  1. It didn't look like a very good slide, did it? Though it's hard to second guess the players on exactly which type of slide to do when they have a split second to make the decision. Oh well.
  2. This could just be homer bias, and I clearly don't have the fortitude to watch a replay ten times like Riverbrian on a routine fly ball to Robbie Grossman, but... it reeeeeally seemed like he had his foot blocking the plate well before he got that ball.
  3. Man, you gotta get more than that from bases loaded with no outs. I kind of agree with the above posters about the lack of a challenge. What else do you think you are going to use it for that'll be closer than that?
  4. I know I'm getting into but-Sano-is-athletic territory here, but I agree. Vargas is a very big man, but for a very big man, he's not bad at defense. You can't expect him to move around like a shortstop, but he generally does what needs to be done. Mauer on the other hand is flat out good at first base.
  5. Doesn't the catcher have to move out of the way of the plate? Did he? What's the ruling from people who know the rules better than I do?
  6. Dozier poking the ball through the right side of the infield again. Beating that shift.
  7. I don't dislike Vargas, so I hope this isn't taken as a knock on him. But the difference between Mauer's defense at first and Vargas's is day and night. I know there's not much of a positional adjustment for 1B according to WAR and the like, but Mauer has been very, very impressive over there.
  8. That's about as big a turn as you'll ever see from second base.
  9. I love how confused Dick Bremer has been literally every time he's said Garrett Cooper's name. "And ...Garrett ...uh, Cooper, at first base."
  10. 6'7", I read. He'd look normal if Alex Meyer were pitching to him. Or, if we're thinking in other dimensions, if Bartolo Colon were pitching to him.
  11. Garrett Cooper is making his debut today and playing first base. I am doing all in my power to be positive about this, even though I grew up with a couple of his older brothers, and they're kinda dickbags. I'll just keep reminding myself it's not his fault.
  12. That's kind of how I read your post. Addison Russell was traded in the example transaction, and he was a top 10 prospect in all of baseball, at an up the middle position, in the high minors. I'm not saying we get the next Addison Russell, I'm just saying that if the guy is a very quality guy who's mostly ready to go, who cares too much if he's not a pitcher? If you end up with two guys like Nick Gordon, why don't you flip one in the offseason for the pitcher that you like? It's a damn good currency to have if you're on the pitching market.
  13. This is the key to the whole article. Personally, I find it less than likely that they make it through the Astros, Yankees, and Dodgers with a winning record.
  14. Do we know what's wrong with the Duff Man? I was pretty high on him coming into the year, but he has not rewarded my confidence. Any reason to think this is an anomaly?
  15. Hey! He's not that old! For someone who is in the hall of fame ....what's that? Oh.
  16. If there's one thing I don't like it's that he definitely gets wordy. But he does know what he's talking about, and some of the technical stuff is pretty interesting.
