  1. Even in a story advocating for Mientkiewicz, you can't come up with a single reason Molitor might be qualified to be the next manager?
  2. Well said LaBombo. I can chalk up Nick's reply to tobi as hasty typing in service of hasty thoughts. There are many reasons to retain Gardenhire and Anderson, but very few good ones anymore. On these boards we've read maybe a dozen different, fundamental, compelling reasons to part ways with them. (Compelling to me anyway.) If the status quo is maintained yet another year, let's hear something in that pathetic press conference other than "terrible players" and "Terry Ryan takes all responsibility" for everything!
  3. What if Gardenhire and Anderson really are the biggest obstacle to this team winning? How will we ever know if we don't try someone else?
  4. Yes, at the moment, the "We're not the Astros!" argument for optimism and maintaining the status quo, is off the table.
  5. The Twins always seem to play on edge nowadays. All season long, even in April and May, we hear about "huge" homestands, "critical" three-game series, losses that are "really frustrating," other losses that are rationalized away... and so on. I don't know if this constant urgency is communicated to the players or not, but if it is, then it's no wonder they burn out in September every year. Obviously this could all be pop psychology, but maybe not. I miss the days of TK and his "not too high, not too low" philosophy for making it through a six month season. Gardenhire and Kelly seem to be extreme opposites at this point. This is not to say the "win now" approach can't work; as you have said, the Twins led by Gardenhire have been able to win under pressure situations in the past (postseason notwithstanding) but it feels different now. This new urgency to win every night is one thing I think could disappear immediately with the hiring of a different manager with a different style. Let the guys relax and see what happens. Again, maybe just my perception.
  6. Yep. The Twins need to just own it. Maybe you've found your professional calling after all. Also, the problem is not the marketing, as much as it is the Win-Loss record and management's complacency about doing anything about it.
  7. On the money. They should just own it. Maybe you are in the wrong career field after all. Also, the problem is not the marketing, it's the Win-Loss record combined with management's apathy about doing anything about it.
  8. well welcome to TD... you and me are the only two who feel Meyer might not make it as a starter... take comfort though, as Randy Johnson took until his late 20s to get straightened out and Doug Fister (6-foot-8) didn't debut until age 25.
  9. True. And intuitively I prefer the Twins more cautious approach to the National's approach, but look at the results they are getting compared to the Twins. Washington seems to not have much concern about a pitcher undergoing TJ surgery but shoulder might be a different concern in their system. Don't know. Hypothetically, also, if a guy like Trevor May had been in the Washington system, I think he would have gotten a look before now and doubt very much his ERA after four starts would be above 10.00. So I feel there's something more than injury rehab the Twins need to be concerned about.
  10. Shane - I couldn't agree more here. Instead of babying them along and wasting so many innings in the minors, I'd much rather see that wear and tear occur for the big club. Within reason of course... I agree. Develop guys quicker while they're young and fresh. Seems like many teams are doing that. Even with his shoulder, Meyer probably would have been in the big leagues by now, if he was still in the Washington organization. Barring serious injury, no reason Berrios shouldn't be in the big leagues by age 22.
  11. I get it, but Arcia has that Pierzynski/Hunter/Mientkiewicz competitive quality that this team hasn't seen since, well, Pierzynski Hunter or Mientkiewicz. (With the exception that Arcia doesn't seem to have any of the negative personal aspects that those three did to varying degrees.) I personally hope the Twins stick with Arcia. I can live with his erratic play in the field.
  12. We had several guys discussed as legitimate all stars this year. A couple other guys like Plouffe who had solid seasons. Young guys like Santana who have surprised. Tell me the players are the reason we are a 90 loss team.
  13. I hoped Colabello might get one last look. This decision must be his "pat on the shoulder."
  14. Agree. I could feel comfortable rolling into next year without a major signing of a position player. Wouldn't it be nice if Mauer came out and said "yeah, I feel I've improved at first base, but I'd be willing to give left field a try. I love a challenge and left field is where I always hit the ball anyway, so maybe I'll learn something new."
  15. The best plan for Pinto at this point is to let him just be the backup. I've seen zero from Fryer. However it seems to me like native spanish speaking catchers fall out of favor when they reach the Twins big club. Morales, Ramos, now Pinto. That's the best explanation I got.
  16. I think this is basically correct. Buxton especially. The Twins not necessarily not the unluckiest, and that is not the claim you are making. I think the top 3 minor league prospects all suffered some sort of horrid injury of late. So other teams are set back too. But if someone actually did some groundwork I'd bet we'd find the Twins were in the unluckiest 10 or 20 percent though.
  17. Definitely too early to panic. The Royals lineup is underrated and makes good contact, as you said. On other forums I read that the point of the Twins leaving Meyer and May in the minors so long was that they would be good and seasoned when they finally were called up - who knows. I'd really like to see Suzuki catch his next start.
  18. Yeah I'd tend to believe someone else is telling Arcia to just be himself, thus Arcia passing that along to Vargas.
  19. Bump. I love these gifs even if it's just four pitches (SSS alert) which I think is acknowledged - great job, Nick
  20. I liked it too - I was wondering why Mornie was sounding so Spock-like. also, typical of Mauer to kill the mood. Very nice edit there..
  21. Congrats for getting out ahead of this story in 2012. With the benefit of an MLB-affiliated minor league development track, Colabello might have had a nice career as a very good major league hitter. He might still get another call up in September.
  22. Gotcha. Obviously the best scenario is that he rebounds next year and in future years.
  23. I was honestly warming to the idea of keeping Willingham. I mean the guys hitting a game winning HR every couple weeks or so.
