Every message board should come with an "ignore user" function, and when activated posts by that person would not be visible. The filter should also make it so that person can't see your posts either. This would solve a lot of problems before they start.

Article: Arms Race: The Search For Young Starters
Doomtints replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Starting pitching is a dime a dozen as well, yet the Twins can't get it done. They need to figure out how to do it before they can do it, clearly. -
True, there isn't much patience at the moment. But who is to blame for that? I would expect fans to be critical in such a terrible season, even moreso after a string of bad seasons going back six years. And it's the same problems, over and over. It may seem like a broken record, and that's because it is. Getting angry at fans expressing frustration isn't going to solve the problem.

Article: Arms Race: The Search For Young Starters
Doomtints replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The problem: Pitching has been needed for a very long time now. They need a new approach first, because what they are trying isn't working. -

One thing I have thought about regarding concussions. As we all know, kids have huge sugar cravings. Truth is that at that age, sugar is needed for brain development. There's a reason they crave an endless supply of it. By the time one hits the mid-40s, sugar isn't as necessary and the cravings are much lessened. When you once could eat an entire cake as a kid, at middle age half a piece is about all you want before it starts tasting disgusting. What I'm getting at is, if high-sugar diets help brain development, would going on a short-term high sugar diet help with post-concussion symptoms? Athletes like Mauer are probably dedicated to low-sugar, high-protein diets and maybe this is the opposite of what their body needs when it comes to dealing with a concussion? Any doctors here wish to comment?

Article: Gamethread: Twins@Blue Jays 8/26 6:07PM
Doomtints replied to Riverbrian's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Seems like Lavigne was one of the last MTV darlings before MTV decided to give up on music altogether. Probably a good idea on their part. -
As others had mentioned, Park had a fast start. When he started slumping, Molitor spoke about how Park's timing seemed off, that he was a bit behind pitches. I think nagging hand and wrist injuries would explain it. Like Rosterman, I don't see how Park fits with the Twins plans, regardless of how good he ends up being. Sano needs to be the DH unless the Twins are OK with him having a short career due to his elbow problems. Mauer is at 1B. The OF is finally taking shape. There is just no room for him.
-
By the time Joe retires, he will have played more games at 1B and those catcher comparisons for JAWS will disappear from Baseball Reference. JAWS has some multi-positional comparisons available, but I'm guessing the website will display 1B numbers. We'll find out.

Unfortunately JAWS is adjusted by position and you are looking at catcher numbers. It's going to be a hard sell to get him in based on that.

Generally, I see a lot of people bemoan that others dislike Mauer. But I don't see people ragging on him. Maybe some of you frequent other, darker parts of the internet. Maybe some of you remember criticisms of him from long ago. As the OP said, Mauer will be in the Twins HOF. None of us know if he will be in Cooperstown. One would think that voters will still be trying to figure out what to do with steroids-era players by the time the conversation comes up, which may help his chances as being the Golden Boy. But this is too far away to really be guessing at in any serious way.

Article: Dozier's Not Jerking Around
Doomtints replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some hitters are pull hitters, some are opposite field hitters. The biggest factors are timing and strength. Do you really think that messing with Dozier's timing will help him? -
Article: Fixing Jose Berrios
Doomtints replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Reading this, it really does seem like the Twins structure is a "good old boy's club" and there are a lot of coaches and managers who are not doing their work. It truly is an organization that (until recently) one could not get fired from. Berrios isn't the first person who came up from the majors without being ready, but this is the first deep dive I have seen into the problems with a player's development that were not addressed. -
Article: Fixing Jose Berrios
Doomtints replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"FIxing" Berrios implies something is broken with him. He's young, not broken. Look at how long it took Santana and Viola to perform at expectations. With Viola, the "fix" was to let him play. With Santana, the "fix" was to use him out of the bullpen. I don't know if this coaching staff is smart enough to make any type of decision one way or the other. Thus, Berrios will probably get bounced around. Twins management is very impatient. -
Article: Kepler Versus Buxton Has Become No Contest
Doomtints replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All true. The sample size is still too small on Kepler to even bother trying to predict what he will do. It doesn't look to me like his performance is going to drop through the floor, but we're all just going with our gut feelings on this one. To his credit, he spent an awful lot of time in the minors. He has a better chance of being a known quantity now than Twins fan are used to out of a rookie, so I understand why people would be skeptical. We have seen a lot of guys play well for a month and then never play well again. -

The Twins had some good pitching after Viola. I would say the pitching dried up after Ryan came in (as did a lot of other things). You are right when you say that there wasn't much before Viola, though. I did not read any of these "History of the Twins" articles (yes I should) but one thing worth bringing up is that the younger Griffith was great at fielding elite infield defenses. If you look at the best defenders in Twins history, there has been a drop off since the late 80s. The 70s Twins were not particularly exciting because defense isn't exciting, but they also were not the doormats that many people think they were. Griffith was a little smarter at fielding a team on the cheap than the next Twins GM who tried (though yes in both instances a championship was out of the question).

Article: Kepler Versus Buxton Has Become No Contest
Doomtints replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Whenever someone throws around the "tools" phrase it's best to be skeptical. What's interesting is that when people start saying a prospect has 5 tools, he is always anointed as being the next superstar. You only need one tool to be a star -- you need to be able to shred the ball with your bat. Speed and defense are nice, but if you can't hit MLB pitching they don't matter. We saw this same routine with Hicks. -
Article: The Andrew Albers Circus
Doomtints replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have said elsewhere that the Twins are bizarre with how they handle Albers. They sell him to Korea. OK, fine, they deem he's not good enough to play in the majors, even as a LOOGY. I disagree, but I can respect their decision. They trade for Tommy Milone, who is a slightly worse version of Albers. They bring Albers back rather than try something new. If he was not good enough for the organization in the past, how could he be good enough now? This means either sending him away was a mistake, or it means bringing him back was a mistake. They then promote him to the team rather than calling up a pitcher already on the roster but in the minors. Then they immediately cut him in spite of having roster space. Whatever your opinion is of Albers' ability, the Twins are treating him very badly. If he is not good enough for the Twins, he deserves some respect and the Twins should let him go. The Twins are treating him like an expendable ex-girlfriend that they keep on the side. -
Article: Kepler Versus Buxton Has Become No Contest
Doomtints replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Baseball history is full of #2 picks who ended up being average players. Sure, have the expectation that the team should draft the right people if that is going to be their only source for talent, but that has nothing to do with Buxton's performance. All I'm saying is make sure you're blaming the right people should Buxton not become an MVP. -
Article: Kepler Versus Buxton Has Become No Contest
Doomtints replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There is a lot of baseball played in between "failure" and "star." It's not his fault if he ends up in the middle along with most of the players in baseball. This would be the fault of the people who hyped him up. Be disappointed in them, not him.
