  1. The Twins aren't going to win this year, but I suppose they needed to make a statement to the fans. This one is OK, I suppose. They likely felt compelled to do something. Better than the terrible trade away of Chi Wei Hu. I fear this will be an excuse to enable the Twins to not call up a younger prospect to get his feet wet. I suspect Recker was a clearing move to help the Braves.
  2. What's truly scary is the prospect of Sano getting highly motivated by his success. He made some progress this offseason, but if he could get into elite shape he has the potential to put up Bobby Bonds like numbers. One fact overlooked is that Buxton has shown the potential to be the man to protect Sano. Admittedly, the "shows" have been for very short periods. There is some real excitement potential with this team...especially now that we have through 1 month one of the best groups of starting pitchers in baseball...never mind.
  3. Hey! We cannot get to 162-0 unless we first get to 3-0. Only 159 to go,
  4. “We will work diligently and collectively". This is a bit non-commital don't you think? Sure hope he got his authority in writing. Collectively with whom, is my concern. Has he been charged to work with Jim Pohlad, Paul Molitor, or Gardenhire?,
  5. "...eked out an economics degree". I guess you know something about his college work?
  6. There is not even a question about this. As my dad used to tell me, "Son, it's only results that count." This team was the worst team in MLB by 10 games. We secured the first draft pick with 2 weeks left in the season. The real question to ask is whether this team will be the hardest to turn around and it will not be. We have the basis for a very good offense. And we need to develop, beg, borrow or steal 3 good starting pitchers. Relievers can be found. Thank goodness we have someone coming in who seems to understand pitching staffs.
  7. I think one of the big solutions will depend upon which Sano shows up for spring training next year. He has certainly shown the skill to play a very good MJ 3rd base and his short stop background would support that. But at 260 - 280 lbs (pick a weight) he doesn't stand a good chance short term and no chance long term. He will continually find himself with nagging (or worse) injuries and have difficulty executing at the hot corner position. If he is properly motivated and could come in at a reasonable weight he could easily be the super star that's now just beyond his reach. In stead of an off season with relatives in New York, could we send him to Puerto Rico to train with Berrios who seems to be motivated beyond imagination?
  8. Berrios now has been sent back down. One of the best pitchers in the minors get to the majors twice and his pitching goes to hell and he gets sent back down. The problem isn't that a room full of people are giving him technical pitching instruction. The problem is that a room full of people are even allowed to approach him with advice is the issue. It means that no one has taken ownership for the development of our prize pitching future. This alone should be reason to fire Moitar. I cannot but wonder if the same thing wasn't done with Buxton and some of the other hitters that have failed. Can you imagine Jason Day on the practice range at the US Open and a series of retired good players not trained teachers mind you, just guys that used to be a good players came up to him one at a time and suggested that he change his grip, alignment and tempo? They'd shut down the practice tee. The circumstance described is the most damning description I've ever heard of how to deal with a valued prospect.
  9. John, I'm embarrassed for your performance last night. A string of 90 loss seasons followed up by this year's likely 100 loss season isn't bad enough to fire a GM? His total disdain for statistical analysis doesn't add enough to the record to fire him? How about Nolasco and Hughes contracts? Not enough, yet? You gotta be kidding! OK, we "borrowed" Jepson from Tampa Bay for about half a season and gave up Chi-We Hu (forgive spelling) for the privilege. Sano to right field? Berrios still in Rochester? The record of losses, bad decisions, and mishandling of players is almost beyond imagination. The man outlived his value years ago. That you still think he deserved more time is just goofy.
  10. My biggest fears are that with typical Twin's luck we will play just well enough to move from the #1 pick to #6 or worse. This will also give the F O the ability to tell owners that it's finally coming together so let's not change now. If we know one thing it's the fact that these owners like nothing more than not making decisions. The recent $30 million (approximate) gift for selling 35 % of MLB,com to Disney, has to have them thinking life is good, why would we screw with anything? Let's face it, those, generations of owners' down stream relatives are being fully vested by the Twin's cash cow.
  11. The twins have no one that pitches well. They have no one that hit's well. They have no one that can throw out a runner at second. If Mauer hits .245 on this team, he's a hero!
  12. Sano, Escobar and Polanco as our starting infield should be the main motivation right now. This means trading Plouffe, Dozier, Nunez and Santana while they have some value. If we suffer some growing pains through the end of the year, so be it. The only impact would be to solidify our draft position.
  13. Thank goodness we kept Santana! He can field badly, just like Arcia and hit much worse and do so in many more positions. 'Cuz, he's versatile.
  14. I don't think it's disdain. I hope not, certainly. Rather it's a recognition of his true skill level and his cost. $7 million for an OK fielding poor hitting 3rd baseman with very little upside is not good. Having him in the line up thus forcing one of the 2 best prospects the team has had since Joe Mauer into a position that risks his health AND who makes a fraction of the money is bad. Most importantly, this is bidness. No one should feel sorry for Trevor. We're paying him $7 million this year and he will make that next year as well. The Twins have made him an extremely wealthy young man. A little cold hearted management is needed. This team is really terrible. Give up the season and work solely on the future. The last thing we need is for Trevor and Brian and Suzuki to stay in the lineup all season and each to get into a short hot streak, win 15 of 18 games and take is from the 1st draft pick to the 5th while doing absolutely nothing for the development of the team's future.
  15. Buxton is going to be a major star. He's a kid who was rushed to face major league pitching after 50 AB's in AAA. He's now starting to hit in AAA and if they have a bit of patience before bringing him back up all will be just fine. Just wish they'd send Sano back down to join him. Then in about 30 days they could bring Sano, Buxton & Kepler back at once.
  16. It'll be tempting for the Twins to move him up real wuickly given the dumpster fire at Target Field. I hope they don't over rush it. Give him at least a full month in Rochester.
  17. "Antony has great respect in the industry as a negotiator. He has a high-level of respect from the agents." Really? It may not be respect, it's love. The rediculous contracts the Twins have given out in the last few years and some of the extensions "negotiated" are so unexplainable that it will be a wonder most agents don't have Twins management high on their Christmas list.
  18. They're waiting for Stewart's start tonight. They can get a discount if they fill 2 seats on the same flight.
  19. The biggest mistake is going to prove to be their handling of Miguel Sano. He had 20 games of good production last year and a 5 game good streak this year. Other than that he has absolutely stunk as a hitter. He strikes out and he does not hit with runners in scoring position. Then they compounded the screw up by putting him in a position he cannot play. A position no-one his size has ever played in the majors. When he gets hurt, and it could happen, what will Ryan and Molly say then? He should be in AAA with Buxton, Rosario and Kepler and each brought up when they have proven success at AAA.
  20. Well put Baggy Guy, thanks. I cannot imagine any other organization in America being allowed to be as mismanaged as the Twins are without a management house cleaning.
  21. Buxton in his brief time in AAA did well, but only 55 AB's. I sure hope this turn they give him adequate time to get fully tested and comfortable before throwing him back into the fire. He's our best prospect let's not mismanage him into oblivion.
  22. Start # 2 tonight. A little less adrenalin and a bit more control and we'll al be singing for joy? What thinketh y'all?
  23. I've seen Miss America. I'll bet she can't throw a slider or a change up and her 2 seemer never gets over about 60 MPH.
  24. Berrios starting. This is the night we'be been waiting for since about last June. Just checked the weather and it'll be 50 degrees, a 50% chance and 17 MPH winds. For a kid from Puerto Rico it'll be winter ball. Good luck Berrios! Will be interesting to see if he brings out a crowd despite the weather.
