  1. Why trade for middling bullpen talent when you can just sign that from FA without giving up prospects?
  2. It has now been over a week since the Mets "deal" was announced. Even allowing for the Christmas holidays, obviously there is no easy solution as far as Boras. Correa and the Mets are concerned. Certainly opens up the market for Correa again to something creative, but the Mets still should be in the driver's seat with the large market, great team on paper, and his friendship with Lindor. Twins would need appear to need to sell remaining at SS and perhaps a shorter, higher AAV contract to bring him back. I would greatly prefer something like 5/$175 to buy his "tenderloin" years of 28-33 and avoid the years of more likely decline in his mid to late 30's.
  3. I would not fire sale Kepler at all. He is still a decent player who may hit for higher average with the shift banned. His defense is rock solid and he is, by all accounts, a good clubhouse teammate. I like a potential OF of Gallo-Buxton-Kepler. Terrific speed and range, and good to great arms. Probably best defensive OF in baseball (when Buxton plays). Gordon as backup is solid as well, and Larnach may surprise too. If they can get good pitching for Max, sure, but not just to trade him for mediocre talent.
  4. It is not just the fractured fibula, it is the plate they put in and the likelihood of arthritis setting in. Heck, it might already be present, and it is not going to get better with time. Still expect the Mets and Correa/Boras to hammer out a deal, but with the passage of time things certainly are getting more interesting....
  5. I was also offline all day and fully expected to read tonight that Correa and the Mets had worked out a new deal. Still expect that to happen, but the longer it is taking, the more it seems other options may materialize.
  6. I, too, would be much happier with a higher AAV, shorter deal. Something like 6/$220M would make more sense--to the extent that is even possible--than they decades plus long deals getting signed and are manifestly silly.
  7. 3? 3! Only 3 Twins need to step up? How about more than a dozen!
  8. Twins will--and should--roll with Miranda at 3B this year. Need to see what his glove and bat bring to the future.
  9. Devers much more likely to go to a team "on the brink" of championship to "put them over the top". The fit for the Twins is virtually non-existent. Only one year, probably can't extend him, Twins don't need a 3B, Twins don't need more left handed bats, etc., etc.
  10. I am sure this post will not age well, but I do find it interesting that the Mets also requested 48 hours to evaluate his medicals and have not, so far, announced the signing officially. Part of this could be the Christmas holiday. I am 97% sure he will sign with the Mets, but a certain part of me would find it amusing if he failed that physical too and came crawling back to the Twins in the end....
  11. You might be able to get Carrasco from the Mets for the proverbial bag of balls at this point. He is costing them a fortune (not that they apparently care), and he is not in their plans.
  12. Perhaps I misread the articles, but it is my understanding that his suspension is lifted, but he cannot get paid for the first 50 games to recoup the monies he collected from the Dodgers while he was initially under investigation. Unclear as to whether he cannot play at all, or simply cannot get paid for the first 50 games.
  13. If Correa was not the poster child for the Astros' cheating he would never have played for the Twins. He may end up re-signing with the Twins, likely for the same reasons. Teams like the Dodgers simply are not going to infuriate their fan base by signing the guy, even if he would improve their team. Yankees may feel the same way. If he were "clean", he would have signed a mega-deal last offseason and we would not be in the discussion.
  14. Mets payroll to eclipse $400M. Owner doesn't care about all the "taxes" that are supposed to control spending. Mets enjoy a rich owner and a massive TV contract in the largest media market. NFL is the perfect model of a balanced league with parity. MLB is the perfect model of an imbalanced league that destroys its fanbase. Twins stuck in the middle of mediocrity for perpetuity until they actually fix these league-wide financial issues. And, yes, you can give me your feel-good stories like how competitive the Rays are, but NO ONE can claim this is an even playing field for each team. NO ONE. The 2 NY teams, the 2 Texas teams, and the California teams should be booted out into their own league and let the rest play in a fair league with a hard cap, hard ceiling, and parity ala the NFL system. Sermon over.
  15. Martin tearing up the AFL so far. Batting .500 with a 1231 OPS and 4 SB's too. Wow. If he breaks out, huge shot in the arm for the Twins O and makes the Berrios trade look very good for the home town squad....
