Agree completely. Many times rookies do well in their first outing because the other team is not familiar with their "stuff". It's the 2nd or 3rd time around against that same team that the pitcher needs to make the adjustments.
Thanks for putting together this list. I enjoy these whenever someone takes the time to do it. A few comments: 1) Even with your criteria of using performance over tools I would add Felix Jorge and Stuart Turner to your list. Jorge just has too much upside even if he is very, very young and quite a ways off from surfacing with the big club. Turner might be the best defensive catcher in the organization. 2) Agree completely with Rosario. He will most likely be the best minor league trade chip we have and that we would be willing to give up. He seems to be blocked by other prospects and players we currently have on the roster. I would definitely wait to trade him until he starts putting it all together (which I think he will). His value should only increase. 3) I think Polanco and Sano will have a ETA before 2016. A lot of that depends on whether Sano proves healthy over the winter. He'll probably start out in AA or AAA next season and arrive mid-season.
Maybe should have made the move yesterday after the game. Don't see the reasoning behind taking a player (Colabello, for arguments sake) all the way out to Oakland just to send him back to Indy. Twins starter for Sat. still TBD. When did Kris Johnson pitch last? I'm with you, got a bad feeling about this.
Yes, it'll be fun to see the competition between Garver and Turner. I'll bet Swim turns into a Chris Hermann clone. Play a little corner outfield, a little catcher. His versatility will be his ticket. You're right though, he'll need to develop a little pop.
Now that the minor league seasons are winding down maybe it's time to start re-assessing prospect status. Name 2 or 3 guys who started the season as legit major league prospects but because of sub-par play this year are in danger of losing that status. Conversely, name a couple guys that started the season off the radar but have vaulted themselves into consideration to surface with the big league club someday.
What level does Nick Gordon start at next season? Cedar Rapids right away, or extended spring training before E-Town and then a C,R. promotion mid-season?
I realize it's early in their careers, but I like the looks of this draft class! Cederoth, Burdi, Reed, Gordon, English, Murphy, Steele, LeBlanc,Curtiss all doing well. Just need to get 4th rounder Ken Clay going.
Does anyone know if there's such a thing as an "injury settlement" in the major league baseball CBA if a player calls it a career in the middle of a contract? I know there is in football. Thinking in terms of Pelfrey.
