Hitting left-handed is an advantage in baseball, due to being closer to 1B than a R/H batter, having one's body going in to direction of 1B as the swing is completed and due to there being 75 % (plus or minus) right-handed pitches in the major leagues, which means that 75 % of pitches faced by a lefty stand to be from an easier to see R/H pitcher. I know lefty relievers are brought in to face lefty hitters, but with the relatively new requirements of a reliever facing 3 batters, that affects these stats some. Therefore I am happy the FO has obtained an abundance of L/H hitters. I'll close with this: Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Tris Speaker, Stan Musial, Barry Bonds, Rod Carew, Tony Gwyn, Mel Ott, Ichiro Suzuki all had something in common. Can you guess what it is?

That # 5 draft pick is an important pick this year. There will be some top- notch talent available this draft at # 5. The Twins will do a good job in evaluating the prospects and I expect the Twins to be cautious. If the Twins are not going to pay for an "Ace" SP and don't want to trade numerous top prospects for an "Ace" pitcher, then this is the only other way to get one. Yes, drafting a pitcher is risky, but what is the alternative to getting that one great pitcher, as opposed to getting more above average pitchers?

I enjoyed pretending with you. Thanks it was fun. Now Twins, let's get back to work. Time, as we all know is fleeting, and the most important day of the year is the present day.

The Downfall of Byung-Ho Park
tarheeltwinsfan commented on Luke Thompson's blog entry in Luke Thompson
This is just one of those things we'll never know. I wish him well in Korea. I hope he is happy and not filled with regret. It is not the ultimate goal in everyone's life to be a major league baseball player in the US. Nor should it be. -
Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Catcher
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nick, You hit the nail on the head. My Red Sox fan friends tell me that they loved Vazquez at catcher. The past stats tell me that Twins fans will too. We shall see. I am optimistic. -

ST Game Thread: Twins v Tigers and v Pirates

I was there too, and I agree with Squirrel. Gallo is a strong man, who I was against the Twins signing, and I stated so on TD. I have changed my mind after reading many of the posts and articles on TD and seeing his HR and really sharply hit liner past 1B today. In fact I had said in jest in a post the Gallo should bat leadoff, so his strikeout wouldn't kill a rally. I was wrong. I know he probably will strike out more than any of us like, but maybe not. I know think he would be a good leadoff hitter for the Twins, because he is a good, fast baserunner. It also looked like Gallo was asking Tommy Watkins, the 3B coach, if he could steal 2B at one point while Gallo was on 1B. -

Saw a lady 3 rows in front of me get hit right on top of her head with a foul ball popup behind the Twins' dugout. She bled profusely and was taken away by the medics. I hope she does OK with what will be staples or stitches. Hope she does not have a concussion. I don't know who got the ball. Got to pay attention at a ball- park and cover your head if you are not going to try to catch the ball. A little girl who sat in front of me with her mom, got so scared that they had to leave the game early. -

I was there today with my wife and two daughters. The Tiger pitcher was in trouble. He walked a batter and Gallo came up. The count was 3-1 and I knew the pitcher would throw a strike right over the plate so as not to walk a second straight batter. I told my daughters to watch this pitch because Gallo was going to smash it over the right field fence, and I pointed to the spot. He did. Now my daughters have a new- found respect for my superior baseball knowledge. -

Nice seat John. Will you be there Tuesday? Can I sit with you since I am a TD contributor? If not I will be behind the Twins dugout about 20 rows up. -

Who Is the Twins Biggest Rival for 2023?

The Twins should look at their opponent for that particular day as being their biggest rival. One day at a time, one game at a time, one win at a time.- 18 replies

I have enjoyed the audio/video reports from the fort and I'll be there for a week starting this Sunday. I'll be looking for John Boones walking around the stadium during the game, talking to himself. If I see John doing that, I'm going to jump in front of the camera to say hello to all you TD readers, er, watchers. By the way, somebody (cough, cough, Eddie Julien) contacted me and asked me to check on Jorge Polanco's status for him. I haven't seen where Polanco has played in a game yet. I may have missed it, if he did, but I have an excuse. I have been practicing walking around my house, recording into my phone, while the Twins have been playing. I'm in training for my spring training video reports from the fort.

2023 is a Big Season for Recent Top Picks
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins need to have better results in analyzing information and/or providing information about the 5th draft pick in this 2023 draft. Sabato and Cavaco have not performed well at all and I hope the Twins can learn some things from these drafts.- 15 replies

Or the Twins could take LSU pitcher/1B Paul Skenes at # 5 in the draft and have the second-best college pitcher in the draft and a power hitting 1B. Mark my words and mark them well, Paul Skenes is the next Ohtani.
