  1. What I can't get over is why any team would consider trading a healthy experienced MLB starter for a minor league reliever on the DL for at least a year with Tommy John surgery. It just doesn't make any sense. I can't help but think the Braves were only throwing chum into the water in the hope of creating a feeding frenzy. Step 1) negotiate an awful deal. Step 2) leak said starter giveaway to the press. Step 3) listen to offers from all the teams who think the Atlanta front office has just lost their minds. Step 4) pick the deal you like best (which will probably wind up being nothing like Burdi for Garcia).
  2. I can't help but think they are limiting Romero's innings so they can bring him up later this season. Probably September.
  3. I don't have a problem with it. He'll have a better defense behind him then when he was in New York. I don't see why he can't put up better numbers in Minnesota than he did with the Mets.
  4. They were the better team after 6 innings. Up to the 6th, not so much. Before that you have a team that was leading or close to it in all three games. Once again, you are giving the Astros way to much credit and not nearly enough to the Twins and the division they play in.
  5. I think you're giving the Astros waaaaaay too much credit. Look at what they've been padding out their record and building up their confidence with all season. I mean, what if the Twins got to play the A's, Angels and Rangers as much as they do, I'll bet we'd look pretty studly too. I also think back on that 11 run inning our bullpen served up last May and can't help but wonder how that series may have played out had the bullpen been better. My next pet peeve, is how little respect most of us give to the other teams in the central, because, you know, the Twins are in the central and so the central must suck, right? 4 of the last 5 AL pennant winners came from the central and that includes 2015's world champs. Cleveland has a 5-1 record against Houston and KC is 4-3. That doesn't sound unbeatable to me. I don't think this team is nearly as far away as most want to believe and I don't think they have to give up nearly as much as people want to believe to make a serious run at the post season. I definitely think the team should be buyers (but not renters - except for Neshek because he was one of my favorite players when he was here). They should be actively looking at cellar dweller rosters for players they think will help the team. They should especially be looking for salary dumps with multiple years left on their contracts. Make a few low ball offers and see what happens. Salary dump = don't wanter seller = real bargains. The only thing I would be mad about Neshek and Hand would be if the team didn't at least try to make a trade. Neshek sounds like a for sure salary dump and could probably be had for very little. Just because other teams are interested doesn't mean they're offering anything worth while. They're middle relievers for crying out loud! Ain't nobody out there is going to be trading their best and brightest for a middle reliever. Stop with the Gordon and Stewart talk already. This is doable and the team shouldn't have to give up any player that fits into their immediate future to pull it off.
  6. I think a professional football team with doves has it's moniker has potential.
  7. It's impossible to spell punishment without a "pun." I'm not sayin', I'm just, you know sayin'. It's one of those observation type things.
  8. I just saw it on MLB Trade Rumors: Wilk DFA'd to make room for Busenitz.
  9. From what I can tell, he is firm in his intent to stay a gator for another year. It would most likely be a waste of a pick.
  10. Round 16: Another pitcher. I can't help but wonder who will be catching all these guys?
  11. I wouldn't be too hard on him. Guys are on the wavier wire for a reason. At least he's trying stuff. Hopefully, the team can work out a deal for some help.
  12. It's working just fine for me. The Twins just took Jared Akins at the top of the 13th. The draft is really moving along today.
  13. I've never had a doubt about Buxton ever. The Twins have had some amazing center fielders over the years, but I don't recall anybody so consistently making the plays he does. His average has been slowly creeping upwards too. He still chasing the outside stuff a bit too much, but not nearly as badly as he used to. They've moved him up a little bit a few times in the line up as well. I wouldn't mind seeing him lead off on days Dozier is sitting. I would be curious to find out how he hits when he doesn't have to spend the first half hour of the game thinking about his first at bat.
  14. Ditto that. 4% would give them an extra half million or so to spend on top of the slot, plus anything else they might have left over.
  15. Call me a homer if you want (I'm sure there is a little of that going on), but the local kid was a legit first rounder. Instead, the team went with a Canadian pitcher ranked 101. That was another disappointment for me. Even if they saved a ton of money, I can't help but think they could have gotten themselves a home town discount on the local kid, so there is still a chance they would have just as much money to go after the college bound prospects.
  16. Exactly! I know the team has picked pitchers in the first round before, but Greene has the raw stuff to be something spectacular. A seventeen year old with a triple digit fastball. His floor is lights out bullpen arm. And if that didn't work out for whatever reason, they could have moved him back to the infield. Cincy couldn't snatch him up fast enough. They're probably pretty giddy with themselves in the Reds draft room right now. I can't help but think we're all going to be watching this kid rise and regretting this decision for a long time.
  17. The Twins lack of front line starters is because they never draft them. Once again, they went for the toolsy everyday player. Nobody thinks these guys are going to help the current team, but it would have been nice to have a top of the rotation guy in the system.
  18. I would LOVE to have Neshek back in the bullpen! He was one of my all time favorite Twins players. I'm also a huge fan of side armers.
  19. Has anybody heard anything about Perkins' progress? Last I heard, he was throwing off a mound and facing live batters. How's his velocity? Has anybody said anything about a possible return?
  20. It seems to me that Twins fans don't believe they deserve nice things. Whenever a player breaks through and starts looking like a star, they want to trade them "while their value is still high." And now they have a shot at a real flame thrower and it's "oof da, so much risk! Let's go for something more sensible." Middle of the rotation will always be available via free agency and trades, intentionally drafting somebody that projects that way with the number one pick is just plain dumb. And since I believe that 20+ million a year for 6+ years for a former Cy Young winner is almost as bad, that doesn't leave a whole lot of other options. The best way to acquire an ace is to draft it and develop it. If Greene projects as that kind of elite arm, then that is who the team should go for. It's not like college players come with some kind of warranty. They may be more developed, but they also have more miles on them.
  21. I'm tired of the penny wise pound foolish approach of baseball that was such a trademark of the Ryan era. I keep seeing the team drafting safe and the prospects don't seem to pan out any more than the upside picks. I miss having a bonafide ace. It's unlikely the team will ever spend the money needed to acquire one via free agency, so the draft is the next best thing. I want real upside. Just draft Greene and be done with it.
