Yeah I remembered Gonsalves losing time for disciplinary reasons and dropped a little down the draft board but the more that came out about the story it wasn't character issues (covering for friends with pot involved) . And if you have ever met Stephen, you'd think he's the nicest guy because he really is.- 720 replies

Have the Twins ever drafted a player with questionable character issues? Just asking, don't know and couldn't think of any. Just always seems like it's been a "good guy clean" organization.- 720 replies

The Cubs AND Rangers could screw you over twice before the Twins pick. Luckily for Twins, I think Cubs are looking at a college arm and a prep bat.- 720 replies

And a freak injury to Prior being tossed over Marcus Giles' shoulder around the bases and it might have been a bad call. http://images.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/_photos/2003-07-12-inside-prior-gil.jpg- 720 replies

Some prep pitchers that look to fall are Hans Crouse, Blayne Enlow, Blake Heatherly, Alex Scherff, some are saying Baz though I doubt he drops that low.- 720 replies

Oh I know exactly what they meant but if the team takes someone they don't identify as the BPA in order to hopefully get a draftee faller then yes it's being cheap. And they better spend their allotment (14,156,800) and then a little more as they can go up to 5% over (so ~14.8M) before they're penalized a draft pick.- 720 replies

With Terry Ryan out and a new guard in, I thought Twindom might not hear "it's coming down to money" for the first pick overall, but I guess that's wrong.- 720 replies

Article: Twins Daily Official MLB Draft Day 1
Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As a Cubs fan, way back in 2013, I said the same thing during the draft; we need pitching, lots and lots of pitching. The Cubs had the #2 overall pick instead of picking a college arm with a plus fastball, plus breaking ball, future plus change and picked the power college bat with defensive and contact questions. It turned out alright, as Kris Bryant has developed nicely and quickly while the other guy I wanted, Jon Gray, has slowly turned into a stud for Colorado.- 720 replies

Aiken, Allard, Garrett. Allard was a stress reaction in his lower back not Tommy John. The 19 year old is now in AA and putting together a damn good season for his age and competition.- 720 replies

He'd be in the talks for 1:1, this draft is not very deep at all, most the talent is Top 20-30 prospects after that it starts to get murky. Also this is one of the worst years for middle infield whether prep or college.- 720 replies

Article: Twins Daily Official MLB Draft Day 1
Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Gordon alot and have seen him play since his Sophomore year in high school, I've always loved the strong hit tool, quick wrists, fast feet and still growing power as well as staying in the middle infield. But Lewis' total package eclipses him even if he has to switch off to 3B. And McKay has to be 1st overall if the organization thinks he's an "ace" or middle of lineup hitter. I'll never forget at a Perfect Game event in Ft Myers, Nick Gordon was playing and his brother Dee and father Tom were in the stands watching, I got to talk to them both as I was a huge Flash fan back in day and love Dee's wheels. When I told Dee I was big fan of his game play, and he said if you think I'm good you should see my brother. He's going to be better than me. Tom just stood there shaking his head agreeign.- 720 replies

Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes Buxton was clocked up to 98 on the mound his senior year. There is YUGE difference between two way playing in HS and two way playing in College, especially a D1 school. By concentrating solely on pitching, skills are honed instead of getting by with athletic ability. McKay is considered the first real Top 5 pick as a pitcher and as a hitter since Dave Winfield in 1973.- 720 replies

Article: Twins Daily Official MLB Draft Day 1
Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Draft is a gamble we all know that, McKay is a good way to go if you want to bet your dollar and get your dollar back. In other words, he's safe that he'll be a big leaguer but you're not going to walk away from the table rich, you also won't walk away broke. Personally, I wouldn't go that route especially with him on the mound. The talk of Royce Lewis is very intriguing, he's a five tool infield talent and he'll save you some money early on (how much is the big question) to take a fallen prospect at 35 or 37 which there will be a few left as there always are. But I'm in the Wright camp at this point, due to the ceiling/floor combo.- 720 replies

Yes, he should and is definitely in the talk still but he's not going to sign "significantly" underslot than say other elite HS talent such as Hunter Greene or Royce Lewis. If you want that you need to dig a little deeper say a Jordon Adell, Austin Beck, or Shane Baz or go a different route like a Pavin Smith, JB Bukauskas. Of the top 3 HS talents, Lewis is reportedly more likely to sign for underslot than the two pitchers.

Article: The Wright Fit?
Bob Sacamento replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No, what I said was that at the times of the draft, Gibson's secondary was considered better than where Wright's secondary is at this point. Wright had Gibson on FB velo and stuff, Gibson had Wright on command/control. Am I saying that Wright will be worse than Gibson? No. Am I saying that Wright will be better than Gibson? No. So what was the purpose of all the Gibson and Wright comparisons? To temper down expectations and to remind everyone there are no guarantees with the draft, scouting, and health even with "mature" draftees. As for Hunter Greene, Matt Harrington is nowhere near the comp, not even close. BA on Greene: Even with all that said, I'd still take Wright 1:1 and hope I don't have a Portland Trailblazers scenario where you have to watch one of the elite players for the next decade plus play against you. (1984 Blazers took Sam Bowie over some guy named Michael Jordan, then in 2007 took Greg Oden over some guy named Kevin Durant) -
Article: The Wright Fit?
Bob Sacamento replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That scouting report (2009 Kyle Gibson preDraft), puts him right there with Wright. Comparatively for their respective drafts, Gibson was rated as having better command and control. Gibson rated as having better secondary pitches. While Wright gets the nod for velo and fastball stuff. I know it might be Revisionist history and many of you are tainted by present day Gibson but coming out of the draft Kyle was considered a stud, then baseball happened. BA on Wright -
Article: 2017 Twins 10-round Mock Draft
Bob Sacamento replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hey I'm a Cubs fan, you don't have to tell me that, thus the drafting of advanced college hitting prospects (with defensive position questions) has worked well of late: Kris Bryant (most didn't think Bryant was a 3B in the future), Kyle Schwarber (most didn't see him at anywhere but DH/1B), Ian Happ (played nowhere too well) the last three drafts where they've had a first rounder.- 30 replies
