  1. I enjoy the conversations you had with the players; great stuff. Chuckled out loud when I read AJ Achter's comments on the Gophers and the NIT.
  2. I missed it. Who's the middle infielder who put up a .390 OPB?
  3. I think you're so high you'd better land'er. Sorry, I really am. No, really, his stats so far look great. Also, I see that his friend from ABQ, Blake Swihart (same age as Garver but didn't go to college) is the #1 rated catcher in the minors at this time. Perhaps the Twins need to draft a catcher with their first pick in 2015?
  4. I can't get my head around a lot of Sabermetrics stuff, but I can visualize "IS%" (percentage of inherited runners scored). The Twins relief staff in 2014 allowed 31% of inherited runners to score (league average 28%), which was 22nd in the entire MLB. And another one I can get my head around is SV% (Save %). The Twins saved 66% of their tries (league average 69%), good for 20th in MLB. I don't know what to make of this little input, but it's interesting (to me). I was hoping to show that Perkins was performing poorly, which he was, but his Save% was 83 (not great, but okay).
  5. I have come around to believing Mauer is going to be moved to the outfield. There may be no chatter about this from The Twins but they resisted for years any mention of any possibility of moving him to first base, too.
  6. I had some pictures framed once, and they did a 7 out of 10 good job, above league average.
  7. Who on the 2015 coaching staff is an expert in catching, or was a catcher? I don't know the answer. Not being snarky. Anyone?
  8. I think Jordan Schafer will bad lead-off a few times this year. Who knows, maybe a lot. He has an incredible ability to steal bases. Who knows if he can hit well enough. But I'm hoping he can.
  9. I curse the strike-shortened year of 1994. Kirby was on pace to hit 30 HRs, and knock in 160 RBI.
  10. RE BABIP: Burdi's was .406. We're supposed to accept that this means he was unlucky, but couldn't it also mean that batters, when they did connect with his fast ball, laced it around the diamond with impunity?
  11. It looks like I've come onto this thread a day late, so if anyone's still reading, hello. The one thing that irks me is the sheer number of pitching changes that occur, on average, in major league baseball games. This is a fairly modern phenomenon and it's getting "worse" year after year. Baseball has made all kind rules over the years to make the game better. How about limiting the number of relief pitchers that can be used in a game? I hope the Commissioner thinks about it. It wasn't a "problem" that needed to addressed 30 years ago, but it needs to be addressed now. I did some research last summer: Here is an example. in 2013, 2.9 relievers were used by each team per game. In 1973, 1.37 relievers were used by each team per game. In other words, in 40 years the use of relief pitchers has literally more than doubled.
  12. If it wasn't for the game threads I couldn't get through a game. They're funny to read and participate in.
  13. Actually both his parents were ballet dancers. Maybe the Twins want to bring in the dancing German crowd to the ball park.
  14. It looks like the Sox are pushing Rodon too fast. He needs a good year at AAA, if not another. I may be wrong, of course.
  15. The Millers played at Metropolitan Stadium from 1956 through 1960, which means Yaz and Gene Mauch called the Met home.
  16. John, Is that Midway Stadium, in St. Paul? And the Millers played at Nicollet Park, which was built long before the Twins were a glint in anyone's eye, so what competing stadiums are you referring to? Or is the Met in Bloomington the Minneapolis stadium? (I sound stupider with each sentence I type!)
  17. Here's a bookend for you. I was a security guard (Simms) in 1981, the Twins last year at the Met. A young Hrbek is basically all I remember.
  18. I would like to see Meyer show up as our savior this year, but his WHIP at AAA last year was 1.4. Surely, even though he's 25, he needs another year trying to figure out the walk problem, which seems only to have gotten somewhat worse. On the other hand, if Meyer were as good as Nolan Ryan (career walk rate of 4.7!) we could live with it. (I just saw that Nolan Ryan never won a Cy Young award, though he lead the league in strike outs 12 times. I did not know that.)
  19. I ran Baerga's Facebook page through two online translators (my Spanish is weak), and near the end he writes, "Above all, thanks to the three pillars of this native sports team: Kenny Vargas, Wicho Figueroa and Martin Maldonado; your example and professionalism taught us to [do things the right way?].
  20. Rumor has it that Hamburger is a real hot dog, but that his fast ball has a lot of mustard on it. Odds are he'll wind up sandwiched between starter and closer, a 7th inning man. Sorry to have wasted your time ...
  21. I think signing Hughes to a contract extension should be the top priority. We have an ace, let's keep him. (Or trade him down the line, like Oakland always does).
