  1. It does feel like something is happening, but hopefully it's just a breaking of Boras, and not a breaking of owner-player relations more broadly.
  2. I believe you, but how much of that has to do with Tampa Bay just having better than average pitching?
  3. So let me get this straight. You like the Sanchez pick up, but are worried Odorizzi is on a downward trend?
  4. I've always liked Odorizzi. Not earth shaking but not a bad get, especially if it's just Palacios.
  5. You are already sharing a photo of Darvish in Cubs uniform. Too soon, man. Too soon.
  6. I enjoy coming to this site to squabble with fellow Twins fans. I have been pretty consistent over the past 8 or 9 months about the best way for this team to improve its pitching -- by making a trade. Several weeks ago I blogged here that I preferred the Twins make a trade rather than pursue Darvish.
  7. and then the casual fan who takes her family to that second Twins game in summer 2018 is seeing not an 89-73 team, but a 78-84 team, and with the excitement gone in 2019, this casual fan decides to do something else besides go to the Twins game.
  8. At $19 and $18 million, Darvish would or should in no way be the highest paid Twin by then. Still not too late to salvage the rotation.
  9. The Twins were concerned about that sixth year, and Darvish accepts $18 million for it. In 2023 that will be Mike Pelfrey money.
  10. Not sure what you mean by "he reacted", but the front office has been unwilling to talk to Dozier about an extension, so love it or not Dozier seems as good as gone after (or during) 2018. Good for him. I hope he goes to a winner.
  11. Interesting, thanks. Didn't realize that was out there. One of the weaker arguments is that since the Twins offered "a lot of money" they should be immune from criticism. Maybe if Kershaw opts out of his deal next offseason (were the Dodgers aware that opt-out was in the Kershaw contract?) so if Kershaw is on the free agent market, the Twins should offer Kershaw 5/110 and then be proud they gave it their best shot and people should accept that. No. Darvish was worth more than 5/110. He is most likely worth more than 6/126, but we'll see. Thanks again. The Twins still have a lot of questions to answer, about both the Darvish negotiation and more importantly their rotation plans for 2018-2019
  12. Shouldn't Cobb have been signed by now, or was that going to be a cakewalk too?
  13. Well, now Nick is telling us they actually gave up on Darvish several weeks ago. Which, on the timeline, would put us back to about the time of Twins Fest. And at that time, they said they hadn't even made him an offer yet. Which would then lead me to believe the front office knew they weren't making Darvish a serious offer.
  14. by the way, what ever happened about the Twins wanting to make Darvish their highest paid player? The front office said that at the start of the offseason.
  15. you have so many good articles keeping this site going, easy to understand how you might get them confused True, we don't know the details. Maybe the Twins were warming to an opt-out but were slow to the draw. Who knows. The Twins really did hype the possibility of Darvish signing here, and it's been the topic of discussion all winter, so I don't think it's a big thing to spend 24-48 hours blowing off steam now that it's over. The Twins could still make something of this offseason. We'll see.
  16. No, but nice try In December you wrote the Twins must get creative to lure Darvish. How so? By being open minded to an opt out provision, and even sillier, suggesting that the Twins should consider signing Chris Gimenez too. (The very things the Cubs did.) You concluded the article by projecting Darvish to sign at 5 years, 135 million. So it really stretches the imagination that Twins Daily, or you, or whoever, is "fine" with Darvish signing elsewhere for 6 years and 126 million. That's right, more years, less money. Not a peep of protest or regret from anyone in there??
  17. $110 million is a lot of money! Doesn't matter the player, Kershaw, Darvish, Bryce Harper, Kyle Gibson... it's a lot of money
  18. Nick, your December article on Darvish was spot on. The Twins whiffed on a huge opportunity to sign him. Thoughts?
