  1. Plus the endorsement opportunities dwarf any difference in taxes. I can’t even imagine how much money he is going to make in nyc outside of his contract.
  2. This the mantra I’ve been beating to death. Put players in their best long term position so they can develop into the best fielder possible. Martin could be a plus player in the bigs but probably at 2nd or left field. Just play him there right now.
  3. Basically he said nothing other than letting us know that Farmer will be our starting SS. Which is fine.
  4. Martin wasn’t even the starting SS on his college team. No scout says he has a chance to play short in the bigs. Why our FO continues to play him there is another of the many things I don’t understand.
  5. This is the most plausible explanation. They almost certainly are going to insure the contract and the insurance company is going to have a much tighter view on what is acceptable.
  6. It’s time to find out what Lewis can do. He was the first player taken in the draft so he has some level of ability. It’s also important from the standpoint of maximizing an asset. If he plays a position other than short then his value is substantially less.
  7. I liked the trades at the deadline last year. I was also ready to dfa Griffin Jax after his poor first year as a starter. Other than that I’ve pretty much been right ?
  8. That’s one of his challenges: a front office that doesn’t believe in him. I would give him a boatload of time at SS in spring training and see what happens.
  9. Yea I’m still skeptical. It’s not been the MO of the Twins to invest substantial dollars to starting pitching and Gray will get substantial dollars.
  10. Josh Bell was the guy they should have targeted.
  11. I see references to extending either of the pitchers. This FO wouldn’t extend Berrios who was younger better and more durable. Why the hell would they extend these guys? The only logical reason is they really don’t have a plan.
  12. I’m glad they passed on this. He’s not a proven hitter so no way to that contract. Let’s move on to Lewis manning short for the next 8 years.
  13. I’ve got news for you. They’ve been stepping back without knowing it. If they blow it up Falvine has to go. You want those guys overseeing a rebuild?
  14. Smartest guys in the room syndrome. Can’t make the obvious move gotta go with what my model tells me.
  15. Ahhh…..the infamous pivot. The signature move of the Twins. No tap dancing just the quick pivot. They are so adept they can pivot to the right and they can pivot to the left. At this point it’s choreographed into a slick dance move swallowed whole by their fans. Sad truth is that the pivot is only used to avoid onrushing opportunities.
  16. I’m not a fan of the FO. They have done some good things with respect towards analytics and coaching staffs. However the bad decisions have been stacking up faster than the good decisions in almost all facets of player acquisition and development. Mostly due to being so rigid in their belief of their methodologies that aren’t working. They seemingly have no ability to change or make exceptions based on changed circumstances. So going in to their 7th season here is what we have: several rookies with injury histories and an uneven track record combined with aging vets that appear to be on the wrong side of their prime. A mediocre pitching staff that also is riddled by injuries and an obstinate refusal to solve the problem with any free agent signing. To me the kicker is they have depleted the farm system to the point where making any significant trade is in question. You can dive into the details all you want but just take a step back and watch the overall arc of the franchise. It’s steadily downward. If you really want to get cynical you can point out that the only success they had was with the players inherited from the prior FO. Ironically I would say that not signing Correa to that contract would fall into the category of a good decision. Not so with Rodon however. You can argue about all the details as happens on this site but pitching is still the name of the game and they just can’t identify it or develop it and refuse to use free agency to help. Sooo we will likely watch losing baseball with them at the helm unless they catch lightning in a bottle. So yea I guess I’ve been done with them for a while.
  17. Who cares. The alternative is watching the Pohlad family count their money. I want Rodon and the risk more than I want a $120 million payroll.
  18. And we have no idea what his role was. How about the more pertinent information that under his watch the Twins have been miserable at developing homegrown pitching talent. It’s no coincidence that all our best pitchers were obtained via trade.
  19. Does anybody want Falvine overseeing a rebuild? If they start dumping people the FO needs to go with them.
  20. The idea that Falvey oversaw Carrascos growth is pretty laughable at this point. Why does this notion keep getting repeated?
  21. If you think signing Correa was risky then signing Swanson is a real doozy. Some team is gonna rue the day they signed him.
  22. Who cares what he thinks. It’s the market, deal with it or curl up in the fetal position.
  23. If Falvine are that naive / gullible then they should be fired right now. Boras has one job: do the best he can for his clients. If our FO aren’t able to deal with that it ain’t Boras fault.
  24. You are spot on about last year. I’m not saying they are going to do what I suggested rather that is what I would do. I wanted Haniger but they were distracted by Correa. I would take Wil Myers. I know that’s not great but this is the situation we are in.
