  1. I had to look at the calendar to make sure this wasn't some sick April Fool's day joke. I was not happy when they pulled him from the rotation before and was very much looking forward to seeing him as a starter this year. Best of luck to him in his rehab.
  2. I hope Rowson's results are better than his interviews. When first hired he basically only said that "each guy is different and I work with their strengths". Now the stated philosophy is "hit the ball hard". revolutionary.
  3. I would think Garver is the starter in Rochester. Molly is probably worried about a slow start out of the gate and impact on young psyches so start with Giminez as the Twins backup. This leaves Murphy in AAA so they mix and match there until somehing happens. #1 Twins play well enough that Giminez isn't needed for the vet stability angle. #2 One of the AAA catchers distinguish themselves to garner a call up. #3 Injury occurs
  4. Congrats Twins Daily!! I very much enjoy the profiles of individual minor leaguers, what they are working on, etc. Personally excited to be in the Fort for the 1st 2 ST games this year.
  5. Good article. I view this as - work on the technical in practice (individual weaknesses), and remember (simple) tendencies in the game. My 2 favorite personal memories of this: My only High School home run was off a pitcher that, unusually, started me off with a curveball in my first 2 at bats. So I looked curveball in the 3rd at bat. He threw 3 straight fastballs, only 1 for a strike - so in my mind the % chance of getting a curve is skyrocketing with each pitch. Pitch 4 went downtown. Amateur ball: pitcher was throwing 1st pitch FB's to all of our RH hitters - which no one seemed to notice but me (LH hitter). 2nd time thru the order, I'm in the hole, after the at-bat is over - I call the guy in front of me over and simply say "Guess first pitch curveball". It settled into the cornfield beyond the left field fence nicely.
  6. Thanks to all the writers and administrators of this site. It is one of my "home" pages and a necessary fix during the offseason. Just bought the Offseason Handbook - it will give me something to read while at the in-laws today (ha!) Have a great Thanksgiving all. Spring will be here before we know it. BB - The Jemmer
  7. As he's having issues throwing strikes I hope the Twins take an analytical approach. The longer his arm movement is the more possibility that something will be "off" resulting in a ball rather than strike (for those of you that are golfers - the difference between a short backswing and overly long backswing). I mean, look at some of his pitches - he is missing the strike zone in a massive way like a little leaguer. So - simplify the arm movement. Keep his hands and arm high through the motion. Don't allow the arm to drop down behind and under the back knee. Straight back, straight through to home. Start just playing catch - then move slowly to a full pitching motion. Just take a look at Bartolo's motion tonight - simple and very effective. A strike throwing machine.
  8. I think the Twins much have a former health insurance industry worker deciding whether to send guys out for MRI's. #rejected
  9. I'm curious how much a player like him is paid. Yes you get to play ball for a living, but whether he'll end up poor because he's not making any money, with no skills outside catching (and coaching) to fall back upon later in life would make this a dubious situation.
  10. I've been thinking that Berrios would be helped by tightening up his windup a bit. His arm swings very low and behind him during his windup. I'd wager a little less arm swing would improve his accuracy - hopefully without reducing speed or inducing arm problems.
  11. It was my first time seeing him in person so do not have a comparison on physical stature but what I noted (AA) was: big physical presence that to my eye was throwing in the 90's easy, was in control of the game and his emotions (unlike JT who came in late, gave up the tying run and was visibly distraught on the bench), and got into a groove after the 1st inning and was mowing down hitters. So, look at his stats this year: 24 innings for the lookouts; 0.96 WHIP, 38 innings for the Red Wings; 0.96 WHIP. Perhaps the physical size increase was a result of hard work in the offseason. Good for him, good for us.
  12. Saw Wheeler in Fort Myers this spring. Big boy. Big fastball. Lefthanded. Hope he gets a rotation shot within a year.
  13. It will be something if/when Engelb Vielma makes it. He is so small. Seeing him in Fort Myers this spring - my first thought was "He looks like an 8th grader". Would be quite an accomplishment.
  14. Wheeler is a stud - watched him throw a very solid game for AA in Fort Myers ST. Who doesn't need a big lefty in the rotation. When would you peg him to debut?? Also, Palka has been on fire since, what ? mid-March? great to see - hope he gets moved up a level soon.
  15. Watched JT in Florida. He can really bring it but, on the day I watched he was having trouble getting on top of his breaking pitch which led to giving up tie run. He was very despondent after the outing. I remember thinking that his arm slot was lower than I expected. I can see why he is one to watch.
  16. The thing that upsets me most about this recent revelation is that he hid the condition, performing poorly, and the Twins just missed the playoffs. Team first? "Hey Mollie, I'm not seeing the ball that well today, let's put Plouffe at first."
