  1. Depth. Celestino getting hurt. Gordon banged up. Twins think he may be better than Contreras and want to find out. Someone is going on the IL and Larnach is starting the season with the Twins. He can play CF relatively well. All are good reasons to add minor league depth and give the guy a try on a minor league contract. Probably bad news for guys like Keirsey (who I like) and Prato.
  2. Totally agree. Most everyone said that last Septembers injury was an aberration. I hope everyone is right. I see a guy who played while somewhat injured for years (kudos to him for playing every day but it may have taken its toll), who looked like an old man while walking last September, and who hasn't been seen in spring training this year. The Twins will be much better with a healthy Polanco this year, but will he be healthy??
  3. You can find plenty of young guys who can throw strikes and top out at 90 mph. 99% of them won't make it the majors. Let this young guy who already throws it at 97 mph focus on control first and then he can start locating the pitches better and the hits will go down. Sounds like he has already been improving on things over the past year. He's my pick to rise like David Festa did last year.
  4. Castro, Lee, and Wallner were 6 for 10 at the top of the order, facing Manoah for more than half the AB's.
  5. Duly noted. But if Camargo wanted to make it to the majors, he could also see his best shot in Minnesota. One rotten season from Jeffers in 2023 would open up a spot for someone like him in 2024 as a backup if he had a great year with the Saints. But you are probably right as nobody seems excited about him.
  6. I'm going with 13-13 with two snow/rainouts. I don't think it's the most important month of the season because there aren't any games against Cleveland. Even though there are less, the months when we play Cleveland and Chicago more will still be the most important.
  7. I wouldn't list Williams as a catching prospect. Look how little he plays at catcher. Jair Camargo must not be as good as I thought. He seemed to actually play catcher more than other positions, has some pop in his bat (at least he did at AA last year), and is only 23. I thought his defense was good but am only going on what people on TD say. Nobody is talking about him and he isn't getting a shot with the Twins in spring training. Can someone tell me why he isn't a good prospect?
  8. This is not a duplicate post. Miranda has homered again! Shoulder still not affecting his swing.
  9. Miranda homered against Pittsburgh in the other game. At least his shoulder isn't affecting his swing.
  10. I think you are forgetting about Wallner. Plus, Buxton always starts out the year playing. If we suddenly start seeing Martin playing LF every day in spring training, that's when we will know that the injuries are affecting the start of the year in the OF. And if Santana and Pagan have to be jettisoned to make room for someone, I'm not sure that isn't a positive.
  11. The projected AA rotation in Wichita is looking exciting as well - Headrick, Enlow, Festa with Raya probably joining later in the year.
  12. No harm in giving these guys a shot. There are always lots of moves on the back end of the 40 man roster. When the first catcher injury comes up, it will require a 40 man move to bring up a catcher from the Saints. Catch lightning in a bottle one time and it makes the other 19 moves that didn't work on the 40th man on the roster all worth it. Never know about relievers from one year to the next with many of them.
  13. Only in the injury category so far. If they believe Lewis will keep getting injured, that would be the only reason to have Steer above Lewis (and I loved Steer's hitting in the minors). Another much talked about prospect who was traded is once again injured, much like Lewis - that is Ben Rortvedt. He can't seem to catch a break either. Maybe it was just good luck to trade him or we would be complaining about another injured prospect.
  14. Well, include me in the confused category then. Gordon sure isn't going to see time in the infield now. Unless there is actually a trade coming up with Kepler and there will be more room in LF for Gordon.
  15. I'm thinking it's a Jake Cave like signing, having depth at AAA. When a spot is needed on the 40 man, they will try run him through waivers.
  16. I am cheering for him as well. Just think his shot is to pitch great at AAA and get traded to a team that has a spot. Only chance would be to sneak in a spot in the long relief role with the Twins before SWR, Varland, etc. are promoted. I just don't think he will be able to prove himself in time to do it. The injuries/performance the past two years cost him his chance when the Twins really needed someone.
  17. 17 pitchers and that's not counting Woods-Richardson, Varland and Ober. Guess that's why they have 7 catchers on the roster!
  18. No Jax and no Alcala. I don't think it is very likely that we release both of them.
  19. I am really excited to see Lewis back this year. And I think he will be in the OF quite a bit. Therefore, with his injury history, I want him playing OF with the Saints to get the reps in as he just hasn't played out there a lot in recent times (90% of people posting on TD were elated when Rocco was playing him in CF and now 50% seem to say it's Rocco's fault for even playing him out there). I think he will be very good in the OF and add to our great defense out there with Buxton, Taylor, Gallo, and Kepler (still think there is one too many). By the time Lewis gets back, injuries and bad hitting from someone will have sorted this out.
  20. Now MLB is going to enforce the balk rule. That is going to make base stealers even more important. The Twins may not be ready for more base stealing this year but some of their guys in the minors have some speed (Martin, Lewis, even Julien and Wallner), so maybe next year. Unlike many others, I do believe Rocco will have runners steal more bases if they can actually steal, and not risk injury doing it (Buxton).
  21. Chafin is signed as well. Maybe the Twins have about hit their internal salary cap and won't sign anyone unless they think he's better than what we've got and is willing to play for $1 million this year.
  22. The position would be catcher. Catchers usually get hurt. But we are going to do just like last year with Godoy. Keep bringing up catchers, putting them on the 40 man, sending them back down. They run out of options and someone picks them up on waivers, on to the next guy. Therefore, the catchers will be a number of different guys. Therefore, I picked Coulumbe. Kind of funny to look at the Saints and Wichita Wind Surge rosters right now, even though they don't mean a lot. The Saints have 7 catchers and 5 OF's. The Wind Surge have 3 catchers with Kiersey the only OF (guess he's the fastest guy we have in the minors so can cover a LOT of ground!).
  23. I've heard about the swings but not the soreness. What report did I miss, what's the source?
