Gimenez isn't performing so poorly that they need to dump him now (see Breslow, Craig). They can wait five weeks and call up Garver September 1 and at that point, relegate Gimenez to performing the task for which he is best suited, namely pitching mop-up in games that are out of hand.

Article: How Fast Is Byron Buxton?
Teddy replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Frankly, I would love to see a stat like Viscosity. It would show who is the most smooth at top speed. Of course, purists like Dan Gladden would tell me to simply open my eyes and watch, but where's the fun in that? We don't watch baseball for fun, do we? -
I'd have to think the Twins would need to be out of contention a month from now for them to become sellers and move Grossman. Frankly, it makes a LOT of sense, as with his OBP, he'd be a great bench bat for a contending team. I just don't see him being traded if the Twins are still in contention by the trade deadline.

Article: Coming Soon: Starting Pitching (But How Soon?)
Teddy replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they don't put him on the 40 man roster this offseason, he'll be exposed to the Rule 5 draft, and I doubt highly they'd want to expose him.- 95 replies

Article: Coming Soon: Starting Pitching (But How Soon?)
Teddy replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Seth, I found this a bit curious. For both Romero and Jorge, you have the same OPS in each of the first three months: The OPS against him in April was .853. In May, that dropped to .705, and in June so far, it’s just .676. That seems statistically unlikely, and I wonder if it's an oversight?- 95 replies

When Twins become sellers, Escobar likely first to be traded

Oh, and I'd shop Belisle & Breslow too. Not that there'd be too many takers.- 13 comments

When Twins become sellers, Escobar likely first to be traded
Teddy commented on GoGonzoJournal's blog entry in Minnesota Foul Play-by-play
Escobar and Dozier are two of my favorite current Twins, but it makes sense to shop both, along with Grossman. There are replacements ready (or nearly so) in the minors in Engelb Vielma, Nick Gordon and Zach Granite respectively. All three of those guys might be in the Twins' long-term plans, where it's highly unlikely any of the three current Twins (Esco, Dozier & Grossman) will be.- 13 comments

Article: Eight Weeks In: Twins Trends And Tidbits
Teddy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The problem is that only two of those guys are on the 40-man roster (R. Rosario and Melotakis). Somebody would need to be dropped to add one of those guys, and once they're added, taking them off the 40-man would expose them to waivers, so it's not like you can just shuttle them in and out on options. If Hughes' shoulder doesn't get any better, he might be an option for the 60-day DL, which would open up a spot, and they could always dump Tepesch, Rucinski and/or Wheeler (whom I'd like to see get a legit shot before he gets sent back down) to make room, and in that event, my first two choices from AA to add to the 40-man would probably be Curtis and Bard. I don't trust Busenitz (it takes more than flames at the top level) and Hildenberger needs more seasoning, and will likely be nothing more than that sidearm guy out of the pen every team seems to have (see Bradford, Chad).- 56 replies

I respectfully disagree, Howie. Each of those three AA arms have bigger potential than probably a guy like Mejia or Santiago, so there's no reason to mortgage the future just because the team is out-performing expectations this year. Stick to the plan. Personally, once he gets a couple more starts, I expect we'll see Nik Turley before Slegers, Hurlbut or Wheeler. And does Gibson make it to the weekend before they swap him out for Mejia?

Article: Duffey Presents Pleasant Dilemma For Twins
Teddy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gonsalves has that shoulder issue that they just took a look at, and tests came back negative. He's not ready for this jump yet, anyway. Berrios still needs a couple more starts, and I think they'll give Gibson and Hughes at least two more months to figure things out. One of the five is bound to get injured in the next few weeks, which will allow them to slot a hungry and more proven Berrios into the rotation. -
Article: ByungHo Park Tries To Catch Up By Slowing Down
Teddy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This approach is the least risk-averse. It gives Falvine a couple of months to evaluate Vargas, Mauer and the 1B/DH spots, while allowing Park to prove he can master AAA. However, if Park is not up by sometime in June, it's a bad sign for his long-term future as a member of the Twins. -
Article: MRI Reveals Torn UCL For Trevor May
Teddy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This one hurts. I was really hoping May could take off in the rotation, leading to a trade of one (or more) of Gibson, Santiago or Hughes to make way for the higher-upside arms (Gonsalves, Berrios & Mejia). I'm afraid that this setback will now keep those three on the mound (barring health issues with one or more of them) all season. -
Article: Five Remaining Free Agent Fits
Teddy replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Personally, I don't want to sign any starters if it means putting Trevor May back in the bullpen. We need to see if he can be a quality starter, once and for all. As for the bullpen, I know Molitor wants another veteran out there, but I don't see Scott Feldman as the guy to fit that need. And frankly, Drew doesn't have it anymore, and I'm not sure Jackson is worth of the investment either. I'm cool with standing pat, at least until July 31 and letting Falvine see what they have to work with.- 80 replies

Article: Don't Sleep On Phil Hughes
Teddy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Hughes' role this year all depends on the velocity he shows late in spring training. If he's back with the low-90's fastball he showed three years ago, he'll be in the rotation. If he's topping out at 87-89, he'll be a very expensive, "we've got to put him somewhere, so stick him in mop-up duty in the bullpen" guy. -
Article: Gleeman & The Geek, Ep 285: Jason Castro

The Twins 40-man roster Part 1: Who should stay and who should go
Teddy commented on Thrylos's blog entry in Thrylos' Blog - select Tenth Inning Stretch posts
I would disagree on Wimmers. I think he was showing signs near the end of the season that he may be worth keeping around. Also, if they can acquire another catcher this offseason, Centeno needs to go. Frankly, I think they need two catchers and leave Murphy in AAA until he proves he's worthy of coming up. -
In looking at Gonsalves' numbers, the walks look like a bit of a concern. Not having seen much video of his pitching, is that a fastball command issue (similar to Berrios)? Or is it a matter of needing further refinement of his other pitches?

So, 42 possible points to be given out across 21 voting slots by 7 voters. Two pitchers out of the 21 slots on the list. Sounds about right for what we saw this year. I really hope we see mostly pitchers on this list next year.- 27 replies

Article: What Do We Know About Derek Falvey?
Teddy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I for one am very happy that Jim Polhad and Dave St. Peter went outside of their comfort zones with a fresh perspective. This is likely the seeds of a huge culture change within the organization, one that is welcomed and sorely needed. -

Article: 2016 Twins Minor League All-Star Team
Teddy replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great list, Seth. I will say, though, that I'm a bit concerned about the development of these guys seeing the lack of fundamentals in so many of the guys the Twins called up this year. I'll be curious to see what changes the new regime implements with regards to player development.- 27 replies

Article: Early Returns: Polanco's Play At Shortstop
Teddy replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As much as I love the guy, I'm firmly in the "Trade Dozier and Put Polanco at 2B" camp. Trading Dozier right now could yield a Knoblauch-level return, which as we've seen with the Detroit Tigers, could give a huge boost to the pitching staff. Frankly, as Dozier said over the past few days, it all depends on who the GM is going to be.- 60 replies
