  1. As of tonight's Detroit game, Pelfrey is pitching very well. Nobody expects a whole season of this, but stranger things have happened. Ride the hot hand. Keep him in the rotation. Ricky Nolasco? When you get back from your rehab, there is a new place for you to sit. Easy Eddie will take you out there and explain...
  2. If this game thread were the Gong show, I'd be gonged... And it would be the long entertaining dancing gong, where everybody's having fun except for the sad sack on stage who's about to cry and doesn't know if he should continue
  3. 3 hrs at the gym today and my feet hurt 3 hrs at the gym today 3 hrs 3 homers ??? I ask again...
  4. Oh, I wouldn't say I restrict myself to the game threads... That's a little basset right?--thanks again!
  5. LOVE - THANKS!! I'm out before I say anything else stupid tonight
  6. Following on MLB, and I am seeing things like: Pickoff attempt, Pickoff attempt, Pickoff attempt, wild pitch, runner to second. Uff da.
  7. About that, I do not know. For all his flaws, I do think Gardy has plenty of good selling points. He's loyal and personable. Good instincts. He knows the league. (I see him as an AL guy.) He can hit the ground running Day 1, as opposed to Ausmus, who sent text messages to Leyland last year during slumps. Depends on how serious Gardy is about adapting the hiring organization's ideas about the game, analytics, choosing pitching coach, etc. I think a lot of teams would be open minded about hiring a guy like Gardy, not all, but many.
  8. All true perhaps, but I'm not going to underestimate him. The old-fashionedness comes from the organizational culture here, and wasn't just him. Gardy said in the press conference that he will manage again. That's a professional agency he hired. He'll be back.
  9. I think he could end up in Chicago or Detroit, if either of those teams significantly underachieve this year. It's hard to get a feel for these other teams and markets we don't see as much. Gardy will definitely manage again and I'm taking a softer view of him now that it's obvious very little is changing in his absence. Gardenhire had no bigger supporter than Jim Leyland, who is still an important voice in Detroit. Leyland would never throw Ausmus under the bus but Ausmus really seems like he struggled last year. If Detroit misses the postseason I think Gardy would be perfect for that team.
  10. Not imagining, here it is (link)... although it's not clear if Berardino is attributing that statement to Ryan, it sure seems like a strong possibility that Nolasco could make two starts, to give the team more time to decide.
  11. I don't know if Gardenhire has an east coast an east coast guy or not (someone who knows him better might be able to fill that in). He can both afford to be selective, but also probably needs to get in next year while he's still attractive. My bet is that if Detroit takes an unexpected nose dive, he ends up there in 2015. And that would be FUN.
  12. Pelfrey is an emergency starter only. Especially given that May is showing enough to stick around. So unless Pelfrey matches or improves upon his last start, Pelfrey is the odd man out. That's what should happen, though not necessarily will happen. However, in the article, Ryan also said that Nolasco might pitch two games in AAA, which would delay Ryan having to make a decision he doesn't want to make. Which begs the question of whether Nolasco is even good enough to crack this rotation in the first place.
  13. Mauer may not be blocking anyone at AAA but didn't Vargas come up as a 1B? You can't help but wonder what a valuable piece Vargas would be in a few years with regular playing time at first. 'Little Papi' as Ortiz calls him.
  14. I actually think a panel is a good idea. For example, you could have a 5 person panel consisting of the team's GM, the assistant GM, the team scouting director, and the field managers of both teams, all who contribute input, with the panel to be chaired by the General Manager, who makes the final call. Boras. What a buffoon.
  15. Yeah when I said "room to improve" I meant at the plate I don't think anyone is claiming Arcia is the worst of our problems, but I think people misinterpret him. I think if he can harness his emotions he'll be a very good hitter and a little wiser in the field. It will take time. (That's my view from 35,000 feet anyway.)
  16. I know how bad Arcia can look at times. I've also seen him be a catalyst and know he is immensely talented with room still to improve. I would go in to war with Oswaldo Arcia 7 days a week. Meanwhile, Torii Hunter missed another cut off man today. That's all I got.
