  1. This FO is awful. They show little direction at all. Signing Gallo was stupid. Signing him to 11 million is more than stupid. He is not needed here. What a waste of a roster space at least for this Twins team. He probably would be a better fit with other teams. He hit around .160 last year and has a lifetime .199 average. His career clutch hitting is around .156. his strikeout rate is over 38%. Just what we need another automatic out in the batting order. People will cheer when he hits the occasional home run but listen to them boo when most of the time he produces nothing and at an alarming rate. The boo birds will be out early this year for Gallo and the Twins.
  2. Another wish list that Twins will probably ignore. They will be hoping for a healthier team and improved performance from the players we have for the most part. When the dust settles, Gallo the choker will be booed out of Minnesota. Twins bullpen will blow another 12 games or so, clutch hitting will again be missing. Also missing will be the continued dumpster diving stiffs Twins always seem to find. Also we will have to stomach another season of terrible baseball. Boring and uninspiring and perhaps 75 wins. Fans will again be blasted for not coming to Target field as attendance will dip to 1.5 million. Put a team on the field that competes and a FO that is serious about producing a regular contender and people will come. Otherwise year 3 of awful baseball masquerading as MLB will bring the same old him drum performance and record.
  3. Gallo signing was perplexing. He's just a minor upgrade from Sano in that Gallo can play a little defense . It won't take long to boo him and his 39% strikeout rate. At 11 million I believe he is our third highest paid player. What a waste of payroll. Did they check his strikeout rate? Did the check his career .199 average? Did they check his .156 clutch hitting average? I'm sure they did. That's how Twins do business. What ifs and hope that's how the Twins operate. Remember this FO recently said, It's the process and not the results that's important.
  4. Nice article Seth! IMO the Twins did everything wrong so far this off season. But probably everything right within their unwavering "plan". Not signing Correa was probably smart. But missing out on other FA is inexcusable but not u usually. That's how they do business. They play boring baseball on the field and off. If 2023 turns out to be year three of another listless team the FO needs to go. Why can't they be a little truthful and transparent with fans? Remember their .ontra is " it's the process, not the results."
  5. Wow. I'm all excited. Not sure about the rest of you lol. Typical Twins garbage signings. I'm sure some may play for Twins at some point this year. Why would we expect anything different?
  6. Nice info on the video. IMO a total waste of resources. By mid season or earlier people will boo him more than they did Sano. Yes he's a decent fielder but an awful offensive player. He may homer once in a while but not worth 11 mil. They way over spent. I believe this makes him the third highest paid Twin at this point behind Buxton and Gray. Another typical, albeit strange move by Falvey. He really needs to go.
  7. Good comments all. The FO has played us again. Many fans are gullible ( yes me included) that things may be changing. Yes they are for the worse. This FO has messed up a lot of things. Not signing Correa was a wise prudent decision. But letting good mid tier free agents sign with other teams while waiting on Correa is a crucial mistake. But they have done this a lot. Wait until most of the quality free agents sign elsewhere and bemoan the fact there aren't too many left to choose from is classic Twins. Yes we are a gullible lot us Twins fans. Oh yes we did sign Joey Gallo to a one year 11 mill contract. He with the .199 career average and a strikeout rate higher than Sano. Oh please. What a messed up organization.
  8. I also tend to avoid articles submitted by Sherry. I should have avoided it too. What a line of garbage it's filled with plus many inaccuracies. About the only thing I agree with is being glad twins didn't sign Correa. IMO this FO is or should be on a very short string. They have done a couple of good things I will grant you. But I believe they have almost ruined this franchise. The team is boring, has no identity, plays very poor baseball. Signing Joey Gallo, yes he of the 199 career average type to a one year contract of 11 million is ludicrous.
  9. Wow did the Twins way over pay for Gallo. A career .199 hitter gets 11 million for one season? His strikeout rate is slightly higher than Sano. You think people were being Sano? Wait until they see Gallo. Last year's strike out rate over 39% yes a little higher than our friend Sano. I sure hope I'm proven wrong but it sure looks like one of the dumbest signings this FO has ever done. Way overpay. just fits in with the low level signings the Twins are noted for.
  10. Loved the article. Well done. I never liked the Correa signing in the first place. We all need he would only be here one year. Then as a baseball community he and Boras played us. That was predictable as well. What is frustrating is that the Twins let themselves be played. Yes I'm not concerned with not signing Correa. He was a list cause since day one. I am concerned with this FO again messing around and waiting until too late to sign people we need for other positions. This has been their method of operation since they came on board. What we have now is another year of boring, uninspired, and undisciplined baseball to look forward to. Not because we didn't sign Correa but that at this point haven't signed any meaningful players to fill all the holes on this team.
  11. It really has been a typical Twins off season thus far. They not only didn't come close to signing Correa ( which actually may be good) they've let other mid tier free agents get picked up by other teams. I'm sure it was planned out. Offer Correa a deal you knew he wouldn't take so you can give a positive pr spin on how hard you tried. Also let other free agents that are affordable go to other teams so there's not a lot left. That way you can do some bargain basement shopping for the washed up, has been, and oft injured players you find while dumpster diving. All in all so far I would say everything has gone about has become expected with the Twins.
  12. This team needs a house cleaning and not because of not signing Correa.
  13. In 2021 fans were saying that 2022 was a bridge year and 2023 we should be all in. What happened? Well the team was competitive in a bad division until the last month or so. Then injuries and management over estimating player development. Overhyping young players that have not shown that much. The result has been terrible baseball the past two years. Now some people are saying we are in a soft rebuild. 2023 looks bleak as again the team is relying on what ifs, lofty projections, rookies, and prospects. Hype and hope. That's what the Twins sell. That's what a lot of fans eat up. If they don't improve the next year or two a new direction is needed in FO and on field management.
  14. Great article. I agree with your thoughts. But this isn't unusual for the Twins. Wait until late to sign a free agent after the good ones are gone. Then low ball offers like Correa and tell people how hard they tried and what a great offer they made. Probably just public relations ploy. What bothers me most is letting other free agents sign elsewhere and the Twins left holding the bag again. It further tells me that if they signed Correa there would not have been much flexible payroll dollars left. Otherwise they should have signed some players while awaiting his decision. I'm glad we didn't sign him! We would have been a mediocre team with no payroll to pursue other players. No we will just be our normal mediocre team without busting the bank.
  15. Carlos Correa was with the Twins at the start of the season and played all year with the Twins. With that in mind, the Twins finished with their lowest non pandemic years attendance in Target Field history. Yes that was with the great Correa here. It could be argued that if he wasn't here the attendance wouldn't even been as high as it was. But he played in front of a lot of crowds less than 18,000. The Twins the past two years in particular have been awful. They play boring, mistake laden, baseball. They are often listless and, like their manager, have an I don't care attitude. There's perhaps several reasons people don't go to games. I guess that's for another topic. But playing sound fundamental baseball with players that have not been found in baseballs bargain basement, would be a step in the right direction.
  16. Great article Nick. I think most of us new from the moment that Correa signed his Twins contract that he would opt out. We also new there was no way he was coming back. Also from that moment the Twins, fans, media, etc were being played by Correa and his agent Scott Boras. The fact that our FO played into it while trying to placate fans and make it appear they were making a serious attempt to sign his is borderline disgraceful. What is most bothersome to me is that several affordable pitchers were signed by other teams during this process. Since this current FO regimen has been in Minnesota it's been very difficult to figure out what they are doing as each year seems to be thrown together in such a haphazard way. I would expect more of them.
  17. I agree with an earlier poster who said he saw this coming some 300 some days ago. We all did. No not the 13 year deal but knowing from day one that Correa was only here for the one year. Make no mistake about it. We were all used by Correa and his camp from day one. This was never about the Twins, it was about Correa using the team, and fans for his own benefit. It worked perfectly for him. He played the system well. Now the Twins can hopefully work on bettering the overall team. Back to normal. The Twins did sign two washed up pitchers to minor league contracts this week. Yes, back to normal.
  18. You say Buxton did twins a favor by signing a 100 million contract. I think he did a great job for himself. Not bad 15 mill per year for a part time player. He has done well for himself. I believe, at least as of this writing, he is the highest paid Twin. Not bad for a guy that hardly ever plays. In eight seasons he had a full season just once. In 2017 he played in 140 games. The other seven years he's played in total less than half. Again he should consider himself fortunate. I believe he only played 92 of 162 games last year. I'd love to see him play a full season but it's not likely to happen. We see glimpses of excellence then stretches where he plays very poorly. Before we deem this a team friendly deal, let's see him play full time for a few seasons and produce.
  19. Twins need pitching and catching. Everyone mentions Winder, Ober, Richardson, etal like they are shoo ins. The have not proven much of anything yet IMO. With all the negative stats and projected future results, why would anyone want Arraez? I like him. You don't trade a batting champion without getting something good and someone who can help immediately. IMO the Twins FO has not the greatest track record on trades. Be careful. They are all intent on signing Correa. But why? They will not have a very good team around him. Makes no sense to spend that kind of money, albeit a superstar, on one player with so many holes to fill.
  20. Like always the Twins wait until the last minute to do little or nothing. I'm guessing Twins do not sign Rodon. They do not sign Correa. They do not sign Vazquez. They will start searching the dumpsters again for upgrades. We should not sign Correa especially for all that money and years and if it has ANY opt out clauses tell him NO. We need a commitment. If FO goes to all of that and somehow signs Correa with multiple opt outs the FO should be fired.
  21. Interesting article. Perhaps since you have all the answers, you should be the GM. But this current FO is failing. Even before the team folded in September with all the injuries, the play very boring and undisciplined baseball. The team has no identity and no plan. If they do posses a plan they are keeping it to themselves and not generating much excitement so far. They left the winter meetings having acquired no one of significance. This is not really unexpected since they've done it for years. In the end the Twins may sign some cheap retreads and then try to tell the fans they tried hard. Same old same old. I'm not talking about Correa. Spending that much money on one player with so many holes in the team is simply foolhearty. While other teams take names off the board the twins as usual sit and moan about how much money the free agents are getting. Let's move on from Correa, add some relief pitching, a starter or two, a catcher etc. The central is there for the taking.
  22. People keep saying sign Correa to entice fans to ballpark. Where were they last year? He was with the team all of last year but yet they had their lowest, non covid years, attendance in Target Field history. Maybe without him attendance would have been much lower, who knows? Winning brings fans more than anything. Signing Correa and doing nothing else except relying on oft injured and many unproven over hyped players is a recipe for disaster.
  23. I am totally against signing Correa. What a waste of money. And if they have to give him multiple opt outs, I show him the door immediately. If you are going to commit a 9 figure offer the least the player can do is show a commitment to stay. Opt outs only help the player and definitely prove he's only concerned about himself. What kind of teammate is that?
  24. Like normal, the Twins wait to sign any free agents while other teams gobble them up. This has been their MO for years and has been double downed on by the current FO. No surprises so far this off season. What's frustrating is the team keeps intimating their enthusiasm for certain free agents but hardly ever sign one of significance. And if they do, they just let.us all hanging while we wait for an assumed follow move to back up the free agent signing. And it never comes. Forget about Correa. He alone is not going to get us into the playoffs. We have a lot of holes to fill. The FO has a lot of praying to do. Praying that the injured players come back AND perform. That the young players prove they are as good as all the Twins hype gives them. This FO needs to have a whole team. Not just a mediocre one with an over paid shortstop as their only addition this winter.
