  1. When looking hindsight you still have to keep a look at current. May has been out most of the year with a triceps strain. Little os out with an oblique strain and Covid. If you are going by any of the former Twins best years, it would be a no brainer. If only every trade worked out perfectly. If Alcala had not been injured and maintained his current ERA things would be a lot different. I wouldn’t expect him to, but looking for the best seems to be the rule on this one, so I will use it
  2. Baseball numbers and what they mean. Twins catchers are poor at throwing out runners yet in a league that is more and more driven by data the Twins ate low in giving up stolen bases. There is passed ball data, but no data on blocked balls. The Twins are lower on the list for WP. The difference between the two stats is someone’s judgement. Passed balls also can happen when you are trying to hard to pitch frame. Hitting is more clearly defined
  3. Saves, holds, and blown saves are really not indicative of much in regards to the bullpen. The team has to have a lead for any of them. Without a decent rotation the counting stats are less likely to happen. If the offense clicked there are no counting stats. If the offense isn’t there the defense could let in a run, now you have a blown save
  4. It is a popularity contest. Biggest fan base wins. It is hard ti get too upset about the lack of success in a popularity contest as those are the parameters agreed upon
  5. When examining the past it is pointless to look at the trades made by previous administrations. They are no longer here, the current group operates differently
  6. They did not seem to want to pay Rogers so for them to want to keep Duran for another 4-5 years he would have to show more than Rogers.
  7. Neither Kepler nor Polanco will be with the team long enough for them to be considered core players going forwards. They will hit the big 30 and the analytics say decline, they will be gone like Rosario. Lewis with an injury history may be hard to consider core. Great when he plays, but there is when he doesn’t play. Same for Buxton. A super utility player is really the only core player the team has until the others show they can sustain a level of play
  8. Balazovic is the only one that has played in the futures game who did not make it to the majors. He just needs some more time
  9. The difficulty in bringing pitchers from outside the organization can be found by perusing the rosters of teams that are likely out of the playoffs, The prearb relievers are going to cost an arm and a bat. Some of the rental type relievers who are having good years have already been cycled trough here. There is a reason why some of these teams are that bad. Lots of reasons. Bullpens are one of them. Does a reliever with an ERA of between 3.5 and 4 really move the needle that far. They also have blown many games along the way
  10. Depends on what you have to replace the player with. Last year’s tryouts for the bullpen were relatively short. Minor league players get to play until the draftee signs. The end of the season starts a merry go round of movement Left handed pitchers get a chance somewhere until their arm falls off
  11. Everything has a cost. The question becomes would you rather have a Winder or one of these pitchers. It is not necessarily Winder but the next capable prospect or two.
  12. Bednar would be likely to cost as much a Kimbrel did before he became a White Sox. Effross wouldn’t be too far behind on that price tag. Mantiply a bit further back. I would doubt the FO would spend that kind of capital unless there were prospects that the other team loved that the FO wasn’t that enamored with. If either were with Oakland or Miami it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall. Detroit will trade Fulmer to anyone. They are not going anywhere this year, he is a free agent afterwards. Divisional rivalries do not matter. This FO might be reluctant to give Detroit a good prospect. Seeing someone for a few years on a rental wouldn’t be fun. Then again, it is Detroit. I am sure when Fulmer is traded the people here will be more than correct with the “we could have matched that garbage” That leaves Bass
  13. HR/9 is down .39 from 2019, K/9 is slightly down. I don’t think the analytics department would miss that trend. The first few drafts under Sean Johnson as directed by Falvey and or Levine they went for bat over glove. It did not work. If this deadened ball continues, they need to have defense. I think they realized that. They moved Polanco. They have a couple of weak fielding hitters now. Arraez and Miranda are not going anywhere Perhaps the old school draft up the middle and move them out if you have to was the correct way to do the draft.
  14. Unluckily there is not a Joe Mauser or Buster Posey in this draft, We’ll, edit and laugh https://throughthefencebaseball.com/2022-mlb-mock-draft-5-0-brooks-lee-druw-jones/
  15. The problem is the Twins have no other pitcher in the minors as talented as he is, Not even close. Thor berg was DFA the other day so he will go away
  16. There is almost no such thing as an innings eating pitcher anymore. Manaea and Wheeler might be the leaders in IP per game. I can’t find many who even average 6. Not Castillo or Montas
  17. A 90 mph fastball was considered fas back then. Things change
  18. There is a key factor missing. Wistler, Adams, Riley, Garza, Chargois, Bard all have something in common There also seems to be a lot of their relievers on the 50 day do.
  19. I thought the first post seemed like an odd post for your usual posting. Even after a decade of reading your posts they couldn’t tell you were playing them. Nicely done
  20. Winder 6 starts, Sands 3. It is not if they will be needed as starters but when. So what the proposal is would be called rob Peter to pay Paul. Good for the moment but maybe not the short term
  21. What do do with Sano becomes evident with his time in rehab. I would imagine it is a little hard to hit for power on one leg. Many here do not seem to grasp the concept that you need to be at 100% as baseball isn’t what it used to be The star burned brightly a decade ago. Now it is but a child’s toy thrown in the box marked Goodwill. The new toys are shinier
  22. Duffey is fixed? The use of Pagan despite the results says not
  23. Considering the recent content here I would say the generality of the new girl is prettier to be true. My takeaway from the article is that a player probably needs a healthy wrist yo hit effectively
