Article: Pitching Pipeline: What's Next?

I Exactly. Including the prospects that appear fringe. Don't wait until they have no value in AAA.- 164 replies

Article: Pitching Pipeline: What's Next?
laloesch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pretty good summary if you ask me and i don't consider your opinion "debby downer" more like cautious realism. Mejia could be a steal, but i have never seen him pitch. Gonsalves is probably the next polished guy with good potential that is close to ready..... and he's a lefty. Not an especially hard thrower at 90-92, but racking up the strikeouts in Chattanooga averaging 10.2k per 9 over 9 starts. Agreed on Jay. Huge gamble by the Twins. Potential for high reward, but they've tried this whole reliever to starter conversion thing recently on Cederoth and that experiment failed miserably, but will see. I have been criticized to the "nth" degree for not being super high on Stewart. Despite his good velocity, he has not induced strikeouts that you would expect from a top pitching prospect progressing through the system. From what i understand his fastball lacks movement and he relies too heavily on his sinker to try and grind guys out via ground balls. Sounds like another Gibson or Blackburn clone if you ask me. In summary. Twins need more starting pitching prospects.- 164 replies

Article: Kepler Versus Buxton Has Become No Contest
laloesch replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think he's more than a couple tweaks away from putting it together. He has no eye at the plate whatsoever. In fact he appears to be totally clueless. I think a big part of this is a lack of major league experience. Until a hitter reaches AAA they will see mostly fastballs and not much breaking or off speed stuff. That is part of the BIG transition to the Majors that hitters often struggle with. That said, you would think such a highly drafted hitting prospect would be able to recognize and track pitches effectively and start being more selective in the batters box with more experience. The fact that he was still striking out like crazy, swinging at pitches bouncing off home plate and in the dirt is very disturbing. To me it appears that he was not effectively taught to track, recognize and react to pitches after release when he was younger (should start in little league). It screams lack of fundamentals and coddled prospect. -
I read somewhere that Santiago stated something to the effect that the Twins already had him make some adjustments and I was thinking already?

Now that Alex Meyer is out of the picture it's going to be another season before Gonsalves or Stewart get close to reaching the majors and we still have no idea when or if Hughes comes back. That leaves us with May, Jay and Mejia (late next season at the earliest). Will the Twins go out and sign another big name free agent once Mauer is off the books?

Article: Buxton Stalls Out, Again
laloesch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yep, couldn't have summed it up better myself. There's no shame for him to spend more time in AAA. I mean he's only 22 years old. Give him another full year in AAA and just let him mature and grow. -

I'm hoping that's the next step here over the next couple of days. Place Milone, Plouffe and Suzuki on waivers and see what comes up.- 553 replies

Probably quite a bit. That deal was setting the stage for moving other catchers including Suzuki so by the time that Lucroy was rerouted to his final destination it was too late to get rid of Suzuki.- 553 replies

Yeah me too. Jays ended up settling for Scott Feldman and Liriano. Very interested to see what was going on there before that deal fell apart.- 553 replies

Not a big fan. He's ANOTHER soft tossing lefty. High 80's fastball. No bueno.

I think there is a possibility that one of Nolasco, Milone or Ervin gets dealt. Apparently the Jays are still in the market for a starter.- 553 replies

Article: Report: Twins Recalling Jose Berrios
laloesch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And Molitor is definitely a Ryan hire. He appears to have zero patience with the younger players. I still think he was the wrong guy for manager at this stage. Should have been Dougie.- 33 replies

Article: Twins Trade Deadline Tidbits
laloesch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would be absolutely thrilled if the Twins unloaded Nolasco and Milone. That would be AWESOME! If they do this and hang onto Santana that would be acceptable. Ridding ourselves of Nolasco and Milone would mean Berrios would get a callup for sure and would likely finish the season in the majors. The next logical move would be to send May down to AAA to stretch him out. In the meantime they could callup Dean and or Wheeler to fill the void. The next big question is Duffey. Santana Gibson Duffey Berrios May, Dean, Wheeler, Mejia -

"highly unlikely" Why? I mean for a team looking to gamble on a low risk left handed starter whose arbitration eligible the next two years and not locked into a big contract. -

Yes you can. It's not like the rotation will not have veterans if Santana is traded. Gibson has reached veteran status along with Milone. -

laloesch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Uffda don't say that. What does that mean for Meyer and May both of whom are already 26? Then it's even more imperative that the Twins move these overpriced veterans unless they have already written them off and are waiting on Stewart, Gonsalves, and Jay. There doesn't appear to be much else to be excited about. Burdi, Reed, Chargois and Cederoth are all relievers. Neither Stewart or Gonsalves is particularly overpowering. The two exceptions appear to be Berrios and Jay a converted reliever. -

I'm not super excited about Gibson anymore either. Guy is quickly approaching his prime years and has established a troublesome reoccurring pattern of starting every season VERY slowly. I'd listen too offers for him as well. Note he is arbitration eligible this off season and is likely to get expensive very quickly. -

EXACTLY! The Twins just don't get the rebuilding concept. It could be a feeble attempt at posturing for a better deal, but reality is reality with this organization. This team IMO has no hope of contending next year without revamping the rotation. If Santana were 2 or 3 years younger i'd say hang onto him as a building block for the rotation, but the truth of the matter is that he's 34 this December. His UCL could blow at anytime and the PED issues in his recent past are of grave concern. It is very likely he starts to decline soon. I think you have to seriously consider dealing him for anything decent. Remember too that we are also burdened with the Hughes contract . More importantly the Twins apparently feel obligated to start Nolasco, Hughes (when healthy) and Santana because of their contracts no matter how poorly they pitch. The time to wheel and deal Santana is now. If you have to dump Nolasco, fine. That will clear space in the rotation for Berrios, May and whomever you wish to try out from AAA. Sometimes it's addition by subtraction. -
My gut feeling is that with Terry Ryan gone Berrios will be up soon. However insiders have noted that Molitor and his staff are trying to change the approach of many of the younger batters (including Buxton) as well as the pitchers instead of letting them play to their strengths. Perhaps Molitor isn't the right guy for a rebuilding team when it comes to these young pitchers and hitters. Who knows how many of the yoyo rosters moves back and forth to AAA were on TR or Molly.

Article: Twins Fire General Manager Terry Ryan
laloesch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
HOLY BLEEP, BLEEP, BLEEP, BLEEP! Didn't see this coming at all. Wow. This is not the typical Twins way. Pohlads must be fuming over how this season is going. Now it's time for a Fire Sale. DUMP everything over 30. I fully expect to be rid of Nolasco, Plouffe, Milone, Santana, Suzuki possibly more in the next two weeks. WOW! -
Twins Minor League Report (7/10): Tyler Jay Makes AA Debut
laloesch commented on Steve Lein's blog entry in The Hanging SL
Glad to see they are pushing Jay up the food chain. Maybe AAA next season with a possible mlb debut in 2018? -
You don't have to tell me that. I had a concussion as a kid on a motor bike were i lost a WHOLE day to concussion amnesia. My mother said I couldn't remember my name, age, anything. I had some lingering symptoms for about 3 - 4 months. I am not taking a shot at Mauer. I am stating that athletes often make excuses (which they do) and blame slumps on lingering nagging injuries. You can't deny that. And by the way Brad Steil, the Twins' Director of Minor League Operations basically confirmed as such saying the broadcasters where "bantering" and that it was entirely inaccurate. READ AGAIN "Park does not have a hand injury and he didn't have a hand injury (or anything else) in spring training," Steil noted. "He does have some wrist soreness at the moment, but it’s not something that prevents him from playing. Players deal with bumps, bruises, soreness, and general fatigue throughout the course of a six month season, and we will occasionally give them days off to help manage those things." Sometimes a slump is just that a slump.
