11-18 2012 - 7-18 2013 - 12-14 2014 - 14-15 2015 - 13-12 we've seemed to be competitive around this time since 2013, but as we all know it didn't turn out to be the case. If I am wrong I will gladly eat crow, but I still need to be convinced that the current roster on hand is a part of a master plan to be competing for a playoff spot this season.

Article: Between A Rick And A Hard Place
Vanimal46 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Up to this season, I could have led pitchfork nation against Mike Pelfrey. But as long as he's starting to figure things out, I am okay with him in the rotation. I have now focused my pitchfork efforts on Nolasco. I hope the only motive to put him back in the rotation is to see if he shows any signs of turning things around. If he has 2 starts in a row where he lasts 5+ innings, I would deal him in a heart beat. Heck, even a Josh Hamilton type deal where we only get "cash considerations or a player to be named later" would be a good deal for Nolasco.- 68 replies

I'm with you 100%. I'd be curious to have someone outside of the organization review the farm, and see if it's still this highly rated. Or if we've been fed lies the last 4 years. In my opinion it feels like we're still 2 years behind where the Cubs and Astros are. When they decided to blow it up and start over, we were still signing re-treads and no upside veterans as if we were thought to be a competitive team. I don't get it.

Article: When Is It Time To Take Action?
Vanimal46 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No doubt about it, Terry has made countless errors in judgment over the last 4-5 years since he reclaimed his GM title. When you think about it, he spent the vast majority of his career scouting, selecting, and signing low-ceiling "pitch-to-contact" pitchers. When the philosophy changed 3-4 years ago to acquiring power arms like Meyer, May, etc. the organization has not been able to adapt and develop these guys. There has to be a younger candidate OUTSIDE of the organization that can come turn this around. You would think it would be an attractive opportunity with the prospects we have, and more high-end prospects to come this June, and June 2016.- 113 replies

Article: Twins Lose, Fans Boo, So Hope Remains
Vanimal46 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes that is true. Can't blame anyone for taking a raise when it's offered to them. He was mediocre in the NL with only 2 full seasons below a 4 ERA. I don't know why he was expected to do anything better in the AL with us. If only we weren't so desperate for any pitcher with a pulse that off-season. I fear it's going to be the same situation in 2017-2018 seasons with Ervin Santana.- 136 replies

Article: Twins Lose, Fans Boo, So Hope Remains
Vanimal46 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sure that plays into it. But more than that, he's just been flat out brutal since joining the team. A 5.38 ERA last year, large # of walks allowed, and throwing meat balls down the middle (like Moonshot Scott Baker) isn't going to win over any fan base. Plus... the $11.5 million pay check for mediocrity doesn't sit well either.- 136 replies

Wow what a crazy stat! I can only imagine the look on Calvin Griffith's face that night with 5,213 fans in the crowd. Thanks for a great bar trivia question that I can stump my fellow mid 20 year old friends with- 136 replies
