Article: Launching Into A New Statistical Era
terrydactyls replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Did it really take analytical studies to determine that hitting a groundball into a shift is not optimal? My two-day old great nephew could tell you that (if he could talk).- 20 replies

Is the LeBlanc strikeout statistic correct? Five strikeouts in 24 innings? Yikes!

To paraphrase George Jefferson: "Movin' on up to the Big Leagues to that big cup o' coffee in the sky" It's about time that there is some change to the Twins bullpen that doesn't include members of AARP. Lots of good young talent. Let's get them all up and see what we have.

Article: What Went Wrong For Ryan Pressly?
terrydactyls replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No offense Parker, but if some blogger in the Upper Midwest can figure this out, then why the heck can't highly paid professional baseball coaches/managers do it? Aren't analytics supposed to be a huge factor (pardon me for sounding like Trumpelstilskin) in the new and improved front office? Pathetic. -

Article: Eight Weeks In: Twins Trends And Tidbits
terrydactyls replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here are some people in the Twins organization. Chattanooga Bullpen Randy Rosario, ERA 1.90. WHIP 0.93 Luke Bard, ERA 3.63. WHIP 1.43 Mason Melotakis, ERA 2.37. WHIP 0.89 John Curtiss, ERA 0.00. WHIP 1.13 Rochester Bullpen Alan Busenitz, ERA 2.08. WHIP 0.78 D.J. Baxendale, ERA 3.48. WHIP 1.16 Trevor Hildenberg, ERA 2.33. WHIP 1.29 That's seven relief pitchers waiting for a chance in the majors. The Twins aren't going anywhere this year so let's see what these guys can do before trading away prospects. The solution may be inhouse.- 56 replies

Thanks. I think my senile citizen brain understands now. And to think I was in Finance for most of my working life. DUH!!! -

So if I have the 7th pick, I need to have pre-arranged agreements with about a dozen players to make it work? -
Article: Twins Daily Draft Preview
terrydactyls replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is there a " Draft Pool For Dummies" available anywhere? I do not understand all this "sign under slot" stuff. If I were the first overall pick, and I know that the first pick is assigned a $7.7M amount, why would I sign for less? Or have the Twins contacted the top 100 players on their draft board already and agreed to a signing amount? I am missing something. Please help. -
Article: Keith Law On The Twins Minor Leagues
terrydactyls replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Personally, I don't understand the angst about Jay going to the bullpen. If the Twins think that is where he will excel, then put him in the pen. And I don't care if he was a first round pick or a free agent. If the pen is the best place for him, then I'm glad he is there. And if he turns into the next Mariano Rivera, will you still think the Twins "wasted" a first round pick? Probably not.- 14 replies

If the Twins can go from a 59-win season to an 84-win season, that would be astronomical improvement. Personally, I like what the front office is doing (taking time to evaluate, make changes as needed - not just to appease Twins Daily commenters, look to the future, etc.). The Twins could be contenders in 2018 if a few more pieces are added. Enjoy what we have now and expect it to get better.

This is simple google searching that you could have done before making conclusory statements. Really??? You expect people to actually do a little research before they post their expert conclusions? Have you ever read Twins Daily comments?

That is an argument that needs to be preceeded by "in my humble opinion" because there is absolutely no way to prove (or disprove) either premise.

Article: Game Thread: Twins@Rangers 4/24/17 7:05PM
terrydactyls replied to Riverbrian's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Years ago, while working in Washington, D.C., I was sent to a conference in Dallas. I was alone and wasn't familiar with Dallas, so I asked one of the locals what there was to do in Dallas. He actually said to me, "Y'all could go to the book suppository." -

Article: Who Will Be Pitching Staff's Odd Man Out?

I apologize for the poorly written post above but it frustrates me that front offices make decisions on roster makeup and not the manager.- 102 replies

Article: Who Will Be Pitching Staff's Odd Man Out?
terrydactyls replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I guess I'm too old to understand the 21St century front office methods. I would have thought a front office would asemble the best players they could and let their manager do the best he can. But from what I read in TD articles and reader posts is that the front office dictates how many pitchers and how many hiters the team will carry. That makes no sense to me. Is there any purpose for having a manager? Let computers dictate all the moves.- 102 replies

Article: Paul Molitor's Opening Day Redemption
terrydactyls replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins won, didn't they? Judging from many of the comments, it seems like they got their butts kicked again. I'll have to look at the box score again to confirm whether or not they are undefeated and in first place.
