  1. Well, you complained about having to watch certain players, so I responded. No disrespect intended.
  2. Your starting assumption is that average provides zero value. That's debatable. As others have said, below average (according to one metric) can still provide value.
  3. Well yeah, I am concerned about a lot of their young bullpen arms. I guess I was trying to point out that your Chargois' future in the bullpen in comes off as a disingenuous justification of a Dozier-JDL trade that clearly would not have been in the Twins' favor.
  4. Not more enamored with another year of Dozier than what? Having a perennially injured AAA pitcher? That's more enamoring to you? Because from all of the reports and "insider" accounts we heard, that was the alternative to Dozier. You may wish otherwise, but from what we know, that's what the offer was.
  5. Are you suggesting that age discrimination should factor into Falvey's hiring decisions?
  6. I was hoping they would keep him on for next year, but I can't help but feel a little consternation about Mollie being the manager for another three.
  7. It's hard for me to imagine anyone who can really compete with Nishioka in this contest.
  8. "Will this production continue through the summer or is regression inevitable?" I think that we are seeing regression with Mauer. The past couple of years he was performing well below his career averages pretty much across the board, but now he's performing much closer to what's been his norm.
  9. I personally don't care if Sano is a butcher out there. I find it hard to believe that his defense will cost nearly as many runs as his bat will produce. But maybe I'm wrong..
  10. Santana's 2015 line in 277 PAs: .215/.241/.291; .532 OPS, 44 OPS+, 11.3 K/BB, -2.2 bWAR Nunez's 2015 line in 204 PAs: .282/.327/.431, .758 OPS, 104OPS +, 2.4 K/BB, 1.5 bWAR Are you sure about that statement? Even if Santana improves to somewhere between his 2014 and 2015 seasons, we'd be pretty lucky for him to come close to Nunez's production from this past season. I know that Nunez put up better numbers in 2015 than he has in any other year, but he's never come close to demonstrating the futility that Danny Santana (who I might add always seems to look frightened when he's playing) did this year. (Edited to add Nunez's OPS+)
  11. I honestly think that Berrios is their "ace." Call it blind faith, but I think he'll pan out. I also think that the Twins need to pour their resources into building an elite bullpen. Easier said than done, but recent years have shown that that's how teams win in the playoffs. Get ahead after 5 or 6 and shut the door.
  12. A couple more wins would definitely have proven useful at this point in the year, but I'm sure there are a few wins that the local squeezed out that has other teams asking what if.
  13. Just curious what "debacle" you're talking about. He's played all of 11 games and was showing improvement at the plate on top of stellar defense before getting injured (which itself does not constitute a debacle). Cut the kid some slack and allow him to learn the major league game before dismissing his performance.
  14. That probably has to do with Buxton being a super prospect and having the potential to become a generational talent. No such thing could have ever been said about Hicks. Apples and oranges.
  15. "Statistical analysis isn't advanced knowledge, it's mainstream" Comments like this make me shudder. You don't just "learn" statistical analysis by reading the Economist (or TD, for that matter). It takes years of studying and hard work, and even then the professionals are still constantly reading, learning, and updating their tool kits.
  16. Why is it that Jordan Schafer, of all people, gets the respect of a major league starter when in his 1,100+ MLB at bats he's done nothing to prove that he even comes close to having earned that title, while guys like Mauer (i.e. arguably the best offensive catcher of all time, or at least the past 40 years) and Arcia (a guy with a legitimate 30+ HR power and .750+ OPS potential who is less than 25 years old) are consistently treated as liabilities? I just don't understand the sensibilities that are often exhibited on this site.
  17. Jordan Schafer is not an enigma. He's a well known commodity and has demonstrated that he's nothing close to a major league starter. The only reason that he's even being included in a conversation as a fourth OF (let alone a GD starter) is that he plays for the Twins.
  18. "John – ..220/.290/.400 (.690) with 15 doubles and 12 HR" Just curious how Arcia could slug .400 with only 15 doubles and 12 home runs. Are we assuming his season is done by June?
  19. The thought of Schafer hitting .250 or better over the course of a season just seems fanciful.
  20. I guess I thought that he already duplicated (and improved upon) his production last year from 2013. There's always risk when signing a player to a contract, but I think Dozier is a much better known entity than a lot of people here give him credit for.
  21. Sorry if this was brought up in an earlier comment, but one thing to remember is that with Sano's arm he can afford to play back a bit, giving himself a little more time to react and get to balls. That could help lessen any negative impacts that could come from some lack of athleticism required to play third.
  22. Care to explain that? How does Arcia not hit at least 20-25?
