  1. His pick position is sunk cost at this point, I like the idea of fast tracking him in the role he knows if this front office deems that is the best move. He has some nasty stuff that is going to play way up in the pen. Falveyco was brought in to overhaul the pitching program, I am willing and excited to see the results of a new modern approach in this system. TR thought he had an ace up his sleeve drafting big college bullpen arms minus the wear and tear of being a starter. I don't think its going to be real shocking if that doesn't amount to mlb starters.
  2. I think Chargois is the heir apparent. Burdi is still a wildcard from the minors eventually too. Kintzler was a nice surprise last year but I see a lot of Jared Burton in him. Perkins is better used as a setup guy even if he does get most of the way back.
  3. Former Twins hired back into the organization --- check Appear interested in big name free agents --- check Appear interested in big trade --- check Sign 1 cheap veteran position player - check Lackluster bullpen addition (preferably from the NL) --- check Whelp off season is done, are we sure it wasn't Rob Antony pulling the levers all these years with TR as some baseball euphemisms spouting puppet figure? More seriously Belisle for 2 mil is fine, as a 6th/ 7th innings eater guy. Belisle for setup man/closer single piece to fix the bullpen is Twins.
  4. Hammel would be a decent enough move, but really he is another in the Gibson/Hughes/Santiago/Placeholder bin. I would rather they just give the young guys ample opportunities to take a rotation spot and run with it.
  5. MLB - Castro/ Murphy AAA - Garver/ Centeno?
  6. With the Dodgers needing to go cheaper yet still wanting vets to make another run I wonder if Perkins would interest them as a Jansen replacement. I would happily include him to sweeten the return and LA does like its blockbuster trades.
  7. Hermann was not a good defensive catcher hence playing the outfield often, and he may have a little higher average with backup plate appearances but it would suffer from exposure. Butera is excellent defensively but the improved offense is a low plate appearence mirage. Neither are starting calibre with Castro has proven to be, hes not a top 10 guy or anything but hes an average starter at a premium position.
  8. Great pitch framer, questionable blocking skills, noodle arm, mediocre bat. Hes no world beater but he at least has one legit mlb skill and is passable at others. Good catchers are very hard to acquire unless its through your minor leagues or through your wallet at the top of the free agent pool. I like this addition, watching Suzuki/ Doumit for a few years made me pine for DruBu and his defense. I do wish Castro was better against the running game but then he would have cost more and had a larger market.
  9. I think Thome, Willingham, and Vargas have him beat in the slow department, but that doesn't really say anything positive for Plouffe. He kinda became the anti-Dozier, came up incredibly pull happy and lost power as he started to try and hit the ball the other way.
  10. I complained about him when he was here but these last couple years have really made me miss DruBu. If you aren't going to have a top tier catcher that can hit and field (which are expensive and rare), I would much rather have an all glove guy. Castro seems like the best option to me, and cross your fingers Garver turns out. They could target someone in a trade again but teams aren't going to part with good catching prospects for what the Twins have to offer.
  11. I think Falvey brings in a new pitching coach for sure, his major selling point was Cleveland's modern advanced pitching approach and he isn't going to replicate that with Neil Allen or keeping any of the Twins old approach to it. Molitor seems to be staying but may well have the same fate after another crappy finish next year. Bruno deserves a lot of credit for Dozier, but few others seem to have flourished under him. Mientkiewicz intrigues me and it will be interesting to see how the new regime handles him. He seems kind of Gardy school but gets great reviews and has had impressive success. I liked him over Molitor before and still do, he has a connection with the next wave of prospects and is a rising commodity in the coaching market.
  12. The more I see the more I love this hire. Falvey is a massive change in approach for this organization. Watching some of that SABR Conference its exciting to think of that approach to the Twins. I think there are some massive growing pains ahead, but the approach to those has just gotten a hell of lot more modern and competitive. Kudos to Korn Ferry they helped bring modern baseball and basketball to Minnesota for organizations stuck in the past and behind the curve.
  13. Mcleod seems to be in a higher tier than the rest in experience and connections, I would focus the efforts on getting him. I really like the idea of Bloom being a young guy that started as an advanced stats analyst and rose through a forward thinking organization fast, but it might be a very tall task for a young guy on his first shot to completely change the way this org does everything. Its interesting there are two guys from in the division as they have seen and dealt with the Twins more. No Rob Antony, please no Rob Antony.
  14. Dozier's season has been awesome, I was about ready to give up on him in late May. I still think he should be traded because he is peaking at a time when the Twins suck and presents a real gamble going forward if not moved. Its not a great comparison but I think of Josh Willingham and how they failed to cash his great year in for assets. Is Dozier's prime worth more hitting 40 hr for a 100 loss ball club or in the potential of whoever he brings back for the next good Twins team.
  15. Bruno seems very power/ pull focused, a skill set that matches some players while not fitting others at all. Buxton needs to forget trying to hit home runs or fly balls and work on a short contact swing to put the ball on the ground. His speed is so massive and its completely wasted when he is popping or striking out.
  16. Angel's must really like Meyer because they traded a better SP and a younger guy that isn't that far off from what hopes for Meyer have become. I am excited about Santiago, big upgrade from Nolasco for next year and about the same contract window so they didn't get locked into anyone for 4 years to ditch Ricky.
  17. Its time to let Berrios go for the rest of the season, full on audition don't mess around with him. next season rotation Santana Berrios Gibson May Mejia Santana - I doubt the asking price will be paid and I am not super upset by that. Santana is a proven innings eater vet who can buoy a weak staff as a 2/3 or be a solid 4 on a real staff. Berrios - has beaten AAA its time for him take on the MLB. He has the stuff to be a legit 2 fringe 1, though he has some hurdles to overcome. May - its time to make a decision his fastball plays up in the pen and he can be a good 7th maybe 8th inning guy or his solid but not dominating four pitch mix makes him a good 4, fingers really crossed 3 in the rotation. I side towards the starter because its easier to find back end pen. Gibson - Has been inconsistent but I still think the sinker/ slider/ change mix he has is all plus, the potential for a solid 3 is there in my mind but he is a 4 now. Mejia seems like a close to mlb starter ready, 3/4 lefty with a good fastball, and ok offspeed stuff that has room to improve. I think Duffey is best suited as a reliever long term. His curve is legit nasty, so nasty it allowed him to have a really nice run as a starter. His other stuff unfortunately lacks in a big way. Playing that curve up and letting the fastball go 100% in the pen seems wise.
  18. The helmet flying off every time he takes more that 5 steps is collectively my favorite Nunez moment. There are only going to be depressing Twins drinking games now.
  19. I really like this trade. Nunez has had a really nice year, but I think he is best served as a utility guy into the future. Getting a close to the majors, young, lefty with some stuff and pitch-ability is an awesome return for the investment put into Nunez. Time to let Polanco shine, and hopefully Mejia can see some major league innings this year.
  20. Pohlad needs to call up Glen Taylor and get that Korn-Ferry number and let them head the search.
  21. Oh no doubt he has been terrible, the Wolves have been maybe the worst franchise in professional sports. However he stepped up this off season and made a quick informed decision to get his pick of the best coaches on the market. Kudos to him for not penny pinching and going for it finally.
