It’s Time to Turn the Page on the Bomba Squad
mnfireman replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Keep Rocco, get rid of Astudillo.... -
I think I would move Hill and Thielbar up, and drop Donaldson behind them. It is kind of hard to separate expectations from performance, but Donaldson did not perform enough when he was on the field. Nothing was expected out of Hill other than to be the 4/5 starter, which he filled rather nicely, many other teams would have taken his starts and been very happy.

Late to the roster party, work got in the way!! I think Wade over Kirilloff would have been a better call, but either way i think its okay. Austudillo being on the roster though can't be overlooked. He doesn't bring anything that can't be covered by somebody else. We should be used to this though, Gardy kept Punto around for no reason other than "he battles his tail off every night".

Week in Review: Bumps in the Road
mnfireman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Donaldson's fire, something the Twins have been missing for awhile. I don't know if there is any connection, but it was the same umpiring crew over the weekend as the White Sox series, very little complaining by players or fans.- 30 replies

MIN 4, CHC 0: Twins Down Darvish, Shutout Cubs
mnfireman replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
ESPN has ZERO Twins love, the original game was supposed to be Yankees - Red Sox for the 1,000,000th time. If the Sox didn't suck, we'd be waiting another 10 years to see the Twins on Sunday night, which is fine with me because I cannot stand A-Rod in the booth. He always has to turn the conversation to himself. -
MIN 5, CHW 1: Bullpen Shines as Twins Beat Giolito
mnfireman replied to John Kelsey's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only time I think they should have used small ball last night was when Adrianza hit into a DP. I felt Baldelli should have had him bunting in that situation, even though it would have been lefty-lefty with Avila against Detwiler. -
CHW 3, MIN 1: Twins Leave 15 Runners On Base
mnfireman replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree wit the statement that the Sox tried to give the game away. But the Twins DID give the game away. The Sox have destroyed left handed pitching this year, so a close game with the team your fighting for first place with is not a good time to try to fix your left handed bullpen ace. The bats have been coming awake lately, but last night was tough. Who had odds on all 9 Twins batters struggling? Should be an anomaly, but who knows, this is 2020!! Go get 'em tonight boys. -
I did a quick google search and found no results, thank you for taking the time to find and post these!!

https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/more-than-dozen-children-rescued-georgia-sex-trafficking-bust/OHEHJUSWWRBQRHQMBQPGQPORAI/ I have not heard one professional athlete make a statement on this subject (human trafficking), but they are all over the news supporting BLM.

Miguel Sanó Tests Positive for COVID-19
mnfireman replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm thinking MLBPA is going to recommend no 2020 season. Lots of players testing positive and more deciding not to play, just a matter of time.....- 45 replies

Not a fan of re-alignment unless its to even out the Leagues (whether its 2 expansion teams or back to a 16 and 14 format). Anyways, here's my thoughts: 15 games against each division opponent = 60 games 2 games against each interleague opponent = 10 games 4 games against each AL East & AL West opponent = 40 games Total = 110 games Eliminate as many "unnecessary" off-days in the Post-Season (both wild card games on same day, all teams play each game day, all teams travel same travel day, etc...)

The Red Sox true colors showed through. They are feeeling the fan base pressure and want more from the Twins. I say NO. The Twins deal was with the Dodgers, not the Red Sox. No new prospects, players or money from the Twins. The Sox fleeced the Twins by signing Ortiz and think they can do it again.

Boston had to have done their due diligence and known how Graterol was preparing for the upcoming season (especially since the Twins announced it). I don't think it has anything to do with injury, injury history, etc... as Graterol pitched at the end of last season and in the playoffs (touching 100+). I think it is cold feet on return (no immediate starter to fill Price's spot) and angry fan base (trading Betts). Los Angeles and Minnesota should stand firm and let Boston catch all the flak for trying to renege on a trade (from the fans, the commissioners office and the player's union).

You cannot force a player to sign where he doesn't want to play. Donaldson seems to be using the Twins interest to jack up the $$ of the offer from the team he really wants to play for. That is his (agents) right to do. Too bad the Twins fell into the trap and we, the fans got excited about the possibility of him playing here (like the other players, I don't think there was ever a chance of him signing here). Time to move on.

Article: KC 8, MIN 4: OH THE HUMANITY!
mnfireman replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Dick 'N' Bert said the team has 11 relievers currently on the big league roster, by my count at least 5 of these have no business being in the majors, expanded rosters or not. And as far as using an opener, DON'T!! The bullpen is far and away the worst part of a bad team, though I guess we wouldn't have to worry about them blowing a lead if they give up 4 or 5 in the 1st inning.- 25 replies

Article: Hey Joe, What's Next?
mnfireman replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My belief is that he will either re-sign with the Twins or retire. He was born and raised in the metro, opted to sign with the team instead of going away to college, signed his big contract before hitting free agency and is raising a family here. He also doesn't seem the type to chase numbers or money. I believe if he doesn't have a contract by or before early next off-season he will announce his retirement rather than being forced to retire because of no free agent offers (look how slowly free agency is moving along this year with all the young front office guys and the sabermetrics). He then joins Molitors staff and is groomed to become the teams manager (JK, he might join the front office, but probably decides to play golf and raise kids). -
Another thing to remember about a Dozier extension, Pohlad still loves Joe Mauer, like it or not (I like it), and another contract for him may signify an end to Dozier's time in MN. The 1B market that year is weak and I don't think the Twins want to move Sano (just my thoughts, I have no idea) unless Mauer leaves or retires.

How close is the next 2B? Who is the next 2B? if the brain trust thinks that the next 2B is ready in 2020, offer Dozier the qualifying offer, if he takes it great, if not, hope the kid is ready or put Adrianza out there as a stop gap. Also remember that Dozier, Mauer, and Santana are all free agents after 2018 (team has option on Santana), lots of freedom to build this team.

Really! Santana over Rosario. C'mon Molly, how about we play the guys with a future here instead of another failed Twins SS prospect who will be out of baseball....oh never mind we got him until 2020. -
Article: Urgency To Trade Plouffe Growing
mnfireman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"A day late and a dollar short".....sums up the Twins dealings (or lack thereof) with Plouffe and Dozier. Except it is a year late, well 56 games late and million$ short. The only way to get any return is to package them, either individually or together, with Nolasco, Hughes and Jepson, and maybe even Ervin Santana (though I think he is a better rebound candidate than the other 5).Then bring on the kiddie parade and let them take their lumps (can't play too much worse than .286 baseball with the youngster's and I won't get so p****d off about veteran's giving the games away). -
