  1. I think the people who are saying our SP is already stable and hasn't been an issue so we don't' need a SP are probably worried about winning the division and not making any noise in the post season. Need a legitimate #1 or #2 starter if you have any chance at winning playoff games. A playoff rotation of say Castillo, Gray, Ryan at the front of the rotation is the minimum you'll need. Also strengthens bullpen by allowing Ober, smeltzer, ect.. to throw out of the bullpen come postseason. Winder, Ober are fun young guys with upside who hopefully are longterm answers for us but when you get to the postseason again Houston, NYY or TOR they have proven pitchers with really good lineups. Need an Ace to go against those lineups come postseason. Winder, Ober, Smelzter round out the rotation nicely to win a bad division and be ok with no post season success.
  2. Few other names that aren't so much reclamation projects but pitchers who could become available or have been named as available who could probably help the rotation and not cost a huge prospect package. David Price- has been the bullpen and not what he was but could be used in the postseason with a ton of experience in the postseason Jose Quintana- Should be a cheap get (doesn't move the needle much) Noah Syndergaard- If the Angels keeps sliding he could be a nice pitcher to snag for the postseason push and if he is successful hopefully enjoys his time and resign this winter. Blake Snell/Mike Clevinger- Padres won't fall out of the race because of all of their arms but because of injuries could the Twins entice them to move off of one of their arms for a bat? Kepler or Urshella maybe in exchange for one of the arms? Snell coming back from injury and so maybe more likely of the 2 but Clevinger is a FA this winter as well.
  3. That's not a rotation you want to go into the post season with IMO. Gray and Ryan yes....Ober, Archer and Smeltzer/Bundy are not ideal starting pitchers against the yankees, blue jays. astros, etc.. Kendricks and Marques should both be cheap prospect wise and if they aren't willing to sell prospects for a Castillo, Montas type starter than they need to throw some darts and hope something works because we've seen what the current guys have and I don't' want to see that come postseason if they get in!
  4. Perfect time to use Kepler with some prospects to get a SP that can be added to the rotation to help this year. Between Celestino, Kirilloff and Larnach or even Gordon they can handle the corner OF spots and shouldn't lose much prodcution from what they are getting from Kepler.
