What does Holden Berger do well? Is it gas, filthy breaking/Godspeed stuff, phenomenal command, or all three. Just trying to paint a picture in my brain, because it seems like no-one has barreled up anything he's throwing in 2 years.
Isn't it about time for a promotion for Palka? This guy has done nothing but crush AA pitching. I'd love to see him do the same in Rochester and maybe get a taste of the majors in September. With the pitching the Twins have they need as many balls as possible to leave the yard.
When Mauer was at his best he controlled at-bats it felt as though he was just toying with the pitcher. He's just not the same guy up there he looks over matched more often than not. So sad that a brain injury robbed one of the best pure hitters of a generation of his powers.
Earlier this year there were reports that Gonsalves was actually starting to throw with some velocity, like mid 90's, is that still the case or was that just a hot gun.
The answer to the question the title of the article poses is quite simply yes. A thousand times yes. Please anybody raise their hand and tell me Ervin Santana isn't a better pitcher than Mike Pelfry. The hand wringing over this "dilemma" is ridiculous.
I can't wait to see this kid in a twins uni. He sounds like everything you want to root for. It would also be nice to have a true ace again. No pressure young fella
I also think this is a bit high for Gonsalves. Saw him pitch, he simply overmatched mwl hitters by having a legitimate 3 pitch mix. He was able to keep those inexperienced hitters off his fastball. As he ascends I think his lack of velocity is going to increasingly limit his ability to miss bats, which in turn limits his upside a bit.
I agree the starters have been getting by on a bit of luck. Phil Hughes is pitching like Yankees Phil Hughes, and pelf will regress at some point. What is encouraging is Gibson has naturally progressed into a 3-4 starter as has Trevor may. Simply not trotting out 4a players 3 out of 5 games makes a huge difference. That being said let's not kid ourselves. To get to the next level we're going to need at least 2 prospects to turn into top of the rotation arms, from what I see iun the minors that's still a year or 3 away.
The premise that something the Astros did affects what the twins do with the top prospect in the game is completely ludicrous. The twins will bring up Buxton whenever they feel he's ready plain and simple. I personally am of a mind that should be sooner rather than later because he'd be the best fielder on the team, and why not let him learn how to hit at the majors.
I was one of about 150 people at thkernel's game(it was quite cold) and from what I saw Stephen gonsalves has nothing left to prove at low A ball. His secondary offerings are just filthy. Also Nick Gordon really looked like a kid out there but he flashed some tools that get me excited to see how far he can go.
