  1. Which moves did you suggest, without the benefit of hindsight (specific players), that would have prevented this? Was the awful this year, and now injured Kimbrel one of them?
  2. Perhaps the plan isn't working. But that's not what I was arguing. Graterol wasn't the plan. Regardless of whether he ends up here or not, he wasn't the plan. No matter the level of incompetence that some may level at the front office, they didn't go into the season with "Plan A" being a 20 year old who'd thrown all of 60 innings at high A. Nor did they go into the deadline with "Plan A" being a 20 year old with all of 40 innings and a shoulder injury at AA.
  3. Ok, let's play this out to it's possible conclusion. If they'd signed two guys in the offseason that ended up being terrible, then stood pat at the deadline, with the given explanation being, "we did our shopping in the offseason, we don't do last minute shopping", you're reaction would be? If we want to critique their offseason moves, that's of course fair. But, it's independent of their moves at the deadline. Moves in the offseason are no guarantee that further moves won't be required at the deadline. Decision making is a moving target. Let's judge their deadline moves with the information and the resources they had at the deadline, not the ones they had 8 months ago.
  4. The Yankees got him because their ownership will allow them to grab mediocre salary dumps. A player like Encarnacion is available that far in advance only because he's a salary dump. Name the relief pitchers you asked for in the offseason, odds are they haven't been good.
  5. But most of the big name relievers signed in the offseason haven't been good. So they still would have needed help at the deadline.
  6. If Graterol is good enough to throw 3-4 clean innings though, they shouldn't be wasted in mop up.
  7. I find it odd that they got Romo two days before the deadline then, if they only started shopping 5 minutes before the deadline.
  8. Encarnacion was a salary dump. Nobody is trading an impact pitcher in April or May.
  9. The poster claimed the Twins plan is to rely on a 20 year old to pursue the pennant. Who do you think will have more impact on the 2019 record, Cruz or Graterol? Or what about all the other contributors who aren't 20 years old? Are they factors in the pennant race?
  10. Do you actually believe that's when the Twins started shopping? Or is it more likely that's when the selling teams finally began accepting reasonable prices for their goods?
  11. Kuechel has a worse FIP, in the national league. Of course he does have some better luck working right now, but I'm not sure I want my FO trying to predict which pitchers will get luckier on batted balls.
  12. That's very true. I was trying to warn people of that during this last offseason when everyone assumed there was plenty of payroll room.
  13. Disappointing series. The silver lining, IMO, is the way the offense continued to battle yesterday and today. I've been forced to watch Twins teams in the past that lay down and die in games like these. I'm not declaring any moral victories, but I still was happy to see them keep fighting.
  14. Substantially lower offensive production? Kepler signed his extension before his offensive breakout this year. His previous 3 seasons OPS+ were 97,95, and 96. If you toss out last season, when something clearly wasn't right with Buxton all year, he'll have a better 3 season OPS+ than Kepler had. Even if you INCLUDE last year, Buxton has a chance to get his career OPS+ within 5% of what Kepler's was going into his extension talks.
  15. Row the boat! I said I'd buy in if PJ beat Wisconsin, and I'm a man of my word.
  16. Ok, but even if he moves up to AAA after the draft, that still doesn't fit the timeline of "at least two years away". I mean, it very well could take two years, because injuries and setbacks can occur, but he also could be ready by this time next year.
  17. I really hope the FO isn't even looking at ERA for minor leaguers, let alone in 11 inning sample sizes. Duran earned his promotion, and I suspect he'll do well at AA as well.
  18. Why is Duran at least two years away? He's in AA right now. He should start next year at AAA.
  19. That's like saying you should have hit at 19 in blackjack because the next card ended up being a deuce. They don't have a crystal ball. They don't know if Dyson is going to perform below, at, or above his established talent level. They don't know how his teammates are going to perform in the postseason. They needed bullpen help, and Davis was a fair price to pay for it. They didn't get played, no matter how the results turn out.
