  1. Ripping off the ChiSox appeals to me. But I don’t like Manny.
  2. Cruz had a few teams chasing him. So saying 29 teams didn't want him is just spin. And even of those who dropped out of the bidding, they may have decided to go a different way for a different reason. You have no legitimate basis to say those teams didn't want him.
  3. Look, Nobody "gives" a guy a shot at the Show. You earn your shot, mostly by paying your dues and showing you are ready for the next level. It has always been that way.
  4. Reminder: This article is about signing the most coveted DH available, a guy who averages 40 HRs a year. You suggested he holds back some minor leaguers and I don't see it, at all.
  5. Nope. Wrong. The teams that spend money usually are deep in the playoffs. Look at Boston, LA, The Yankees.... some years they could be said to waste money, but they try again and again. Those organizations are winners and do what they need to win.
  6. I liked my numbers better. They were 40 Cruz, 30 for Cron and Schoop each.
  7. Sorry, I am with the Chief on this one. Your first paragraph -- my answer: "In what world?" If ownership wanted to have that kind of team, nothing is stopping them. Money in ownership hands --most would agree --- means they ain't investing in success. Nobody is holding Rooker back. He isn't ready yet or he would already be the DH. Your point about Rooker, Lewis and Kiriloff makes no sense. Those guys were never going to play in the show this year anyway. They will be in AA or AAA. Those three weren't in 2019 plans before Nelson was signed. Cruz is on a 1 year contract with an option. Lewis might make it up in September 2020. Rooker, maybe this September. Same Kiri. Cruz doesn't block those guys. But even if they were ready, he should. He has been consistently among the top RBI and HR producers in the past 5 years. This isn't a Morrison one year bullet. Cruz is one of those old guys who knows how to hit and he will teach a lot of young guys how to be better. You miss that completely
  8. The best offer could mean a lot of things. Money, term, option buy out, a cool rental house, for example. Maybe guided walleye fishing trips.... you have a theory about what an at best ambiguous statement means. I, like others, interpreted it as a diss, like he is a paycheck player. You don't dis a guy when he is walking through the door. I think he is and deserves better than that.
  9. Im of a mind to say let the best man win. Cave has potential. Whether he has the job remains to be seen. Maybe go with the hot bat, if one of them gets hot.
  10. Mike, for all you know he likes walleye fishing. You don't get to tell us what his values are or what his reasons are. You owe the man an apology.
  11. There is just 1 spot. Keps will win it. The DH position is filled. 1B is filled too, although Austin may get some starts. Cave is a 4th OFer, unless he beats Keps out. He won't.
  12. You'd rather have a guy that can play defense when this signing brings the guy with the most homers in MLB the past 5 years? Man. Even in a down year (so they say) Cruz hit 37 HRs and drove in 97 RBIs. You don't need such a good defense when you are scoring 5-6 runs a game. Twins added over 100 homers in Cron, Cruz and Schoop. This addition to a team that hit only 160 throughout the whole lineup all last year. Thank you FO. These are really savvy signings.
  13. "It was the mitochondrial channelopathy that would also abruptly end his career as a 28-year-old in 2010." Ted, put the dictionary down, and back away slowly
  14. I disagree with Nick completely. I think he got it backwards. Gibby righted some things mid way through 2017. His numbers since then are far improved and there is enough of a track record to assume he is just a different pitcher now. His recent year and a half stats are what should be looked at, and his numbers from earlier years when he struggled skew his value downward. This may be a case where stats lie and I think this article takes Gibby's current record out of context. 31 is not old for a major league pitcher. A three year extension is warranted. Odo is a #4 starter. He could be extended, sure, but he has not shown the high upside that Gibby has shown. And by 2020 there may be other guys better on the FA market by then. What we need is to have 3 starters locked up, Berrios, Gibby and a third, going into 2020 while we see if Romero, Thorp, Gonsalves and a couple other AAA arms can push their way into the rotation. Plus Gibby is family and does a lot of stuff for the Twins off the field. He took over one promotion after Doze was dealt.
  15. Me too. Plus I just like catchers. Speaking of which, looks like the Twins are standing pat. Guess they think they have A stud on the bench
  16. Here is where you seem to answer your own question... (I know you didn't ask one, but the post raises one). Was Schoop signed to make sure we got "someone" who can rake? I think so. We have a bunch of banjo hitters in the system at middle IF spots. Dozier taught us there is nothing wrong with a second baseman hitting homers. Problem was, we misused Doze as a lead off hitter when he should have been hitting with RUNNERS ON. But I digress. I think this is a good signing. Banjo hitters gotta wait their turn. I like Ehire and all, but 20 - 30 homer potential gets to cut the line.
  17. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do something. Keps tries hard every play. I'd be patient with him.
  18. Why not sign Cutch and shop Keps or Cave? And why not add a stud SP? Its not like we need the league's permission to better the team. Gee I feel like the buzzard in a tree saying to the next buzzard "Patience, my ass, I'm gonna kill something."
  19. "Amateur night at the club?" Watch Kelly break into song..... "To dream, the Impossible Dream, To fight the unbeatable foe...." DRATS,... speaking of which, back to my battle with Country Insurance Stay positive folks, there is a new sheriff in town, and he walks a little like John Wayne
