  1. How are things being managed with the Saints' return to town?
  2. No one would have provided more length in the bullpen than Loek van Mil, may he rest in peace.
  3. Perhaps Twins minor leaguer Akil Badoo can be an early adopter - then you can go from Bombas to bamboo to Badoo.
  4. Having the most effective pitchers pitch in the highest-leverage situations should be the design of the bullpen, not holding your lights-out guy in reserve to finish off a 2 or 3-run lead in the 9th inning.
  5. Whenever the next meaningful Major League baseball is played, the ball is likely to be more juiced as the MLB 'braintrust' responds to the current situation with the ol' reliable "more home runs are a magic cure" ploy.
  6. I think a better test of survival skills would be if they could find decent toilet paper anywhere.
  7. On May 12th 1978, Twins third baseman Mike Cubbage, annoyed that his recovery from his latest batting slump was going to get interrupted by an inevitable rain-out, remarked to Bob Fowler of the Minneapolis Star while dabbing at raindrops on his tinted aviator glasses, "That weather guy at Channel 4 is going to get fired one of these days!"
  8. Additional Attributes: Panache: Dan Ford Personal Grooming: Rick Aguilera Lineage: Roy Smalley III Mustache: Roy Smalley III
  9. Actually Out Of The Park (OOTP) baseball is a very detailed and immersive PC sim that's been out for years and upgrades their product each season. They have complete MLB and Minor league rosters down to short season leagues - plus full customization, league building, historic replays, exporting of data, online leagues, etc. MLB the Show is truly fantastic - but is a console experience while OOTP goes into much more depth. Two very different kinds of experiences. I recommend both.
  10. The regional Twins games broadcast on TV in my teen years were heavy on Dave Goltz pitching in his road blues so seeing him in Dodger white on national TV was as if he had ascended to a higher realm.
  11. Wrigley Field in Los Angeles was 340 to LF with a 14.5 foot wall so wasn't a gimme for for right-handers. If you quantum lept 1959-era Mays and Killebrew to Camden Yards, gave them Sammy Sosa Home Run Derby bats and threw them Rob Manfred atomic baseballs they'd fare a little better.
  12. With pronounced IF shifts and 4-outfielder alignments, 3B requires more range. While Sano may be the size of a Range Rover he's not a range rover.
  13. The second choice was the Patriot 107.5 so this is still acceptable.
  14. Fortunately Graterol should be ready to step up soon if Berrios falls off.
  15. Kenta Maeda has only 33 quality starts out of 103 total starts over four seasons - a 32% rate. (The MLB average is 42%.) Maeda's W-L record in games started is 42-32 with 20 of the 42 being "Cheap wins" (A non-quality start) while only 4 of his losses were "Tough" losses. (Quality starts) Seems like Vance Worley logic being applied here. Certainly not worth giving up Graterol.
  16. Interesting fact: Duran throws a "Splinker" as his fourth pitch, according to Baseball America. Twins' Jhoan Duran Uses 'Splinker' To Flummox Hitters
  17. Depends which baseball MLB decides to use next year - the Mitch Garver 30 HR ball or the Mitch Garver 12 HR ball.
  18. Jeff Sullivan's recent Kepler article on FanGraphs shows some interesting performance indicators in Max's 2018 season that should make us as optimistic about his future as the MLB teams that were asking the Twins about possible Kepler deals this off-season.
  19. This post assumes Buxton would be the same potential future player here as with another team. While I'm not doubting Buxton's potential I am doubting the Twins ability to help him reach it. They have a garage full of sports cars but can't seem to figure out how to work a clutch.
  20. Joe -even though the timing of your retirement feels right, actually watching that curtain come down is still a melancholy feeling. Such memories... That 2007 season when we sat in the Dome after the last game of the season watching the Royals-Tigers game go into extra innings to see whether the Twins would win the division or not - and then the joy when the Royals pulled it out in the 12th and you and the Twins came out and celebrated with the fans! Or the 2009 season - your MVP year - when what was supposed to be the last regular season game ever played in the Dome wasn't - prompting a tie-breaking 163rd game which was one of the best, most-thrilling baseball games I've watched in my life. Thanks for all the great baseball and memories. Best wishes to you and your family.
  21. Baldelli's first order of business - get a catchy slogan that the troops can rally behind. "Roc the Boat" seems to be a natural.
  22. Would this Badass bullpen ultimately be more successful than the Kickass offense of Brad Childress?
  23. Just curious - what is the actual age when "so-and-so is only X years old" stops being a reasonable rationalization? Does the number of consecutive years it is used matter?
