  1. Great read, and have me cause for optimism for his HOF case, which I thought was fading fast. Would be nice if Joe could make another run at batting title and some post-season glory to put a good finish. It may also help that in the post-testing era, aging curves will likely return to normal.
  2. I watched the pre-game show of the All-Star Game with my sons, and the first few innings. They had lots of highlights from the first half, yet literally the only Twins clip was of Torii throwing a temper tantrum. I can't believe they didn't show the Hicks' Willie Mays catch-even though he was actually there. It got me thinking that it would be nice to see the Twins get back to more than an afterthought. It made me think it would be nice to see Sano and Buxton, and Mauer again as All-Stars. Hicks could turn into an "it takes a while for it all to click" type player...a player with raw talent, high draft pedigree, but early career struggles. Brian Dozier, Trevor Plouffe, Glen Perkins...Aaron Hicks? Not all above average players excel immediately.
  3. I agree with John...that Sano quote sounds like bulletin board material.
  4. Doesn't it seem like if you focus low and away, he will become a .400 OBP player, still with 25 homers?
  5. Pelfrey last five starts: 24.1IP, 8.50 ERA, 2.21WHIP, 4.1K/9. And that's with an 8IP, 1 run effort included.
  6. As a general principle, I am not sure this is true. But when it comes to international baseball prospects, I would agree.
  7. Bullpen this year? Man it would have been nice to have Meyer come into the game yesterday. Twins need some help in the pen quick.
  8. Who had the Twins with 42 wins after Santana's suspension was over? Not me. What a nice surprise. Get him in the rotation and move Pelfrey to the pen.
  9. Baseball is a damn hard sport. Here is a guy who absolutely dominates as the best player at his position for years, and now- whether it is a result of concussions, defensive shifts, or just aging-he is working hard and struggling to find a fraction of the zoned-in hitter he was so consistently. He's not old--32 should mean he has plenty of almost-prime left. I think we haven't seen the last of Joe Mauer yet. He is going to be a big contributor on a winning Twins team - or teams - before his contract is up.
  10. Trying to figure out the base running gaffe in ETown....2nd and 3rd, one out, ground ball...run doesn't score AND runner on second out at third?
  11. Carlos Gomez...Bryce Harper...Byron Buxton...Andre Agassi.... Players who have a ton of natural talent and absolutely go for it at 100mph on every single play. Early in their career they can't harness that speed. But when they learn to control it, they become stars.
  12. Why did you say "recall," John? This is his first time up...right?
  13. Let's be honest, there is a LOT of death and destruction in Looney Tunes. Also, everything falls faster than an anvil.
  14. Is it too much to ask for a Buxton triple, infield single (on a routine ground out), a stolen base, and two snags of liners to the gap tonight?
  15. Great article. This is a nice problem to have. I think people should also consider the possibility of Trevor Plouffe playing some OF for the Twins moving forward...
  16. Tobi--That is a fair call, if buzz-kill-worthy in your sober assessment. I'm adjusting the line accordingly to 4.5.
  17. Did not see a single 3B on that list. Can I expect and/or predict a pair of them today?
  18. I'm setting the over-under on triples for June at 5....which side do you want?
  19. What happened to the first baseman? He's hitting 50 points below his career norm and getting on base 70 lower than normal.
