  1. No thank you on Price (hello Steve Carlton?) But I would be talking to Oakland daily as the price tag will only increase in the days to come. Plant Frankie in the mix with Ryan and Gray (and perhaps Ober) your chances of getting to October increase and that's not an embarrassing rollout of starters once you get there. I guess after the Houston debacle they have to be wondering if a window is truly open.
  2. At least Ray had a pedigree in Baltimore. All this guy has is his bubble gum and as bad as Miller was he runs circles around this doofus. Incidentally, the GM took note of both Millers' failures and the mistake made in hiring him and got rid of him quickly. We're long past this guys expiration date.
  3. Only the worst manager in franchise history could have me screaming at the TV in a game where the Twins powered their way to 11-2 advantage. Yes Mr. Jax has been effective. But if you were paying attention instead of staring stupidly into the stadium lights you might have noticed he wasn't nearly as sharp last night. So he gives up a couple. No sweat! But the sirens should have been going off when he follows that up by walking the leadoff hitter on 4 pitches (and the reason he failed as a starter is the second time thru would often bite him on the backside.) Instead Rocco is so engaged in his game of PacMan he waits until the hitter stepping into the box has a chance to make it a one run game before he stumbles out to the mound. At least he had the cushion of having his 3 leverage guys rested but apparently Smith hasn't been stretched out enough to go beyond about 8 pitches so after 4 pitches he removes him from the game, forcing him into torching the bullpen in a game that should have been a laugher. MORON!!! Keep swinging Buck, congrats Mr. Lewis and, as always, go Twins! But until that albatross is sent packing it is impossible for me to get truly excited about a club I have been passionate about since Opening Day in the Bronx in 1961. ANY American Legion coach would be an improvement.
  4. This morning I'm reminded of the amusing anecdote told by Jim Bouton in Ball Four. A youngster comes home from a pick-up game and Dad asks him how he did. The lad replies "I had a no-hitter until the big kids got out of the school." For the Twins the big kids get out of school this week. Love what they're doing so far but in May I tend to curb my enthusiasm. Go Twins!
  5. Well said. To compare Rocco (the worst manager in team history) to TK (the best manager in team history) one of them believed you put players in the best possible position for them to succeed.
  6. Just the most recent example that Rocco is unable to manage a baseball game and chew gum at the same time. Perhaps he was nearing a personal best at PacMan and neglected to look up from his laptop long enough to notice what was taking place on the field, On a positive note he's doing his lineup for a week from Friday and has decided it will be time to give Buxton another "planned" day off. Many good things so far this season but the manager is an albatross who must be given his walking players for this team to truly succeed.
  7. I believe CBS had the Twins at #3 on Opening Day in 2021 so there's that on the credibility front but what I'm seeing so far may have some sustainability. I would still have daily conversations with Oakland, as much for getting to October as doing something when they there.
  8. Very solid assessment. If the Twins want to get really serious about playing in October and doing something when they get there I would still have daily conversations with Oakland before the deadline arrives and the price becomes exorbitant, Otherwise their greatest weakness remains the worst manager on the planet. If he flushes 16 wins as he did in 2021 get the butter because they are toast.
  9. I had a glimmer of hope for Rocco following the game changing back-to-back bunts until he admitted the players did it on their own.
  10. My eyes tell me what the internet cannot. Try it sometime.
  11. A couple of take-aways: Rocco's use of the bullpen following an off day was atrocious. Repeat he is the worst manager in franchise history and no one else is even close. I, too, see a glimmer of spark in Sano and the baserunning fiasco last night started in the 3rd base coaches' box. For the most part the starting pitchers are pounding the zone and that may result in some solos but a very encouraging sign. Mostly good if they can survive the managerial mistakes as they did in 2019 (and the shortened 2020).
  12. While I am as frustrated as anyone with the enigma that is Mr. Sano he has become the fans whipping boy at a level that is patently unfair. Examples: He's massively overweight (he shed 25 pounds), he doesn't care (see weight loss), he's terrible defensively (he isn't.) Admittedly many at bats are brutal, but given his propensity to start slowly he was harmed more than most by the abbreviated ST, umpires have the widest zone and the most liberal interpretation of "checked swing" when he's in the box, criticized for ripping a ball 108MPH because Grossman's inept and vilified for the base running fiasco last night when the blame rests with the 3B coach. And the Twins haven't had anything resembling a decent hitting coach since 2019 (so a couple of still formative years.) So yes, I will continue to cut him some slack if only perhaps because a number that screams at me: Through age 28 season 161 HR, Nelson Cruz 55 HR. Incidentally his at bats have produced 2 of the last 5 victories, Patience does have an expiration date. I'm just not quite there yet.
  13. Not exactly. Two ways to play that. Halfway (which I prefer in that situation given he's already in scoring position and you're at the bottom of the lineup) or tag up, which he did not do immediately. Given the noodle that Grossman calls a throwing arm you HAVE to score that runner. Period. And by throwing up the stop sign the 3rd base coach caused all of the chaos.
  14. Sorry, when a game is on the line and your choices are Celestino and his .100 BA or the player you signed for $216,000 per game the choice should not be that difficult. Rocco is the worst manager in franchise history, bar none. As a follow-up to a couple of previous comments T.K. might give one of his "big knockers" (as he called them) a day off, but never at home. The ticket holders didn't pay to see how Correa looks sitting on the bench.
  15. That's one thing about baseball. No matter how many games you've watched there's always a chance you'll see something you've never seen before. Rocco couldn't manage a 2 stool lunch counter, the 3B coach is to blame for that fiasco (not Sano), yet they win, despite what the manager has described as "boo, boos." What is this kindergarten? After an of day some might wonder why the two best arms in the bullpen never took their jackets off? But Happy Day, 5 in a row with Ryan on the bump and the Sox sniffing pale hose.
  16. I can not think of one instance where Rocco demonstrated managerial excellence that led to a victory. But I do know this: In 2021 had ANY other ML manager been in the Twins dugout in 2021 their win total would have increased by 16. Not quite enough to see October but more than enough to make September interesting. He is in so far over his head it's embarrassing.
  17. Totally agree with #9. Correa should have hit for Celestino for heaven's sake and there's a reasonable chance the game doesn't see extras. Wonderful win by Rocco is the worst manager in franchise history and it's not even close.
  18. Absolutely loved the Buxton heroics, but without that 10th inning bomb the worst manager in the history of the franchise has egg on his face again. With a very real chance to take the lead he allows Celestino and his .130 BA to take a swing while their $216K per game man enjoys his "planned" day off. He gets out of his lounge chair and there's a decent possibility the game doesn't go to extras. Then he goes to short, Gordon goes to left. Done deal! Rocco is the albatross around this team's neck.
  19. As someone who has followed this team since Opening Day '61 I have worshiped #3, watched #6 do amazing things with pitches no where near the zone, was in awe of the magic in #29's Silver bat and of course relished the overall wonder of #34 and I don't say this lightly. #25 is the most gifted player ever to don a Twins uniform.
