  1. In fairness, what were the other options besides the FA mercenaries this season? I was all on board for Jose Berrios receiving the Kris Bryant treatment and getting him up ASAP. Unfortunately he was not ready for the MLB, and was the team's closest prospect to being ready. I think we're all arguing for the same thing... To take a chance on a lottery ticket such as Brett Anderson to potentially flip for something else in July. Maybe a guy like him does get a 3 year deal, and if so, good luck to whichever team made that decision. Personally, I think this team needs to hedge their bets with better alternatives than Pat Dean and Andrew Albers in case if Mejia/Gonsalves/Berrios implodes in 2017.
  2. They've been playing a lot of kids the last 2 years... Hell, they could pencil an entire lineup of players 27 and under if they want to. I'm just not that comfortable penciling kids in rotation spots without hedging our bet with someone else. Still feeling the burn of Duffey and Berrios' very bad seasons with Dean and Albers as a backup plan.
  3. Agreed. This last season was particularly bad on the injury side, but most any season, a team needs 5-6 MLB quality starters, and 3-4 fringe MLB players (top prospects) to prevent the Albers and Deans of the world from seeing an MLB field. Right now the Twins have 4 MLB experienced potentials (E San, Gibson, Santiago, May) and 3 fringe MLB starters (Mejia, Berrios, Gonsalves) I've purposely left out Hughes until there's more clarity with his injury, and I don't know what to think about Duffey. I'd prefer not to have a Duffey/Berrios MLB implosion again, so Mejia/Gonsalves should be handled more conservatively. I see 1 or 2 short term fixes in the rotation until some of the fringe MLB players force the issue. If they do force the issue, then a Brett Anderson type can be flipped for something else in July.
  4. I'm absolutely on board with this. A couple of things though: 1. Is he going to post this off-season? It's been very quiet on that front. 2. The last thing I see on MLB Trade Rumors (granted this was from May) is Otani wants to go to a team that will use him as both a pitcher and hitter. That screams NL, or the Twins could be the first AL team to use him as a DH on his off-days I suppose. There's a lot of hype behind Otani, and more than likely he's going to shatter Dice-K and Darvish's posting fee record.
  5. Gamble on someone like Brett Anderson in FA - low salary, high incentives if he stays healthy. It could turn out to be a Rich Harden situation where he never sees the field as a Twin, but they need to do something. Improve the bullpen and C. Move on from Centeno / Suzuki and make a play for someone like Castro, Wieters. Trade Dozier for SP help. What's Falvey's track record in the international market? The Twins have never been in on signing Cuban free agents before. Could he change that?
  6. I've seen enough of Tracy Claeys running this program. There was a sliver of hope that Kill would be the guy to take the program to the next level... Claeys is certainly not the guy to do that. They're going to have to massively overpay a Les Miles type to come on board. Or throw another dart for a coach at a smaller school (maybe the NDSU coach?) and cross fingers it works. As far as the game yesterday, the offense was abysmal. It's borderline criminal to have Leidner throw 33 passes, and only give the ball to Brooks 10 times. Embrace who you are, a heavy run team, and give Brooks/Williams the damn ball.
  7. Not sure what you mean by real value? Teams and fans alike target top 10 organization prospects in trade proposals. He just turned 22 years old today. There's still plenty of value for Kohl Stewart today.
  8. We don't know if Stewart will develop into an MLB pitcher. He still has value for this organization. That value may be including him in a trade for a better player. If that's the case, works for me.
  9. It appears the shows that I'll be sticking with this fall are Modern Family, Designated Survivor, and The Good Place.
  10. This had to be the shortest conference call of the year for the Twins Daily team... Seth: "Thanks for jumping on the call guys. We need to get our votes together for best pitcher of the year. Thoughts?" Everyone simultaneously: "Ervin." Seth: "Great! I'll get on it. Thanks guys."
  11. Big fan of LaMonte Wade. His approach at the plate drawing more walks than strikeouts should help him immensely as he moves up in the organization.
  12. Who had the most correct this season where they can change their title to "Nostradamus 2016"?
  13. FYI John, Gleeman's microphone was cutting in and out really bad on this particular episode. It was really tough to listen to when he was fading in and out.
  14. "Through 162 games, the Twins trailed in 139 of them. In 86% of the games they played this season, Minnesota was losing at some point." This stat sticks out as mind blowing to me. Wow. I wonder how many times it was a result of the bullpen blowing a lead?
  15. Brock, I was searching Vikings Journal on iPad/iPhone last night and earlier today. It's been redirecting me to a spam site where "I've won a Free iPad!" with no back tab to return to VJ. Using Safari on the apple products. So far it's worked well on a PC.
  16. If we can envision a scenario where Molitor is let go by June/July next season, then let's cut bait right now. Let Falvey bring in the staff he feels is a good fit for the new philosophy/culture he's trying to implement in the organization.
  17. It's the circle of life for Gophers football. New coach comes in, and patience is preached because they're back to square 1. That coach gives the program some hope by winning 8-9 games by year 3. When they're supposed to take the next step to being a division contender, the team crumbles. Back to square 1. The schedule couldn't have been set up more in the Gophers favor to take the next step as a program. It will be a damn shame if its another 6-8 win season.
  18. This is what confuses me too. The reports from Seth / others say he was throwing upper 90s in AAA and when he was with the Red Sox. Why are we only seeing 93-95 every outing?
  19. Letting this marinate in the barrel 7 months is only going to make it taste better!
  20. There's room for 3 of you here There's a couch, a love seat, and a blow up queen mattress. One rough thing about living close to the action is it's expensive for not a ton of room... BUT, with how many beers we drink, anything suffices as a bed, right?!
  21. That would have been great! Listening to "Creep" for free would have been worth it. They do a good job of promoting up and coming artists at this festival. I have no doubt that some of these bands playing at the free shows will be known in a year or 2. There's a lot of musical talent down here this weekend. Last year I was at a bar, and Ludacris played an impromptu show just because he was drinking there too!
  22. Honestly it was the best weather of the year here in Austin. 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. This type of weather reminds me why I moved out of Minnesota!
  23. The headliner tonight is Radiohead, but that one requires a wristband to attend. Wish I could remember the name of the band I saw around 5 PM... That was about 5 beers ago. They had a woman lead singer who killed it on stage. More of an alt rock flavor to them.
  24. It's been an interesting afternoon. Our office / the rest of the neighborhood had the power shut down at 3 PM. The assumption is because ACL music festival is in town this weekend... We got out at that time, and went to a couple of free music shows this evening!
