Twins Daily 2023 Top Prospects: #2 Royce Lewis, SS
Tibs replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I know Lee had a good start to his professional career and I can see the concerns with Lewis after another knee injury. I'm still taking him as the Twins top prospect 7 days of the week. I'm very excited to see what he can do this year. -
Twins Daily 2023 Top Prospects: #4 Marco Raya, RHP
Tibs replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
If he's healthy, then there's no reason to keep him in Ft Myers because of the weather. I'm excited to see what he can do this year. Going from almost off the radar to #4 prospect in the organization is quite the jump. An offseason of development make his starts a much watch this year. -
I wish we would stop with the clickbait stuff. The Twins season will be determined by how they perform over 162 games, not any single month.

Twins Daily 2023 Prospect Rankings (Part 2: Prospects 21-30)
Tibs replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Very excited for the potential of Chourio and Acuna. I'm a little surprised to see Severino this low with the production he put up last year. I'm also interested to see what De Andrade can do on a full season team. Sands should move to the bullpen immediately. He could make an impact there this season. Question on starting prospects at Ft Myers vs Cedar Rapids. It wasn't specifically mentioned here but often times it is when talking about A level prospects. Do the Twins actually care about starting a prospect at Ft Myers instead of Cedar Rapids because of the weather early in the season? It seems like if you're going to play for the Twins in the AL Central that shouldn't be a consideration.- 33 replies

He's just not and the numbers don't suggest it either. Twice in Gallo's career he has put up numbers remotely acceptable for a leadoff hitter. In 70 games in 2019, he had a .389 OBP. In 95 games with the Rangers in 2021 before being traded to the Yankees, he had a .379 OBP in 95 games. Both of those outputs are elite. However, they are each half a season of production. In 2017 his OBP was around average at .333. Every other season he's barely eclipsing .300 OBP and last year he put up a whopping .280 OBP. The leadoff hitter should be someone who gets on base at an above average rate and is ideally one of your best hitters. Joey Gallo currently meets neither of those criteria. Seeing 4 pitches to start the game and striking out accomplishes nothing.

Bally Sports Networks Preparing for bankruptcy
Tibs replied to howeda7's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on the topic. Just curious how a proposed streaming network directly provided by MLB would have to cover all the revenue solely through subscriptions. Would they not still sell ad revenue? Something has to play between innings -
This Twins Team Is Better Than the 2019 Squad
Tibs replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just a weird article and not sure the point of it. Catcher: "He was coming off just a 104 OPS+ the year prior, and that should be a bar the current tandem can clear." This has nothing to do with 2019. 2019 Mitch Garver had a 157 OPS+ with 31 dingers and a Silver Slugger with 4.1 bWAR in 93 games. We would be lucky to get that from the current catchers combined. 1B/3B: Conveniently didn't mention Miguel Sano and his 139 OPS+ and 34 home runs. CJ Cron had a 104 OPS+ and 25 dingers. Sano 2.5 bWAR and Cron 1.4. We don't even know who is playing 1B for this team. Right now it is Kirilloff who has had two seasons in a row ended with wrist issues. He has also yet to this point even approach anything Sano had done offensively and obviously neither has Miranda. Let's not sit here and pretend we're counting on Miranda to be a massive defensive upgrade over Sano. We would be ecstatic if he did anything close to what Sano did offensively. 2B/SS: This is where we could upgrade with Correa. However, 2019 Polanco was an All Star. Jonathon Schoop was a solid player and Luis Arraez came up and immediately hit as he does. OF: Byron Buxton 2023 is better than Byron Buxton 2019. Everything else is a clear downgrade on paper. 2019 Max Kepler is by far the best offensive version of Max Kepler to this point. His 4.0 bWAR in 2019 is almost as much as the 4.2 combined bWAR in his last two seasons. 2019 Eddie Rosario is miles better offensively than what we have seen from Joey Gallo the last 1.5 seasons. Gallo seems better defensively, but not enough to make up for him not making contact with the baseball. SP: Overall 2023's starting rotation should be better. "However, gone are Jake Odorizzi, Michael Pineda, and Kyle Gibson." You mean 2019 All Star Jake Odorizzi? 129 ERA+ and 3.8 bWAR Jake Odorizzi? Or how about 113 ERA+ Michael Pineda? Kyle Gibson is the only clear upgrade over those three. Bullpen: 2023's version should be better. Trevor May and Taylor Rogers were fantastic that season. Duran and Lopez will hopefully be able to match that. On paper, Jax, Thielbar, and Moran should make this bullpen much deeper. I certainly hope the Twins in 2023 win 101+ games. We're counting on a lot of things to go right for that to happen. Not impossible, but to sit here and pretend this team is better than the 2019 version on paper is wild.- 50 replies

I have a hard time seeing Celestino on the roster after the Taylor trade. Someone has to be the DH and he's redundant with Taylor and Gordon if you're going to include Gordon as an outfielder. Larnach or Wallner have to be on the team as a DH at this point.

How Bad Did the Twins Need Andrew McCutchen?
Tibs replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins needed him exactly zero. We can't be signing a 36 year old outfielder after having a career worst offensive season as a 35 year old expecting a bounce back year. At this point probably not a defensive asset either. This roster is not good enough to sign someone solely for clubhouse presence.- 12 replies

The Five Twins With the Most to Prove in 2023

Why are all of our young players/prospects injured? Also, Ober has done more than enough to be more than just penciled in to the final rotation spot.- 24 replies

Minnesota Twins Sign Joey Gallo
Tibs replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
2017 me is ecstatic maybe -
I had a 20 game season ticket package last year and renewed it for this year. May/June/July when the Twins were in first place Target Field was well under 50% capacity every game. This is when the Twins were winning and people still weren't showing up. This is when the Twins were in first place in the division during summer nights and people still weren't showing up. Were casual fans not showing up because the Twins were bad in 2021? I love baseball and the Twins so I'll go to games no matter what. I have no idea what drives casual fans to games. With that said, I think the cost of attendance is way too high. Even during those games in the summer with 20,000 max in attendance, 300 level tickets often times were $20+. Parking is $10-$15. I'm going to be completely honest, last season I was not thrilled with the food selection and quality at Target Field. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places but it was very unimpressive. With that, a basic chicken strips+fries or cheeseburger basket is $15+. Beers are generally $12-$14. A single Bomba Squad cocktail is also at least $15. Whatever the reason for low attendance is it's sad to see. Target Field is such a nice place for baseball.

Gut Punch! Carlos Correa Signs with the Giants
Tibs replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It sucks losing him. Most of my posts were referencing that we need to sign him to be serious about winning. The Twins made a serious offer. 13 years is ridiculous and would have been a bad decision -
Minnesota’s 3 Most Tradeable Prospects
Tibs replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
You would much rather have a high performing major leaguer, especially an ace, than prospects. However, the only times the Twins should be trading top prospects is when we're getting a high caliber player with multiple years of control, bare minimum 2, or we're absolutely killing it during the season and going all in on a championship. The Twins aren't a team who can replace holes in the roster through the team's payroll and free agents. We are not the Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Yankees, etc. The Twins never have and never will be. We literally can't afford to trade these top prospects outside of the two situations I mentioned above. The Twins will always have to build from within.- 21 replies

At some point you have to just let the starter pitch. The bullpen isn't going to be perfect every single game- 70 replies
