  1. Any trade for a Lucroy type will take a lot of "pixie dust" But if they do make trades it should be for guys with some years still left on their contract.
  2. I think what this unexpected winning may do is force the Twins to decide which prospects are really and realistically a part of the future. (if they want to make some sort of deadline trade). Is Arcia really a part of the future now what about Pinto. Those two are guys who have played for the big club and have had successes and failures yet are still back in AAA. Other players like them as well could be dangled if they want to improve this years team without hindering future teams.
  3. Watch his swing and look at his stature. He reminds me of a young Shawn Green.
  4. When he is healthy he is still one of the best shortstops in baseball. I'm sure the Rockies would point that out in trade negotiations. 5/$100M would be ok for the next 2-3 years. But $20m for his 34 and 35 years of age would be a killer and would most likely be right in the time the Twins will be solid contenders would like to spend some money.
  5. I remember that double and if I recall it was the one where Stewart seemed to think the wall was going to there about two steps sooner than it was and the ball dropped in as he was preparing to run into a wall that wasn't quite there yet. Damn Yankees . . .
  6. I would straight up swap him for Duensing today. I know that leaves Thompson as the only lefty out of the pen but I would rather have Meyer in there getting major league reps. Let him finish the season in the pen and give him a spot start if needed and then one more shot next year to start. If that doesn't work, you got a hard throwing bullpen arm.
  7. a 3-4 starter? I know he isn't a big strikeout guy but I think he deserves a little more credit than that. I would say he is a very solid 3 and a borderline #2 starter. On this team he is definitely a 2.
  8. I was watching the Video of Kerby Camacho (great name baseball name BTW!) and really liked his left handed swing. His RH swing looked a little slow. Do teams ever have players quit switch hitting and go to one side or the other permanently? Not that I am a scout nor do I claim to be able to differentiate the difference between a 1st round talent and a 30th round talent from a video, but he seems have a quick throwing motion while catching and a silky smooth left handed swing. I like it.
  9. Outside of having to get him on the 40 man roster I have no issue with starting him out at FM as a reliever and see how he does in 4-5 appearances. If he is good move him to Chattanooga. If he can take care of AA hitters pretty easily then if a time comes in August or September and the Twins are still in contention and need a lefty reliever, give him a taste of the Majors. Then next spring stretch him out in Spring Training and start out at Fort Myers or Chattanooga depending on well he does in the spring. Give him 2 years to figure out starting and hopefully have him in bigs starting in late 2017 or 2018.
  10. I found video from the game . . . . Unfortunately the cameraman must have left before the 4th inning because Buxton's inside the park home run is not in the video. His double is on it though. http://www.wdef.com/content/sports/localsports/story/Lookouts-and-Biloxi-Combine-For-29-Hits-as/L10QWwi8Qk6BFnuLK1hpvA.cspx
  11. Any luck on that Buxton Inside the Parker yet? I've searched the web and went to the Chatanooga ABC news affiliate site and only found a story with no video. Maybe they will add video to the story soon: http://www.newschannel9.com/sports/features/headlines/stories/lookouts-lose-extra-inning-2224.shtml
  12. Ok, makes sense why he doesn't make sense in the top 10 anymore . . . thanks
  13. I had read a few places recently Funkhauser is a top 5 pick. I watched some video of him and he seems like a guy who would fit perfectly into what the Twins are trying to build. And he projects as a #2 starter supposedly. He throws hard 92-95 has near perfect mechanics and has some pretty nasty secondary pitches, especially his slider which doesn't appear to break until it is about 5 feet from the plate. I know the Twins are probably going to take best available, but why not keep bringing in young arms with upside. If they happen to get into a very good problem and have too many great young pitchers and not enough rotation spots, you can trade them pieces you need.
  14. I consider myself a big Twins fan, and have been even during the past few down years. That being said I found it difficult to watch them the prior four years. When I did watch I just assumed they were going to lose. Now however I can't wait to watch games every night and actually go in with an assumption they are going to win. I can only imagine the players themselves having similar thoughts. After losing regularly you get a losing mentality, however the same can be said for winning. Lets hope they keep rolling along all summer.
  15. I think Gonsalves is going to have good chance to a be very good Major League pitcher. He sits around 91 MPH with his fastball now. If he can get that up 1 or 2 MPH (possible given he is still developing and getting stronger) his fastball would be considered a "Plus" pitch. His secondary pitches also seem to be pretty nasty from what I have read and add in his game acumen and he could be something special. Time will tell though.
  16. I think a stint in the pen to work on things might help. Gain confidence, get mechanics worked out in 1 and 2 inning stints a few times a week in real game situations instead of once a week. Can get repeatable reps that way and hopefully lead to consistency. I don't think a demotion would do the trick because he will obviously blow away AA and high A hitters. But that won't solve the underlying problem. Unless that is simply a confidence thing right now.
  17. I find it funny that many are prepared to trade Plouffe, a proven MLB player, for an unproven prospect or two and replace his proven abilities with another prospect who has not played even 1 MLB game yet. I think we need to settle down and make sure Sano can handle ML pitching as well as play 3rd base before we unload Ploufee. Personally, I would prefer to keep Plouffe. He is a top 10 3rd baseman. Sano may end up being 40 HR guy, but he may not be a 3rd baseman.
  18. Regarding Buxton's last 10 games: It seems like he is striking out less and walking a decent amount during this mini slump he is in. Any reports on if he is making solid contact but hitting it right at people or is it weak contact and popouts, etc.?
  19. I think (hope) that Meyer's role eventually is front-end starter. However, if he is having mechanical, confidence issues would it be a good idea to have him work through that temporarily in the bullpen? As a starter he only gets to pitch once every 5-6 days against real competition and he if pitches poorly he is out of the game and has to think about for all those off days ruining confidence. As cerebral of a game as baseball is, thinking has gotten lots of guys into trouble. If he can pitch out of the pen for a few weeks he can pitch an inning or two every other day and some consecutive days and maybe get a little rhythm with his mechanics as well as building confidence on successful outing and having much shorter "thinking time" after bad outing. That is what I would like the Twins to at least try. Working on mechanics in side sessions and actually facing real live hitters in a game are much different. So get him as much live game action as possible to have him regain whatever it is lost and let him repeat it over and over for a while. Then put him back in the rotation.
  20. Bonnes, Who are in your list of top 10 stadiums? Actually maybe I will start a thread on this in the forum. I love baseball stadiums and talking to people about their favorites and why.
  21. I personally think Hicks is ready to be promoted. However, both the Twins and fans need to temper expectations to a degree. He shouldn't be expected to put up his AAA stats in the Majors. If you look at his trend in his career in the minors he usually gets moved up when he excels at a level then seemingly struggles a bit before adjusting and playing better. That said this is by far his best season to date and he is playing at the highest level he has played outside of the 2 short stints with the Twins. Perhaps he has "figured it out". Either way, if he can come up here hit .270/.330/.400 i would say that is a great success and something to build on as well as an improvement over what is currently in CF for the Twins. If he comes up and hit a .200/.250/.300 or something with regular playing time it may be time to move on, but give him enough time to sink or swim.
  22. The one thing I want to continue to watch is both the bullpen and the use of it. During that 1-6 stretch to start the season the bullpen was atrocious. Now, they seem to pitching very well. I haven't looked at the peripherals, but is this an anomaly or are some of these guys actually pretty good. Boyer was hitting 96 MPH on the gun yesterday with some nasty movement. If the starting pitchers can continue to pitch decently like they have and get into the 6th and 7th inning it makes it a lot easier on the pen. I think they are big key, and if they do come back to earth there are a few good arms most of us would love to see up here soon.
  23. I'm of the belief if you are good enough to play they will find a spot for you. If Plouffe continues to improve and be a very solid 3rd baseman and hitter, he will stick. Sano hasn't proven anything other than he can demolish high A pitching and can hit homeruns in AA but so far this year has not done much else (he broke out a bit last night though). After 4 or 5 years of having very little talent, it will be a good thing for the Twins to finally have multiple good players at the same positions.
